West Indies head coach Phil Simmons has expressed optimism that the team has added needed firepower to its batting line-up following the return of talented batsman Darren Bravo, ahead of the New Zealand series.
The 31-year-old Bravo, along with Shimron Hetmyer and Keemo Paul, declined not to take part in the team’s tour of England earlier this year, citing health concerns due to the ongoing pandemic.
Despite winning the first Test with a commendable performance, the West Indies batting line-up went through its typical struggles in the next two, as the series went to England 2-1. The West Indies's batting performance in the England series was among their worst on tour since 2000, with the top-6 averaging just 28.66 and no century in the entire three-game series.
“He’s (Bravo) has always been important, to the Test team especially, and it’s good to have him and Shimron back in the squad,” Simmons told members of the media on Friday.

are these people for real? my word a man that averages 20 something in 16 matches without a century and a batsman who has yet to prove he still has the goods to deliver at the top class level. and in some peoples delusional eyes the result would have been diferent in england if these two were there . people actually think these two are the keys to wi batting fortunes if you go by the many pundits no wonder nobody takes wi cricket serious. we seem to be stuck on stupid permanently
It's good to see Bravo is back , but Hetmyer's presence is still debatable for the Test team, he might not make the final eleven in that team with Brooks and Blackwood there, unless he volunteers to open the batting with KB.
Based on past stats and results I would have been more glad to have DaSilva and Mayers in the squad IN ADDITION to Bravo/Hetmyer
Bravo and Hetmyer have done nothing in the last couple of years to instill confidence....Simmons talking as if this is SOBERS/KANHAI or RICHARDS/GREENIDGE or more recently LARA/SHIV

analysts......for someone so meticulous with stats you seem to forget that darren bravo was banished by that truculent moron cameron for three years and only returned in march of last year. The dude has played two series, one against the then #1 ranked side.....keep bravo out of your gibberish

Past stats and results. Got to hand it to you. Especially after De Silvas and Mayers stellar performances to date in test cricket.

Why unnecessary comparison with players of different era... although not relevant to the present topic Shiv/Lara kept on scoring tons of runs and West Indies went on losing series after series....Bravo as senior player showed his calibre in the comeback England series with superlative gutsy knock....In New Zealand series ,Bravo and Braithwaite are two vital players...all other batter can bat around them... West Indies can win this series ,if abovementioned thing happens.......
