Schmiedlova beat Venus at four and four.
Nishikori beat Evans in five sets.

Watching - Halep looks great
In reply to Chrissy
Wawrinka beat Murray in straight sets.
Gauff beat Konta in straight sets.
A bad day for the Brits.
In reply to mikesiva
Good day for Coco
In reply to Chrissy
Nishioka beat Felix AA in straight sets.
It's a tale of two sets for Serena, who beat Ahn 7-6,6-0 in her first round match.
Djokovic beat Ymer in straight sets.
Ferro beat Watson in straight sets. Brexit complete.
In reply to mikesiva
Watching Simon and Shapovalov now - Simon is melting down -
Medvedev got trounced by a 63 ranked player from Hungary...
In reply to hotarobin
Azarenka gone!
Schmiedlova with another scalp.
In reply to mikesiva
Unbelievable - go Serena
In reply to Chrissy
You know she's done right?
In reply to mikesiva
not surprised...I said from the last major that the two finalist will not make it to the final or even the semis of the French...at least on the women's side....
In reply to hotarobin
Osaka doesn't like the clay anyway.
Zverev made hard work of that second round match.
In reply to mikesiva
Zverev makes every match harder than necessary
In reply to Chrissy
Gauff out.
Too many double faults.
Thiem is looking more and more efficient as a player....at least from the highlights I saw...I hope that he can do well here as his best chance is really is the French as he is capable of beating the top three on his day...
In reply to hotarobin
Wow! Halep demolished Anisimova.
Wawrinka out! Thiem will be pleased.
In reply to mikesiva
Who is this 22 year old German qualifier Daniel Altmaier? He just dismissed Berrettini in three straight...and he looked great doing it....he faces Carreno Busta next...if he gets past him then that would be impressive indeed...
Thiem will definitely be happy that Wawrinka is out and the wild card Gaston who beat Wawrinka looked decent enough but should lose to Thiem in three straight...
What will the semis look like for the men?
Semi #1 = Joka vs Tsitsipas
Semi #2 = Thiem vs Nadal
which would be the top 3 seeded players and the 5th seed so it's an easy call...I would like to see a couple of upsets but it's unlikely...
In reply to hotarobin
Easier to predict than the women's.
Ostapenko missed an opportunity to reach the second week. She's out.
Kvitova marches on. Muguruza self destructed against Collins.
Maybe
Halep vs Svitolina
Kvitova vs Collins
In reply to mikesiva
me fraid touch de women....dem too finiky....
but if I were forced to I would replace Collins with Kenin and bet on Garcia to upset Svitolina and possibly Badosa to upset Kvitova...but absolutely anything can happen in the women's draw....
In reply to hotarobin
I prefer to say the women's draw is always more interesting. Anything can happen. Unlike the men, where you can always be sure of two-three of the semi-finalists before the tournament starts.
Halep struggling against Swiatek.
In reply to mikesiva
Swiatek got game! Very impressive!
In reply to StumpCam
Sweetest hitter of a tennis ball I have seen in a while.
Sweet Swiatek Going to take some special player to take this Slam out of her hand.
Watch that Italian Trevisan. Shes like one of those bugs that you think you have killed but keeps popping up again. Shes got some spirit. She makes a lot of errors, but boy she keeps getting herself back in the game.
In reply to Casper
She plays like a man! Swiatek, that is!
Not only is she sweet, she is also very Polished!
Yea, Polish and Polished.
I am always impressed by these Eastern and Northern Europeans who so easily speak three or more foreign languages in addition to their native tongue..
Well, it will be Trevisan vs Swiatek.. That will be one to watch.
Now, Nadal will have his first real challenge of this Slam, going against the young American Korda.
And watch for a upset when Zverev comes up against the The Sinner
In reply to Casper
Challenge? It's 6-1; 6-1 so far.
How did Halep lose dat so badly to the 19 year old Swiatek? Dat was a rhatid upset 6-1; 6-2.
In reply to Chrissy
But Halep is like that though...sometimes she just doesn't show up....that why me fraid de women's draw...it's very difficult to call in the best of times...
You get some upsets on the men's side but generally the final is between the top seeds...that being said, I wouldn't mind seeing a few upsets on the men's side for this French...
In reply to hotarobin
Not me - Rafa Rafa Rafa but Thiem is the most improving player now!
In reply to Chrissy
Yes barring a major upset it looks like those two will meet in the semis...Go Thiem!
In reply to Casper
Upset!
Zverev beaten in four!
In reply to Casper
good call, Sinner knocks out Zverev but Nadal wasn't at all challenged by Korda...
In reply to mikesiva
it's a tiny upset...this is Zverev we talking bout...
In reply to hotarobin
Korda was in awe of playing on the same court as his tennis hero. He must have been pinching himself the whole match.
At least, he won something today - he got Nadal to personally sign his T-Shirt.
As for The Sinner, he's one to watch.
In reply to Chrissy
Chrissy, Korda froze in front of his hero, but hold onto your seat, because The Sinner will be no push over when he plays Nadal.
I have been watching this Swiatek the whole week. This girl gets her racket on everything and strikes the ball beautifully into the corners.
If she were a cricketer he would have been recognized as one of the classical stylists. But watch this Trevisan, she's a puncher and will not lay down and play dead to Swiatek. That should be a great match.
Kenin got this...
In reply to Casper
She sure looks promising.
So does this lil French boy Gaston. Will Thiem blow dis one?
To the 5th
A star is born - style looks like a lil Rafa. Gwan Hugo - you will win slams
truth be told I am missing all of this tennis...I am just calling it by following online....it sucks that ESPN not carrying the French...
The app I have keeps mixing up the damn draw and confusing me...
Can't believe that Thiem let that get to 5 sets....he may have a tough time against short man Diego since he spent so much energy...
In reply to Chrissy
I have learned to hold off on those pronouncements until I see a similar performance in at least two more tournaments...nuff player dem mek me look foolishy foolishy
In reply to hotarobin
I didn't watch any of the US Open because here in the UK it was on Amazon Prime which I am boycotting.
The French however is on Eurosport.
Kvitova cruising. Into the the quarter finals.
Kvitova dismissed Zhang (expected)
Siegemund defeated Badosa (not expected)
Ferro up a set on Kenin (not expected but early days still)
Joka dismissed Khachanov (expected)
Rublev defeated Fucsovics (expected)
Tsitsipas dismissed Dimitrov (expected)
In reply to hotarobin
Kenin fought back to beat Ferro in three sets.
Collins had to dig deep to get past Jabeur.
Svitolina out! She can now be reunited with boyfriend Monfils.
Podoroska into the semis. Who picked that?
In reply to mikesiva
Diego is matching Thiem thus far....
This tournament feel like a new era is beginning with many good new players emerging.
In reply to dayne
on which side? mens? or women? Cause Joka and Nadal still beating the crap outta these fellas when it matters... old man Federer still gets the better of these young upstarts often...when they shut those three out of the trophies then we can say that we are in a new era but that is far from the case...
Go Thiem!! das all
In reply to hotarobin
Dis een done yet -tiebreaker
Epic match dis
In reply to hotarobin
Thiem ran out of steam.
In reply to mikesiva
Shortsman is a threat. Watch him carefully.
Agree Thiem ran out of steam
In reply to mikesiva
Don't cry for me Argentina - easily the best day ever for their tennis.
Too many setters for Thiem
Cha I am gutted. I always knew that Diego was going to be a handful but I thought Thiem was going to overcome.
For a short man Diego has some incredible reach...
He upset Nadal in the previous tournament but Nadal wins when it matters...
The key is to be ultra efficient in these majors...5 setter after 5 setter takes a toll, very few can be effective after 5 setter matches...
In reply to hotarobin
It didnt matter in Rome? A tournament that Nadal had won 9 times previously.
With 2 days rest before his next match, Schwartzman will be just fine.
His reward is to play Djoker. Now that Thiem is out, I dont see anyone in this tournament capable of beating Djoker here
In reply to Chrissy
Diego Schwartzman, el Dogo Argentino, proves, yet again, that hes no walk over. Hes very much in the mix for this title.
In reply to imusic
no it doesn't matter to Nadal in the context of the major...I believe that Thiem also beat Nadal in a the same tournament before the Fremch last year and Nadal got the better of him in the French Open final...
This is probably the first time that i am hearing someone favor Joka over Nadal in the French...interesting perspective...but anything can happen...Nadal still has to make Sinner repent...
Tsitsipas has been quietly advancing...let's see if there are more surprises to be had..
In reply to hotarobin
Dis young Italian Sinner can play. Go Rafa! Tiebreaker
Gwan Rafa!
In reply to Chrissy
he hits the ball with some sweet smooth power...
In reply to hotarobin
2-0 fi Rafa
In reply to Chrissy
Sinner has to atone for his sins....he nah ready yet...
Sinner hits the ball very well, on both sides too. He would give Rafa all he can handle on a hard court.
In reply to JohnBull
he has not been able to adjust to the leftie opponent...balls that he would hit as winners to right handers Nadal is returning so he is a bit shell shocked and therefore loses his positioning...
He needs to play against a lot more lefties before he can be a threat to Nadal...
In reply to JohnBull
Stewwwwwwwwwps - Rafa! Rafa! Rafa! - 100 wins at RG!
In reply to hotarobin
My fren ...if yuh planning to apply for a tennis analyst job, don't.
In reply to hotarobin
The kid turned 19 August 1. He and Denis and Felix will fight it out soon.
In reply to Chrissy
That might be his last at this years tournament
In reply to JohnBull
In reply to hotarobin
Kvitova advanced to the semis.
Kenin beat Collins in three sets to reach the last four.
I got Kvitova right. You got Kenin right.
In reply to mikesiva
cock fight between Rublev and Tsitsipas....I got Tsitsipas to be a future #1 but he is not quite ready to claim it yet...
he acts like a psyco though...not Trump's version...but he does talk to himself alot and it looks like he answers back..
Fuzzy yuh tink yuh bwoy tweaked sinting a few minutes ago. Just broken.
In reply to Chrissy
interesting development...but me thinks Joka is just too accurate for Carreno to pull this off...
In reply to hotarobin
First set to CB
In reply to Chrissy
he should still win but CB in his head a bit...
Joka serving for the 3rd set
In reply to hotarobin
Didnt somebody not tell you to stick to your day job? Leff tennis analysis out
I wonder if Djoka invented his injury to motivate himself for this match?
Didnt expect the beat down that Rublev got from Tsitsipas today. Rublev is one of the hottest players on tour and got beat like a bad step chile. Not that Im surprised Tsitsipas won. Just the ease with which he won against Rublev was surprising.
Rublev looked in total command in the first set yet somehow lost it. After that, it was all downhill.
Mens Finals......I guess it will be Djoka vs Nadal with Nadal taking a beating.
Womens Finals....nobody is playing better than Swiatek in this tournament. I believe it will be her and Kenin in the final.
I dont like Kenin. She strikes me as a spoilt brat. But she is dangerous and has a lot of fire.
Swiatek for the win.
In reply to FuzzyWuzzy
go take the fuzz out of your wuzz arite...
In reply to imusic
you are guilty of betting with your heart...it happens
but how can you look at the history and the curent form of Nadal and stay that he will "take a beating"??
you do realize that Joka beat Nadal at the French only once ever and it was when Nadal had major knee injuries in 2015? (2015 was a terrible year for Nadal - Joka never even celebrated the win)
Joka's lone title came when Nadal withdrew from the 2016 French with a hand injury and Joka ended up defeating Andy Murray...no better record than Federer when Nadal lost to a Robin Soderling in the fourth round then Soderling, in turn, lost to Fed in the final..
I am no Nadal fan but I will go on file to say that Joka cannot beat Nadal barring some unprecedented event...
just saw Swiatek play.....damn she has a weighty shot and the angles...she looks very dangerous and doesn't seem nervous in the least...if she shows up for the final it will be a good final...
Swiatek vs Kenin for the final...
Swiatek won the only meeting between the two back when they were juniors...
I had Kenin for the title but after seeing Swiatek I am not so sure...I'll just try to enjoy the match...hopefully they are both healthy and not too tight...
In reply to hotarobin
19 v 21 - the youngsters are coming through. Dem lucky
In reply to Chrissy
Nadal beat Diego Shortman in straight sets.
Easy peasy.
In reply to mikesiva
Sweet fi days
In reply to Chrissy
Yes. Another Finals....
In reply to Chrissy
Aren't you happy eh
In reply to Trinidave
more like another major title...he will tie Fed....sigh
goodness though Joka can return like a magician...
In reply to hotarobin
Don't get frightened
Joka looks like he's bored...
In reply to hotarobin
Arguably the greatest return of serve ever in the game.
Only Agassi and Edberg come close as returners.
Into a fourth set.
In reply to mikesiva
and that does some serious damage to his opponents mental approach because they are forced to take more risks...ya just don't get free points like that...and it's like the dealier the serve the more dangerous the return from Joka...truly impressive
In reply to hotarobin
Tsitsipas takes the fourth set.
Two sets all.
Into a final set.
2-2 - and here comes the 5th set
In reply to mikesiva
Tsitsipas is fighting well but Joka doesn't seem to be playing at a high level, he is making lots of unforced errors...looking for Joka to come back very strong in the final set...
In reply to hotarobin
Like pappy!
In reply to Chrissy
should be an interesting final - Nadal in three straight maybe four....
In reply to hotarobin
Djokovic vs Nadal final.
Normal service has been resumed.
Swiatek for the win! Congrats! The best player in this tournament by some distance
In reply to mikesiva
Iga Świątek has arrived - want to see her against Naomi.
In reply to imusic
Classy and she recently turned 19
In reply to imusic
Yuzimme!
//
In reply to Chrissy
LOOKS LIKE NAOMI CALLED IT
AND HEREt
In reply to Chrissy
Bagel for Djokovic!
In reply to mikesiva
Great start
Rafa gets the break 2-1
Double break 4-1
In reply to Chrissy
You real happy
The length of the match Djokovic played on Friday most likely is affecting his performance in the Final today.
looking like three straight...Nadal vs Joka on clay is not a good match up for Joka especially at Roland Garros. Joka has only ever been able to beat him there once ever and that was when Nadal had serious knee issues....
I'd be surprise to see Joka turn this around....
In reply to dayne
6-0; 6-2
In reply to FuzzyWuzzy
Nadal gets di break - dis done
In reply to hotarobin
6-0,6-2 Nadal is arguably the greatest ever clay court player.
In reply to Chrissy
Enjoy
In reply to FuzzyWuzzy
pack the joker back to his mamma
one more set...
In reply to powen001
3-2 here comes #13 for di French and #20 Grand slam wind in di year 2020.
Weh Spuds? Come in Devin di Fed fanatic!!
What a freaking clinic dis - absolutely beautiful to watch
Djoka gets a break
3-3
In reply to Chrissy
One plus about coronavirus is the players have to get their own damn towels!
Now 4-4.
In reply to mikesiva
5-5
Never thought I would ever have sympathy for Djokovic
In reply to birdseye
Me too!
But that was until he started snapping at the ball boys.
My sympathy didn't last long.
Djokovic double faults and Nadal will serve for the title.
Rafa gets di break. Done dis now
In reply to mikesiva
Di look on his face after dat double fault - dis done. He's a hard person to like.
Best one of the 13 - a complete slaughter - in three - my star Rafa 6-0; 6-2; 7-5.
Congrats to the 🐐
In reply to Chrissy
You like to talk shoite when you win?
Congrats to Rafa for unbelievable playing.
The Joka even collected a bagel as a goodwill gesture for his efforts ...
Anyone who falls for the pretense of Djokovic being nice obviously hasn't been watching tennis a long time. HOLD THAT STRAIGHT SET CUTASS
In reply to zimzimma Damn! It took Nadal to bring you out of hiding hope all is well
Lol you know I will come out for Rafa!!!
Djokovic was never so happy to wear a mask
In reply to zimzimma
Remember when Trump invited Rafa for a state dinner and Rafa did not even show up to defend his US Open title
This is about way more than just winning at a sport.
Rafa, Naomi, Lebron et al - allyuh rule fi eva!
Rafa in dey pweffin! Str8 phorquene sets. Dat was just awesome.
I am sure Djokovic cannot wait for the Australia Open to come so he could get a chance to return the favor.
In reply to Chrissy
Rafa has never put a foot wrong. He is simply amazing
In reply to zimzimma
It was beautiful tennis - di man did not lose a single set from Round 1.
and mi nah deal wid no Fuzz today.
In reply to Chrissy
Look like married life good fi him
In reply to birdseye
Eent although shé been with him fi ages
In reply to mikesiva
Thanks for a great thread bro
In reply to mikesiva
Arguably the GOAT. There has never been anyone harder to beat on any surface.
In reply to Chrissy
In reply to birdseye
Yep Djoka was the same until the quarters - lost one set there and then two in the semis against Tsitsipas.
It was those five sets that made it so easy fi my bwoy today
In reply to mikesiva
congrats to Nadal on equaling Roger Federer for the most major titles and his 13th Roland Garros...
as I said it's all about the match ups and Joka don't want to see Nadal on clay....as a matter of fact plenty other players give Nadal more trouble on clay than Joka....this is not to say that Joka is a bad clay court player...just like Federer he is a great clay court player but just like Fed he is woefully ineffective against Nadal on that surface....Thiem would have been a better matchup for sure...
