West Indies coach Phil Simmons has apologized for the behavior of his players who breached New Zealand’s Covid-19 safety protocols and caused the team to be stripped of exemptions that had allowed to train while in isolation.
Simmons also confirmed that the players who transgressed would be sanctioned internally.
Earlier this week, the New Zealand Health Ministry, revealed that several West Indies players repeatedly ran afoul of the restrictions imposed while the team was in isolation in Christchurch. The incidents, they said, were captured on closed-circuit television and also reported by staff at the facility where the team is being housed.
"I have to apologise to the New Zealand public and the government who have allowed us to come here. It's embarrassing from our point of view," Simmons told New Zealand media, explaining that the incident has now robbed the team of valuable training time.

Im surprised the apology didnt come from assistant coach Roddy Estwick. Seeing how he givin interviews all over the place.one would have sworn hes the teams official spokesperson.

Did we travel without a manager??? Is the CWI president on vacation?
The more we hear about this mess the more we see how protocols were easily transgressed

The offenders should be sent home immediately.
They breached the protocols and were warned.
These guys then took it upon themselves to blatantly disregard the warning and proceeded to breach the protocols a second time.
In my book that is unforgivable.

Rawle Lewis has been the most recent manager...but these days the head coach trumps the manager as team spokesman

" I have to apologize to the New Zealand public and Government WHO HAVE ALLOWED US TO BE HERE" Lets put aside the transgression for a moment: Is anyone offended by the psychology of this pathetic man? You travel over thousands of miles to entertain these ppl, jeopardizing the health of our cricketers and making a few bucks for CWI and you view that as a privilege????? Maybe there should be self respect and IQ tests for these misfits placed to represent the WI public. Simply disgraceful.

Anyone can make a mistake but this is the key line for me, and the bolded words are most important of all:
Earlier this week, the New Zealand Health Ministry, revealed that several West Indies players repeatedly ran afoul of the restrictions imposed while the team was in isolation in Christchurch.
This is a significant failure- of the players themselves and the WI internal monitoring system.

I was beginning to think it was just me ...... it was cringe-worthy
CWI should bring the players home and call off the tour
maybe he was forced to make that statement ...... was he one of the culprits???
New Zealand is not exactly a fun place at the best of times for this I empathise with Phil, furthermore at 2:00 am in the morning and with limited access to the fridge and with stiff competition from Roddy it can be a lonely place

Repeatedly ran afoul
Now thats very interesting
Because if it was a big deal then why wasnt it picked up once
All here seem to think the NZ protocols are Rolls Royce
Where was the initial transgression
How was it dealt with
Seems like a right mess now

Agreed. That falls squarely on management.

How so? Is management supposed to be baby sitting players at 2.00a.m?

Youre in charge of a team. In cases of repeated transgressions, disciplinary action needs to be taken. But beyond that, of transgressions are repeated, it raises questions about your leadership.
In todays world of pro sport, the head coach has the ultimate responsibility.
If theres an off field indiscipline issue with Spurs, it wont be the the owner that will be held responsible. It will be Mourinho.
