Legendary West Indies fast bowler Courtney Walsh believes a lack of patience proved to be a major hindrance to the development of pacer Jerome Taylor, once considered one of the region’s brightest prospects.

“The first time I saw Jerome Taylor I was excited, but this longevity wasn’t there.  The one thing I kept saying to him is just I don’t think he was patient enough,” Walsh told the Mason and Guest radio program.

While Ambrose and Walsh made some good points our fast bowlers of recent times, I believe what really worked against them was their relatively small stature. Critics will say that Marshall wasn't a big bowler, but Macco was the exception to the rule. Macco was able to swing the ball both ways from the same delivery action.

In my opinion to be a great fast bowler you need a Combination of intimidation which comes from being tall and great control.Having express pace is an added bonus.
Can you imagine batsmen with stature like Hayden and Symonds being intimated by the likes of Collymore, Fidel, Taylor, Roach and Tino? Ambrose was never express paced but you didn't see many batsmen planting their front foot down the pitch when facing him.

i slightly disagree while it is good to have tall fast bowlers to generate that bounce it's not the biggest asset, tino was just not skilled enough but fidel kemar ,and taylor in their prime had batsmen hopping with their pace and aggression and they are short men

HOW TALL was Gilchrist? Sobers said he was the fastest and most intimadating in his time.

And what about the big burly guys who werent very tall: Griffith, Daniel, Clarke and Patterson?

Griffith was 6'-3", perfect height for fast bowling, most bowlers over that height depend on bounce rather than speed.

It seems to me, too many talented West Indian players slip through the cracks and fail to reach their full potential. We must find a way to fix this problem. It is a shame to see good talent go to waste.

Fans in the region dont seem to get it, when it comes to development of players, they still think talent is enough.
Where I live and in other areas, sport is part of a person development, parents are investing in their children sports and drama activities, the say way they are doing in school.
Young Jousha Da Silva parents understand this, thats why Jousha can show the world his daily training routines, with his coach at the QPO.
