HEADLINE: Hero CPL 2021 set to take place in St Kitts & Nevis

CaribbeanCricket.com 2021-04-27 15:17:05

The 2021 Hero Caribbean Premier League (CPL) will take place in St Kitts & Nevis in its entirety, with all 33 games being played in the Federation. The tournament will get underway on 28 August with a similar format of games that worked so successfully in 2020 and delivered a record audience of over 500 million.

Last year the tournament was successfully staged in a bio-secure bubble and the Hero CPL operations team will again be working closely with the tournament’s medical advisors, local agencies and the St Kitts & Nevis government to ensure the health and safety of all those involved in the tournament as well as the local population.  St Kitts & Nevis has no COVID-19 transmission and is one of the safest places to visit in the Caribbean.

Warner Park has been the scene of some of the most iconic matches in Hero CPL history and this quick scoring ground will be an ideal venue for the tournament and fans can expect explosive cricket. From Chris Gayle’s brilliant hundred against the Jamaica Tallawahs in 2019 to Andre Russell’s even more explosive century against the Trinbago Knight Riders in 2016, Warner Park has had some classic individual performances. There have also been some amazing matches, not least the game that went to a Super Over finish between the St Kitts & Nevis Patriots and the Knight Riders in 2019.

This is madness. St. Kitts has one ground. How are you going to play 33 matches on one ground? Antigua did the Super 50 using 2 grounds and there were so many complaints about the pitches.
This is obviously not about cricket.

Yeah I really was hoping they would of used Warner Park and at Least Conaree Grounds.
That's the only thing that surprised me the hosting all the games at one ground.

So let's see how it works out

timeless99 2021-04-27 15:49:09

That's madness well the ground is only tiny so score should still be high

Maispwi 2021-04-27 15:49:38

In reply to bobby

St. Kitts has 2 grounds

sunfish 2021-04-27 15:52:38

They probably chose St Kitts because it has a good Covid record.

positiveg 2021-04-27 16:00:31

In reply to Maispwi

But they keep saying Warner Park, But as saying they can play some in Conaree
But there's still time so let's see

Maispwi 2021-04-27 16:09:06

In reply to positiveg

The article does not say dat all de matches will be at Warner Park.

Can't imagine one venue hosting 2 games a day with only 2 days break over the first 30 games

Maispwi 2021-04-27 16:11:44

In reply to positiveg

The article is selling some of the classic games dat took place at Warner Park but we all saw the results of number of matches played in de Super 50 and Sri Lanka on pitch conditions

TriniStar 2021-04-27 16:14:27

I am not against St Kitts or any island or islands staging the entire tournament but I am against all matches being played on just one ground. Does not make sense

TriniStar 2021-04-27 16:15:26

In reply to Maispwi

Well the article only mention one ground. So we should just assume they forgot to mention the other venues where matches will be played?

Maispwi 2021-04-27 16:22:56

In reply to TriniStar

The article also mentioned this:

The tournament will get underway on 28 August with a similar format of games that worked so successfully in 2020

And those games were played at 2 venues so lets wait and see how similar it will be.

TriniStar 2021-04-27 16:25:20

In reply to Maispwi

Similar format means in terms of how it was scheduled and played, does not mean same amount of venues. You reaching with that one. I will wait for the organisers to outright confirm the amount of venues

Maispwi 2021-04-27 16:25:20

In reply to positiveg

Is Grove sorry Elquemedo Willett Park available?

Maispwi 2021-04-27 16:30:48

In reply to TriniStar

So u suggesting dat de format of the tournament does not extend to the use of more than one venue?

TriniStar 2021-04-27 16:34:57

In reply to Maispwi

Dummy I am not suggesting anything. I am responding on what is said in the article. I am not the only one asking the same question and many people who read that will ask the same question

VoopsandOut 2021-04-27 18:21:47

are these going to be crowd-less matches or will they allow persons who have been vaccinated/quarantined attend? i have really enjoyed going to St Kitts in past years to see CPL. There is usually one weekend when you get to see all the teams play.

bobby 2021-04-27 18:33:41

In reply to imusic
You missed the point, maybe conveniently. It is about playing 33 games on one ground.

vaccinated fans are allowed

Maispwi 2021-04-27 19:11:37

In reply to bobby

So u deduced that Warner Park is the only venue from that statement?

I am suggesting that the wording of an ideal venue rather than the ideal venue leaves room the use of more than one venue

In reply to Maispwi

I'm not sure about the EW Park
But i do know the one in Conaree is able to stage matches

they are mentioning training on different grounds, as they were able to do when we hosted matches in the WC.

positiveg 2021-04-27 19:57:04

In reply to navindesigns

Boy don't come unless you walking with you vaccine card eh
We don't play here.
all
We start with all sports being able to have 50% occupancy and only vaccinated ppl (May 15) allowed.
So I guess that card will be a must. I'm wondering if it will be a matter of walking with the card or seeing well having a list of all vaccinated people. cause, as it is now the card, is made out of cardstock and I wouldn't want to be carrying that around every match I go to.

hahaha

I was at the Elquemedo Willett Park in 2019. I don't think it can host CPL or international matches

St. Kitts has two ICC sanctioned grounds?

Fivestar 2021-04-28 01:02:17

In reply to bobby

I agree it would be odd to host an entire tournament at one ground. My gut feeling is the tournament in St Kitts will be held at two grounds. Over the years regional cricket matches in St Kitts have been played at venues other than Warner Park.

Is that a joke?
if you are vaccinated you can attend at the ground?

positiveg 2021-04-28 12:23:30

In reply to Kay

Serious ting Kay,
Vaccinated persons are allowed to attend the games.
In fact all sports in SKN starting May 15

Maispwi 2021-04-28 12:45:54

In reply to Walco

Do you think the Sanford Ground in Antigua is any better than any of the other grounds in St. Kitts and Nevis where Regional cricket has been played?

Why would you require ICC sanction, if there is such a thing, to play a Regional Tournament on grounds that have already hosted such games

Walco 2021-04-28 13:10:44

In reply to Maispwi
The reason for my question is that Kensington Oval had some issues with ICC sanction/certification last year and it was used as a reason/excuse to have T&T host the CPL instead of Barbados.

Overthrow 2021-04-28 20:32:17

In reply to Walco

This is franchise cricket. ICC certification required? I can see for players safety, for the actual tournament being played would be a bit of a surprise.

In reply to Overthrow
Not sure if it is required, but apparently Kensington Oval not meeting ICC standards was used as a reason not to have the tournament in Barbados last year. But dislike of Conde was probably the real reason smile

The 2021 Caribbean Premier League will be hosted entirely at Warner Park in St. Kitts, beginning on August 28

dclar301 2021-04-29 13:09:03

Are the chickens and cows who seem to live at Warner Park part of the 50% capacity?

googley 2021-04-29 13:14:59

In reply to Walco

‘Can you play all 33 games with the standard of cricketers that we have at one ground?’ The answer has been: yes, we can.”

Apparently so. I expect spinners to dominate that tournament
