HEADLINE: 'They grow up facing spin' - Toby Radford

Former West Indies batting coach, Toby Radford, has questioned the conventional wisdom of selecting so many spinners for the team's upcoming tour of Bangladesh.

The omission of promising pace bowler Chemar Holder raised more than a few eyebrows when the squad was named last week, especially on the back of a promising debut in New Zealand.  The Test squad at current features four spinners in Rahkeem Cornwall, Kavem Hodge, Veerasammy Permaul, and Jomel Warrican along with the regular fast-bowling trio of Shannon Gabriel, Kemar Roach and Alzarri Joseph.

“I’ve been listening to what people have been saying.  We have gone heavy with a lot of spin.  You expect the pitches to be slow and turn out there.  Whether they need as many spinners as they are taking, I’m not too sure,” Radford told the Mason and Guest radio program.

if you're worth your salt then you'll spin it like the natives make the ball talk.

I agree with the thoughts of Radford, I cannot understand the thoughts of the WI Selectors, Tino Best had his two best performances in Test cricket when he was there a few years ago. Tino Best at that time was not even a regular member of the Barbados team. That says something, the Selectors probably forgot about the last time the WI played three spinners in a Test match, India was asked to make over 400 runs to win the Test match and they did win that match with over 5 wicket to spare.

How the hell can you replace C Holder with a spinner of questionable worth? Harper has proven to be one dunce, took Cornwall to NZ in the cold where no spinner was needed and now instead of giving Holder an opportunity to build on his NZ experience you bring an extra spinner.

I think spinners are going to play important role during the tour....it doesn't matter... even if Bangladeshi batters grew up playing spinners....it's all about quality of bowlers ..... Aussie grew up playing fast bowling...but were humbled by the Indian Pacers....this tour will test the quality of Cornwall, Permaul,Hodge and Warrican...

In reply to Onionman0not the same thing indian has a strong fast bowling unit that can bowl out anybody in most conditions with a top notch spinner in their mix. nobody is in the delusions about these west indies spinners that don't spin the ball i once heard warrican say he is a defensive spinner that waits for batsmen to make mistakes that summed it up for me

big grin big grin
