Here is a question. Is Holder better than Stokes?
he has done better with the bat than holder but their bowling stats is pretty similar
In reply to powen001
Check the rankings.
In reply to velo
Drop Holder twice an inning and see how his stats look then.
Thee most overrated cricketer in the Univ., STOKES.
Holder better
Stokes have English hype backing him.
In reply to natty_forever
Beg to disagree re Stokes.
Stokes is a match winner..Holder isnt in the league..it is between stokes and shakib..no one else comes close..
In reply to pooranian Repeat it for the hard of hearing.
In reply to powen001
How do they compare against common opponents??
In reply to powen001
Stokes averages 36 with the bat and 32 with the ball. 36-32 = 4
Holder averages 32 with the bat and 26 with the ball. 32-26 = 6
Holder is better.
In reply to mikesivaAverages alone do not tell the entire story.
In reply to LBW375
Stokes have English hype backing him.
The pendulum swings...
But Holder is ahead in my assessment too...
and yes I am aware of the Stats
In reply to voiceofreason
indeed...someone PMed me and asked if I was including " Character"
Right now I would go with Stokes in batting and Holder in bowling. They are both very safe catching but Stokes is better moving in the outfield.
In reply to StumpCam
You upping the thing...
didnt think about this..but you know this will then invite CONTEXT
Stokes match winning almost Lara Esque innings last year stands out...
Holders 200 does...but different contexts
Test cricket alone or all formats?
If is test cricket alone then Jason is miles ahead in the bowling department.. batting I'll give the edge to Stokes.
If its all formats.. Stokes is the better allrounder.
In reply to powen001
Holders 200 was mostly in a period when the match was already won!
I would say that Stokes is the better batsman and Holder the better bowler overall!
Holder needs proper conditions to thrive..Stokes is a aggressive bowler who can bowl at 90mph..he can up the intensity in his game as per situation..Holder isnt mercurial enough
In reply to pooranian
Pariahman yuh don't have to bowl at 90 to be good. E.g. Anderson Broad and Holder
In reply to anthonyp
I meant Tests...
Campbell gone this time I think
In reply to anthonyp
I meant Tests.
But in all formats...STOKES has that X factor working for him in truth
In reply to FuzzyWuzzy
I just wanted to press on the fact that Stokes doesn't depend on the conditions when bowling.
In reply to StumpCam
I would say that Stokes is the better batsman and Holder the better bowler overall!
No argument from me...
I believe this conversation will continue as long as these lads are out there.
I was surprised how similar that STATS have them...and yet they both yank almost contrary emotions and sentiments out of the fans.
Holder the Gent...Stokes the Brawler...
Yes both receive a fair amount of critique good and bad too.
I am happy they are both CAPTAINING this match too..helps to add another column for assessment.
WHO is the better Captain?
Listening to Holder now..
brutally aware of his own limitations...
A perfect Gentleman
In reply to powen001
Holder is a better bowling allrounder.
If Holder spent half his career bowling in Englnd, his stats would have even been better. Stokes has the more reliable batting technique. Over the last two years, Jason has upped his game.
Stokes is the better bat, Holder the better bowler. If your batting is already strong, you'll prefer Holder in your team. A strong bowling and a weaker batting, you may rather Stokes.
In reply to pooranian
Shakib ever win any tests against major oposition OUTSIDE if bangladesh? Where they doctor the pitches to make their spinners unplayable at home and are promptly embarrassed when away with 3 and four day long test matches which cause persons to comment on whether they belong at the highest level.......shakib......must be joking
In reply to jen
Holder attended the same school as Powen. With one big difference - Holder went when it was Co-Ed.
In reply to powen001
Here is another question..
Is Holder in the top 5 test allrounders to play for West Indies?
In reply to Jumpstart
He plays for Bangladesh. But his away performance in LOI has been pretty good..Not sure about test bowling outside BD...Dont think it is that bad..Him,Mushfiqur and Mahmadullah form their core batting and bowls 10 overs usually.Holder is neither the strike bowler nor a dependable batsman..I really dont see him in the league of Stokes or Shakib..Holder is in the league of Angelo Matthews,Hardik Pandya..A step below Shakib and Stokes..Looks like we are getting carried away by his 6-fer in this innings...
In reply to voiceofreason
Not surprised. But you need not beg.
In reply to powen001 ... will not make runs against us. Not even when given 2 life.
In reply to pooranian
Looks like you fail to see even when evidence staring you in the face. Watch what a real all-rounder does to the opposition.
In reply to powen001
Why ask that question: Holder is the #1 All rounder..
In reply to natty_forever
No need to waste time with that chap
None of them on his list averaged close to 45 with the bat and about 14 with the ball in the last two years.. that poster living in dreamland
In reply to Brundog
Is like them have COVID.
In reply to Brundog
Its precisely why I asked it.
Holder gets more respect from the outsiders AND the ICC than the insiders ( if this MB is a benchmark).
Both of these men ALWAYS get compared-
Its funny how they are so different YET so similar.
In reply to anthonyp
big grin
You ask good questions.
.... I am going to have to go look and then most importantly.. CONTEXTUALIZE - the era- the opposition..the world rankings...
I suspect Holder has already exceeded expectations...as brief and as few TEST matches he has played.
In reply to anthonyp
At the end of this TEST SERIES...not match...
Can we say who is the BETTER CAPTAIN between them?
In reply to powen001
There has be a reason as why Holder is the #1 allrounder... he's. better
Have to give the Trophy to Holder.
In reply to voiceofreason
You and poopoo-ranian could tell us the whole story and this match winner-ship by Stokes even though it is a team sport.
Stoke played 64 test matches to Holder 41 test matches.
@ 41 test matches by both men Stokes is ahead in the batting by three test centuries and 4 fifties.
@41 matches in the bowling department Holder is ahead across the board. In wickets, economy rate, and on bowling average.
In reply to powen001
Seeing that Stokes is captain for only this match you cant judge them by captaincy
In reply to MasterP
Well...
I am trying a thing...
The whole head to head to get viewership was sold as ALL ROUNDER Captains Battle.
Even if for ONE match.
ROOT has to quarantine...and bond with his baby
In reply to Cricket_101
fair enough...
But you see...
WE in the Caribbean especially KEEP touting that Stokes is better than Holder...and some even say that Holder was LUCKY to get a pick.
its only DAY 2 is true...but the comparisons persist...world wide ...but WE in the W.I keep putting Holder down.
I have quite a few Bajans that cant wait to cuss MASON for being hard on Jason...all now.
the contradictions continue...
Huh?
In reply to powen001
It is too early to compare the two.
I am not a fan of Jason in the two faster formats, he bowls a boundary ball most overs, and his batting style in the two formats, has not develop.
He has the ability to be great, if he take his batting more serious.
In reply to openning
fair enough but thats why i said Test matches.
In reply to powen001
If I were in Jason's camp, I would advise him to give up the captaincy, work on his game, because he leaving a lot of money on the table.
He has the ability to be a sort after player, just like Gayle, Bigb and others.
In reply to openning
mmm... while his stocks certainly rose today...
He is a natural always willing to learn kind of leader.
SO Not yet Sah!
let him Build his BRAND with the Boost of Prestige that Captaincy Brings.
Funny..as much as I like Gayle..I actually see Holders Mold as closer to Worrell and Lloyd.
so let him marinate in this role first please...the faster more lucrative stuff tends to take the shine off of him.
In reply to powen001
We have always been that way...not appreciating our talents.
In reply to powen001
How can anyone with a reasonable cognition rebuke the world #1 allrounder. But then again the board is overloaded with insularity.
In reply to Cricket_101
Kindly point me to this overload. Other than the starter of the thread and VOR thinks otherwise.
Jason HOLDER...
HOLDS the number one position
AND He out Captains- Stokes!!
PLUS in the Captain vs Captain for each others wicket.
JASON 2
Stokes 1
Jason wins again.
Congratulations gents..
