Mahmud, Bangladesh's new pace prodigy, has credited bowling coach Ottis Gibson for helping him with his pace and variations. "He [Gibson] is giving me some good advice. I am working with him to make my line, length, yorker, slower balls more accurate,'' said Hasan.

How is it Otis can't get through to windies players but he can make breakthroughs with Bangladeshis whose 1st language is not English?

Gibson is better looking than Eswick, more knowledgeable and a better coach.
We let him walk away.
Our loss....

a Dutch fooball coach tells me , the way you coach European, is not the same for South American,African or other players, each group has its unique requirements.

Anderson,Broad,Stone, Wood,and now Hasan Mahmud

“To work with the two best bowlers in terms of wickets taken in the history of England cricket is unbelievable. Anderson is very skilful. He knows how to bowl an outswinger and then an inswinger without much of a change in his action. He’s also open to new challenge. If I say go close to the stumps and bowl an inswinger or go wide of them and bowl and bowl an outswinger then he’s still curious about the game. If you are curious, you continue to learn. He is not a senior pro who is set in his ways and just wants to plod in drop it on a length. He still wants to develop new skills. The way he looks after himself is a credit to him. He has had a very good summer and I know he feels he still has a few years left in him for England,” Gibson added.

West Indians just didn't want Gibson. The same way that they do not want Phil. Maybe we need foreign coaches to get through to our players. The same way that Gibson is a foreign coach to those players who credit him with helping them.

TyTy35 2021-01-24 23:52:08

Gibson has proven himself to be an outstanding bowling coach, but not so much as a head coach. People seem to forget that he failed and was fired from the head coaching spot in South Africa too. If he was to come back to the West Indies as a bowling coach most people would be happy to have him.

Failed is all relative.

He won 5/7 test series including beating India and Australia
He won 6/7 odi series losing only to India
He won 5/7 t20 series

An exodus of SA players to Kolpak gutted the SA team and finally led to his ousting.

He took Windies to #5 in Test ranking including 6 consecutive wins. Also a T20 World cup. Right now we can only dream of such success.

Otis is a good fast bowling coach but head coach was where he failed. But frankly speaking, I had high hopes for Simmons but this ODI series and the one against NZ shows he is not delivering either

So we have a head coach now who is neither a bowling coach nor a batting coach?

Dais logic papa. Replacing 50 percent with ZERO percent.

Btw, coach Simmons is as shitty and laid back as one can get.

big grin

I am not surprised at all.

BTW, with forty-four (44) test matches under his belt, Rabada has just passed 200 test wickets __ the third-fastest fast bowler to do it.

If you check some of the top bowlers in England and South Africa, the late Malcolm Marshall and Otis Gibson had a say in their fast bowling careers.
