You can't move a player from Vice-Captaincy
to no retainer contract ... like that.

Dropping Chase is a BIG DISGRACE !!!
Roston Chase would always be in both
my test and 50 overs squads ...
He is one of our best Test Spinners
- taking 8 wickets in an England inning.
He is also a century scoring batsman.

Reflects badly on the selectors
I thought Courtney Browne and his selection panel were out in the left-field but this current selection panel takes the cake.
Those three guys mentioned have choices - forget about WI cricket and enroll at that College in Cave Hill and move on with your lives.
It is not the end of life if you don't get pick again.

Most of the players that were selected by Brown are now out of the team, Harper has brought in his guys and it has been working so far, it has been a surprise.
I dont know the answer to this question which is why Im asking
Does Harper determine who gets retainer contracts, who doesnt, and for how much?
This is indeed a very troubling development. Chase is a very capable cricketer and very dedicated to his team.
In reply to Norm
This is not the year to look at contracts, especially since these players played for reduced wages, the last year.
In reply to Yadi
For some time was thinking of dropping Blackwood to include Chase in the test team. But hell would freeze over before dat happen.Clueless Simmons and the rest DONT LIKE CHANGE.Chase could be then appointed vice cappo.
Short memories on display. Thisll scenario has played itself out at least three times in the last twenty years.
In reply to Yadi
I too think that Chase should have been retained and I also think the BCA ridiculous position of opposing the current administration, despite the forward movement of WI cricket, should be blamed for the Bajan exclusions.
In reply to Norm
That very capable and dedicated cricketer averaged 17.40 with the bat and 41.91 with the ball in test cricket in the last year
His overall test average is 29.20 with the bat and 42.29 with the ball.
Is there a new definition for capable these days?
In reply to imusic
capable and accomplished are not the same!

my test and 50 overs squads ...
...
he is still in the mix if he wants.
In reply to imusic
Dont know any other batsman in current test side averaging over 40 in tests do you?...the only clue he was dropped was a poor record on the last New Zealand tour. But they were all poor and got whacked. Its a mystery to me the way he has been treated.
In reply to TEMPER
Where did I say he had to average 40?
He cant even average 30!!!
So he had a good record on the tour of England? Or you conveniently omitting that?
How about when India played West Indies in the Caribbean before that when he averaged 18
No?
Test against Afghanistan when he played one innings and made 2 runs?
Even Ray Charles could see why Chase wasnt offered a retainer contract. And Ray Charles was blind and hes dead!
In reply to imusic
Sorry friend misread your post....HAHAHA enjoyed the Ray Charles joke...Wikipedia tells me Roystons test stats bat average 30.86 bowling 41.15...test 100s 5/50s 8....still think he should be in the team though as an allrounder giving an extra spinning option to Cornwall. All these fellows are pretty average. We have to be patient and persist with what potential we have.Apologies to you sir.
In reply to TEMPER
No apology needed man.
Is not like I doh ever post nonsense or be wrong
In reply to TEMPER
Bonner average 50.
Mayers average 50.
In reply to TEMPER
Did poorly in England too but form is temporary
How many contracts per squad? Having lost form in 2 series and the 'replacements'
did well one can understand Chase's situation
In reply to imusic
It has always been relative to the other members of the team, whose stats you did not include.
In reply to Norm
Cornwall and Warrican nyam im food
Thats the relativity in play here
In reply to Slipfeeler
Let me get this right ..... on one hand you are blaming the BCA's opposition of the current administration for Chase's misfortune and yet on the other hand you are lauding the board for a forward movement in WI cricket.
If this forward moving board is going to use such petty politics to be vindictive towards a player who had no blame in the game then where is the forward thinking?
In reply to imusic
A reasoned position, Windies can't afford to pay based on sentiments! Players must learn that they are paid for performance!
In reply to imusic
So, wait. We into a typical WI buse out now?
How much Test centuries Cornwall and Warrican have? Are you just comparing these with half of Chase's abilities? In some ways, Chase has outbatted many of the specialist batsmen, and he compares well with the specialist bowlers.
Post the career averages of the present players and let's conpare them with Chases's.

We are talking about retainer contracts here, a mechanism for keeping the most suitable players match-ready. Not awarding Chase a retainer contract is the same as saying that Chase is not one of the best all-rounders in the region. He is probably the second best Test all-rounder in the region, after Jason Holder.
In reply to Norm
I already posted Averages.
You hooked on Chase. Your prerogative.
CWI isnt. Thats theirs.
Chase game has been off for a while now. Brooks more deserved to be retained than him. Hadn't it been for Chase's bowling, he would have been forgotten about already. Poor with the bat in test cricket for a few years now. Matter of fact, Chase should be competing with Cornwall for a spot in the team and not as a #6 batsman anymore.
My biggest shock with the contracts is that Cottrell and Hetmyer didn't get white ball contract. I think Cottrell un doing is probably his fitness. Didn't pass recent fitness test. For me, after Hope & Nicky P, Hetmyer is our next best ODI batsman.
In reply to jen
good to see you my friend, how are things there?
In reply to Norm
Exactly 💯. I share this assessment.
Chase should bat at 5 ,Blackwood at 6 I agree dropping chase is questionable.
In reply to Tommie
And we questioning if we to drop Blacks. Thank Jah for Roger Harper selection on merit.
