Campbell failed again but De Silva yet to bat

rillo 2020-11-21 16:59:52

So is Campbell already penciled in as the opener alongside Braithwaite or is the competition for places alive?
Desilva should have come in to see what form he has and put pressure on Campbell. That is the darn problem with CWI and it policies. They have 3 different teams and yet not one of them can win a few matches in a row. They continue to keep the good aspiring kids down and away from the teams and players like Pooran or Phillips does not get a sniff at test level.
NZ is being given the series on a platter.

anthonyp 2020-11-21 18:25:39

DaSilva is a reserve player, he'not in the squad.. Campbell and Kraigg are the test openers for the tour.

As for Phillips.. which pacer in the squad you dropping for him to play?

imusic 2020-11-21 18:31:02

Harding has a better case than Phillips

They take McSween and Reifer to be Wagner and Boult clones. Good luck with that.

I should had linked that live instagram with Jason yesterday, he outlined the selection, even speaking of Searles selection.
I tried finding it on instagram to no avail.
It is best you listen to it, and get your take.

Thanks - Great interview. Jason was very down to earth.

Jamstar 2020-11-21 22:50:18

Obviously the top 6 here will be the top 6 in the test.

Top seven.
Remainding four are;
J Holder
Roach
Joseph/Cornwall
Gabriel

imusic 2020-11-22 00:39:12

Interesting responses when Holder was asked about his favourites in different positions

Devil liners is his favourite batsman

Kemar roach is among his favourite bowlers

He rated Dowrich among the top wicket keeper bstsmen in the game

He doesn’t care for Ben Stokes so not his favourite all rounder

And interesting choice for favourite fielder. In Southee

imusic 2020-11-22 00:44:32

Hetmeyer’s form and approach in the T20’s will determine if he’s included in the starting XI for the first test

He’s at a disadvantage as by the time he’s finished his quarantine, there will be no more 3 or 4 day practice matches for him to spend time in the middle.

1st test team is likely to be:

Brathwaite
Campbell
Bravo
Brooks
Blackwood
Chase
Holder
Dowrich
Joseph
Roach
Gabriel

Hetmeyer only plays if
He makes a lot of runs in T20
&/OR
They decide to use a makeshift opener instead of Campbell

I is obvious you dont understand the process, prior to the Pandemic a team would select 15 players, plus reserved that us fans would not know, until someone got injured, and one of them would be the replacement.
teams are allowed to select a squad plus additional players, the additional players can train with the squad, and is there, as replacement for an injured player.
The test squad:
TEST SQUAD

Jason Holder (captain)
Jermaine Blackwood
Kraigg Brathwaite
Darren Bravo
Shamarh Brooks
John Campbell
Roston Chase
Rahkeem Cornwall
Shane Dowrich
Shannon Gabriel
Shimron Hetmyer
Chemar Holder
Alzarri Joseph
Keemo Paul
Kemar Roach
TEST RESERVES

Nkrumah Bonner
Joshua DaSilva
Preston McSween
Shayne Moseley
Raymon Reifer
Jayden Seales

The selectors obviously still have faith in Campbell. We should accept that, wish Campbell the best and hope this works out well for Campbell and WI.

Campbell's performances here will decide his own future.

rillo 2020-11-22 04:25:24

Saw that. Still he should have come in higher. WI have played 3 openers before. Just saying Campbell is opener is not putting heat on him or any other player to perform.
That goes for the whole squad. Hence WI teams fails to deliver.

He was reserve in England also and outperformed Campbell.
What is this CWO selection policy/ Once you get picked that is it no one can replace you?
No wonder we are last or almost last in every category.

Campbell will always have issues with his batting unless he checks his shot selection. Notwithstanding, the selectors are giving him a fair run i.e. two series to establish or ruin his Test fate. I think that is fair enough as if he earns his keep beyond the NZ series, then kudos to him. If he fails then both his supporters and detractors should be satisfied.

DaSalvia (who, likewise, did not acquit himself well in this match) and others will get their chance.

dayne 2020-11-22 15:15:01

If Campbell fails in the first Test and looks bad at it, I think the Selectors should take the risk and put Hetmyer in his spot, he has open for Guyana before, he has the talent to do better and he cannot do worse.

velo 2020-11-22 15:52:10

what ever happened to the mantra if you can bat you should be able to bat anywhere in the line up if kraigg can be a opening batsmen with his limitations in technique why can't anyone else take up the job if you can't find a reliable one,i mean the australian pair of langer and hayden did not start out as opening batsmen

dayne 2020-11-22 16:29:21

Agree, but temperament sometimes plays into the decision where a person is best suited to bat, usually openers in red ball cricket need to have the patience to leave balls alone early in the innings when it is still swinging.

anthonyp 2020-11-22 16:34:03

Long now ah saying they need to move away from this specialist opener crap.. all of the current openers in the region can't bat.

I would take a gamble and put Brooks to open for this series instead of Campbell.

During the tour of Australia in 75/76 and the 6 match test series, Deryck Murray, Bernard Julien, and Viv Richards all opened the batting for West Indies

Pace was HOT! Gordon Greenidge say “fuck dat”. Nuff others hide as best they could. Dat was some major pressha we faced in that series

I could imagine men drawing straws in de dressing room to see who would partner Freddo
