Simmons looking for 10 points vs Bangladesh

West Indies head coach Phil Simmons, while lamenting the team’s poor showing in Bangladesh so far, is hoping to secure at least 10 points and put their first numbers up on the ICC ODI Super League table.

Following back-to-back defeats and surrendering the series 2-0, the West Indies enter today’s dead rubber at 10 p.m. Jamaica time, with only one thing on their minds, and that is to get a victory and the valuable points that will ultimately boost their morale and confidence.

“We came here for 30 points and we have a chance of getting 10 still in this competition. I also want to see improvement as we have gone from 120 to 140, but we need to get to that 230, 240, 250 mark so that we can be competitive and give the bowlers something to bowl at and show our mettle,” said Simmons upon arrival in Chattogram.

Ten points for Simmons and his troops will be crucial for the team’s chances of gaining one of the eight automatic spots for direct entry to the 2023 World Cup.

The bottom five teams will have to play in a qualifying event in Zimbabwe, along with teams from the lower divisions of the qualification pathway.

Oh how has the mighty West Indies fallen a long way, as we are hoping against hope for a mere 10 out of 30 points from traditionally cellar-dwellers Bangladesh, and WI is almost assured into the bottom 5 teams qualification pathway, unless of a miraculous intervention.

If Simmonds want to get the 10 points, he should give his team a main goal, bat out the fifty overs, runs will come if they use up the overs.

Maybe the expectations were too high for this make-shift team, we would have hoped for them to be at least competitive but all our unrealistic promotion of them might be in vain if they do not at least win one match and give Simmons at least the satisfaction of 10 points. In summary, our reality is that we must face facts that we might not really have much competent back up players. A very sad state of affairs in WI.

If we are going to have a makeshift team what is the better option:

A team of has beens
A team of upcoming youngsters

Anybody misses Dave Cameron?

Why can other teams send its best players to a qualifying series but we(W.I) cannot due to player discretion? Where is the commitment? Dave was an ass but, he at least pointed out some failings of our players' commitment to representing W.I.

Now we have pretty boy and clueless Skerritt in charge and we going further south.

redface twisted

Should get -10 if we cannot make 200.
