back in the day players were picked for certain tours because they negotiated spin better than others. if it was a neck and neck decision then the one who played the slower stuff better got the nod, when last such a selection for a windies' batting spot get the nod for that skillset?

Pakistan last tour of the Caribbean should have destroyed that myth. Shaddab made many people look silly including Pollard and company limited. Jason Mohammed was the noted exception

They can play spin; the problem is power hitting good spin bowling. The same spinners giving WI batsmen problems in T20 are unlikely to cause as much problems in tests

Maybe there were better Test quality Spin-bowlers back then which helped result in better players of spin in the WI. Today's WI spin bowlers have difficulty getting top class batsmen out yet seem to top the FC bowling averages and wicket taking.
