An interesting article comparing him with Kohli

Norm 2020-12-01 16:21:19

Steve Smith many times better than Kohli, or anyone else except Bradman.

West Indian batsmen should try to emulate Smith if the are serious about their batting! The guy makes batting looks so easy!

Keemo Paul should emulate Hazlewood and keep it as simple as possible, instead of trying experiment with different variations!

Exactly! Dennis Lillie would put a coin on a good length and practice for hours trying to hit it.

No point bowling all kinds of variations when you can't even bowl a proper line and length.

True, and Keemo need to focus on his batting and leave the bowling as a back-up talent. He is not built for journeyman fast bowling. Everytime he puts in a decent spell of bowling, he winds up injured.

Yep. Especially in franchise T20 where big hitting equates to big dollars.

These guys have the talent but talent alone won't cut it at the elite level. Lots of hard work is needed too.

Yes! Actually I was about to say the same thing!
Without proper coaching, natural ability will only take you so far! The coaching in the West Indies is lacking!

You would think a guy like Shiv would be the ideal role model for these Guyanese players.

During the off season Shiv could always been seen in the nets batting for hours with a bowling machine, at the gym, or running up and down the seawall in the middle of the day.

You cannot be serious! (tm Johnny Mac)

Hello! Does English County rings a bell??? The place where most of our cricketers of that era honed their skills!

I think Lloyd himself was a defacto coach during his captaincy era. Then Kanhai was formally appointed late 80's early 90's?

seaegg99 2020-12-02 00:43:26

Never was into Smith's style. WI pacers would eat him up just like Greg Chapell was.

That WI team had several things going for them. One, they were a bunch of talented players. Two, most if not all were playing in English county cricket under various coaches. Three, WI team blossomed to their peak during the Packer series when Dennis Waite appointed trainer. Lloyd himself credited the significant impact Dennis Waite had on that team.

The current team is lacking in all 3 areas mentioned above. Talent, no proper coaching, and poor management.

Two we can fix instantly.

and that will resolve the problem? Coach and Management need talent to work with. The base product is talent! lol
