SL Cricket Squad performs 2km run fitness test

Sri Lanka Cricket launched the ‘2km Run Fitness Test’ for the National Players to ascertain their fitness levels yesterday (12) at the Sugathadasa Stadium.

Accordingly, 32 players of a 36 member provisional squad training for the Tour of West Indies, participated in the test.

The new test deemed a standard method of determining the ‘Fitness and Endurance’ levels of athletes, replacing the Yo-Yo method previously used by SL cricket.
According to the new test, players were given a target of running the 2km distance within 8 minutes and 35 seconds.

It is slightly less than one and a quarter miles in 8 minutes and 35 seconds. It really does not sound too difficult.I think it is easier to do than get 40 in the yo-yo test.It is more stamina and less speed.Guys are running at least a mile every day so it should be pretty easy.

P.S 2 kilometers is 1.24272 miles.

I am confident that Hetty and Chase can do that easily.

Hetty has more hind quarter than a bonsmara bull

He has to lose some of that first

At 45 I was still running 4 1/2 minutes per KM certainly for 2 km...8 minutes point should be attainable for these guys even if it shouldn’t be a prerequisite for selection. A cricketer is not a soccer player.

...at that same age I was still doing 5km from anywhere from 22 to 24 minutes

...in club cricket we used to do our paces before and after practice, but these guys do a lot of gym work and mostly weights. However, when you listen to the old fast bowlers for example they never did weights but instead did a lot of stamina work on the beach to build up their calves and thighs and glutes, and a lot of swimming to keep supple and lithe.

2 questions

1.Do you notice any weight loss with Hetty comparing the CPL last year and this just completed 50 over competition?

2.How has Hetty looked in the outfield in this just completed 50 over competition?

One of the things I have been specially trained to do is observe people very closely It is vital for excellence in what I used to do You on the other hand require close observation of words in what you used to do.

I could have asked a third question about a former cricketer to highlight what I am talking about but that would have been in poor taste.

Andy Roberts talks ad nauseam about fast bowlers being dependent on strong legs.Upper body strength will help you bowl fast for 2 or 3 overs, whereas leg strength will allow you to bowl fast for 8 overs.
Joel Garner was an avid swimmer.

answers-

1) he is a tad slimmer than he was but not yet back to the level he was when he began or before he got married

2) he moved well in the outfield but if he gets back to his pre marriage size it would be better

re your observation- i have warned you before about statements you make in the assumption that you are the only observant / prescient person on this MB or this world if you have so presumed.

yes i make certain statements, seemingly contentious at times, but i do so knowing what are likely issues that can be raised therefrom.

therefore i am neither be surprised or flustered when such issues emanated as a result.

conclusion-

even though you have gotten word to Hety to look after his fitness, he is not there yet. improved fitness, as you well know or should know, not only yields result physically but mentally.

i doubt you would argue, and i would be surprised in this instance if you do, that Hety would take his place in the upper echelons of WI batting ranks and the world, if his mental capacity is line or better than his physical improvement such as it is, as you have contended so robustly if not persistently

Is Uglyman Otis a part of the SL coaching system now?

I recall when UB used to complain about Otis sending him on laps (as he put it), "Like me is a track star".

Grant Luden, Physical Performance Manager of Sri Lanka Cricket states scores will be adjusted as the team gets better and becomes world-class and the bowlers, batsmen, and wicket keepers will be given different time targets.

No one picked up the above comment, times will be adjusted.
