HEADLINE: Players seem receptive to New Zealand tour - Roger Harper

CaribbeanCricket.com 2020-10-06 12:48:09

Cricket West Indies’ chief selector Roger Harper said that after discussing the upcoming tour of New Zealand with players, there has been no indication that they are not interested.

Harper was responding to questions regarding the upcoming tour that is to run from November 27 to December 15 on i95FM Sports.

During the three-Test tour of England in July, Shimron Hetmyer, Keemo Paul and Darren Bravo declined invitations over concerns about their safety. However, since the tour was successful and the players returned safely, it is likely that all players selected will take up the chance to travel to New Zealand next month.

“There was a briefing recently where the players were informed of what is taking place, what measures have been put in place, what protocols will obtain during the tour,” Harper said. “And when we look at finalizing the squad, we’ll discuss with them whether they are willing to tour or not. At this point, we’ve not had a definite indication from anyone that they’re not interested.”

The replacements I would like to see are;
Bravo - Hope
Pooran - Cornwall
Joshua Da Silva - Campbell

dayne 2020-10-06 16:09:50

Some replacements to improve the squad from the last tour could be, Bravo for Hope, Pooran for Bonner, Moseley for Campbell, Mcsween for Reifer and Permaul or Warrican for Cornwall. Cornwall and Chase should not be played in the same match.

In reply to dayne Is Wagner still playing?...I don't think Dowrich is going to add much value if he is...will be too busy ducking and trying to get out of the way of every ball.

Same captain? Same VC? Not sure what we will come away with other than more lost "hope", if we don't lose Hope ( Shai).

Why not name your replacements, instead of doing the usual?

Andrew Mason just name the squad, Bravo, Hetmyer, Paul and Da Silva are selected.
They will be four reserves and a 14 man T20 squad, with reserves also.

Is Roger a politician? So is there any definite indication from anyone that they are interested? smile

I did not write it down, I will listen to the podcast when it is up and post it.
Cornwall and Reifer are in the the squad.

How does Reifer retain a place on the squad?

Based on what exactly? His name?

Pure jokes on selection

Players with T20 league contracts have learned to "talk nice" to CWI. The one without T20 contracts know that they HAVE to "talk nice" to CWI officials.

So, they will be "receptive" for as long as they can. Even Dre Rus and Sunil "receptive"!

Mason said he heard.....not official....that this is the 15 man squad

Jason Holder - capt
Brathwaite
Hetmeyer
Bravo
Brooks
Chase
Blackwood
DeSilva
Dowrich
Paul
Cornwall
Roach
Joseph
Chemar Holder
Gabriel

He also said he head that there will be 5 reserves and that Mosley and Reifer are among the reserves

He said that the selectors spoke with Nicholas Pooran but per chief selector Roger Harper, Pooran must first play 4 day cricket before being considered for the test team.

Again....the named squad is NOT OFFICIAL. Mason said this is what he was told.

So Reifer but not Mayers? Strange

imusic 2020-10-07 20:55:30

In reply to Logic

Not necessarily. There are still 3 reserves that he didn’t know. Maybe Mayers is one of them.

He also said “Bonner didn’t make it”. Not sure if he meant didn’t make it to the test squad or the touring party.
