West Indies and Jamaica star batsman, Chris Gayle, has admitted to some amount of COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy and would not want to take the medication if given a choice.

With the disease having a devastating impact on normal life over the last year, countries around the globe have already launched various campaigns to stop the spread of COVID-19 in a bid to halt its devastating impact on those most vulnerable to its effects. 

According to research, the majority of the vaccines have efficacy rates between 80 and 100 percent when it comes to preventing serious illness and deaths for those who contract the virus.  Despite the evidence of clinical trials, however, some have questioned the safety of the vaccines.  Last week, Jamaican World Champion Yohan Blake stated that he would rather not compete at the Olympics than take the vaccine.

“If I don’t have to take it, I wouldn’t want to take it. I wouldn’t want to take any vaccine at all, to be honest, because I am naturally living fine. So, I don’t want anything being injected inside of me,” Gayle told the Antigua Radio program Good Morning Jojo Radio Show.

I agree with the UNIVERSE BOSS...me no take no injection....wear masks should be fine....once yuh injected a mistake cannot be corrected.
Too many vaccines of different names causing confusion in public minds.

When I was a child I saw people with mumbs, measles and chicken pox. Thanks to vaccines I don't see people with those ailments anymore. Once the vaccine becomes available, I'll be rolling up my sleeve.

I was sceptical of the vaccine, the whole covid virus and all the false positives and track and trace stuff but people I know that have taken it say it's no different to the flu jab, you might not feel great for a day or two after but then it's fine.

I have had mine in the UK - no side effects except for a bit of a sore arm. Now gives me a lot of confidence.

I feel the vaccine will become mandatory for traveling purposes
so soon to play in a man's land then might have to take it

I took the first dose a week ago feeling fine
Seemed to have opened up my appetite a few hours later though, lol

I could understand Gayle's concern, no one knows about the long term effects and the vaccines are still being adjusted to counter new variations of the virus. There were vaccines given out in the fifties and sixties that twenty years later were found out to cause brain cancer in adults and deformities in babies of mothers who took them.

Really, which vaccines caused cancers and abnormalities..mmm only saw some Polio instances and that was caused because of cross-contamination by another virus. As a matter of fact there are vaccines that prevent certain cancers.
My mom and sisters have gotten their jook and I can't wait to get mine.

Chris Gayle, as Jamaicans we have taken many vaccinations throughout our lifetime and my brother there is no difference between the ones we took previously and the Covid-19 vaccine. I am not appealing to you because I am Medical Healthcare professional but from my own experience, I have already taken the vaccine, I feel fine, my colleagues who took vaccines are just as fine and there are no reality to the many conspiracy theories out in the society.
Chris considering your enormous status as a public figure, one whom the youths and others in the Jamaican and Caribbean emulate, and considering that the daily new cases in Jamaica are currently over 600, please demonstrate that you are the real Worl Boss, by setting an example to your fans and supporters by taking the Vaccine.

Pure nonsense from Gayle and a bad example for someone so influential to millions. But we all entitled to our ignorance.

i certainly think it should be mandatory to travel that should stop the spread of cases.most caribbean people have only had access to the astrazanecka vaccine. which has shown to be useless against the more dangerous variants from africa but so far they have not been any cases of side effects despite it being rushed into production

Why should anyone care about what Gayle says. He really is not that important. He is just a guy who can yam at ball - if a ketch it. And if he does not want to take the vaccine, that's his business. Why should anyone worry if he prefers to catch covid-19. What should happen though, these guys who refuse to protect themselves and others around them should not be allowed to be in the team around other people. And Gayle won't be missed by the team either.

There are several instances of vaccines causing cancers, the most known one is the case of the polio vaccine back in the sixties, that's why so much caution is taking now before certifying new vaccines.

The vast majority of peeps who doan want vaccine in fact fraid the needle...is the needle dem fear...not de vaccine
