HEADLINE: Richards calls on Hetmyer to take more mature approach to game

CaribbeanCricket.com 2021-05-13 12:45:20

West Indies legend, Viv Richards, has called on talented young batsman Shimron Hetmyer to take a more mature approach to cricket, in order to realize and maximize his full potential.

In the same breath, the iconic former batsman fondly referred to as the ‘Master Blaster,’ believes any failure by the player to do so would be a great loss not just to the West Indies, but the sport as a whole.

“You’ve got to put in the work [because] if you take half measure, then you are going to get half measure results for sure. Shortcuts in this particular profession are of no substance and I am not sure if what I am saying here now will get to him at some point, but the individual is a talented individual and there are times when I see him on the field and he is pretty playful like he is still a kid and he actually has to be a little more mature at this stage now,” Richards told the Antigua Observer.

Is Emir Masta Blasta?

Anyways being playful does not mean you're not focused.

While I do agree with Sir Viv general sentiment regarding the traditional forms of cricket, I think Hety has performed admirably in T20s between the wickets and in the field!

What is the real reason for Hety's falling out with the CWI and Selectors? I have read numerous reasons...failed test, not focused, now he is not mature...wonder what's next? This all started after his refusal to go to Bangladesh. Many others who did the same are allowed back, Hety passed the same test a few days later...I am confused!
cool

I personally feel that with more discipline and WI commitment he can be the next Viv Richards
I’m convinced that he has all of the natural talent to succeed .

You are correct but the problem is it takes more than just talent to succeed in international cricket.

Roger Harper bring no independence or purpose to the post, if you look at the reasons why the Ladies all kept their contracts and the men did not, you will see the difference between someone who has a vision.
Heard him yesterday on the Mason show, he was reading from the CWI manual.
Not once did he spoke about the virus and bugle players are in, and some had to missed tournaments.
I had an eye on him with the non selection of Permaul on the tour to England.
India has just selected a number of spinners on it tour to England, an insult to what Harper was was saying, on spinners in England.

I disagree with that totally. This is not a patronage train like the organization de big idiot was running with Browne-nose as his desiminator of gifts. Harper, Simmons, and CWI's objective is to get the men's team competitive again. The men's team is our crownibg jewel and they are demanding excellence. Fitness is the most important thing to a top cricketer. You can't think if you are unfit. My only issue is if you are going to give Hayden Walsh a contract, then you should have given Hetmeyer one. I see Hetmeyer as having a longer run in the WI set up than Walsh. That being said, i have no issues with the panel. For the first time in a very long time, the board is setting and outlining KPI's that the players have to satisfy. Its not a friend thing here. Which is why CB is out in the cold. Hetmeyer is going to come out stronger from this

Can you tell me the difference with these two team contracts?

CWI OFFERS INCREASED NUMBER OF WEST INDIES WOMEN’S RETAINER CONTRACTS FOR 2021-2022 SEASON

This marks a continuation of CWI’s investment into Women’s and Girls cricket which aims to strengthen and widen the talent pool available, as well as encourage greater participation into the women’s game.

CWI’s Lead Selector for Women’s and Girls cricket, Ann Browne-John said

CWI ANNOUNCES WEST INDIES MEN’S CENTRAL CONTRACTS FOR 2021-2022 SEASON

Contracts offered for the 2021-22 period sees 18 players being retained, a decrease of 4 from last year. Jason Holder is the only player to retain his all-format contract due to his strong Test and T20I performances during the evaluation period.”
Mr. Harper added,

“There are several new players offered red ball contracts earned by their strong performances during the last period. A number of players were not retained because they did not meet the minimum requirements.”

You really believe all this is about fitness? If its about fitness, then why not being focus and immaturity are also used...btw how long after he failed that so called fitness test it was announced he passed the same test?

Heard him yesterday on the Mason show, he was reading from the CWI manual that he inherited.

Fix this up a little for you... use to be a fan of Roger but after he helped created division among cricket boards locally and Guyana cricket in a downward spiral, vendetta among those administrators in Guyana is now extended to the players like Hety and Permaul ...

Yes i do. Why do you think India is the no 1 side and is a conveyor belt for fast bowlers now

I have no fears for Hetmyer and his future .

There is too much brouh haha by his fellow Muddies. This will only make make an obviously very talented Hety more focused. He needed that

Overthrow 2021-05-14 12:15:51

Hety enjoys being on a cricket field. He has an infectious smile, enjoying the game as he plays. Sir Viv had his style Hety has his. Exceptionally talented batsman, very good in the field and appears to get along very well with others. I enjoy watching him play.

Kraigg poking in the English spring freezing him up, literally...imagining batting for 40 overs in the cold weather for a 30'something,you are frozen... Openenning called him so I expect a big score in his game starting 5/20...

I clearly remember when Sir Viv told Blackwood to keep on playing his natural game....Blackwood almost self destructed before he reversed that ....and now trying the mature approach with much success

So I see Viv is now giving Hety the mature advice wink

Not too old to learn Sir Viv....dem boys not genius like you were...dem natural game gets dem out early o'clock

Dukes calls on selectors to take a more mature approach to team selection.
Calls on them to be objective and put aside personal feelings and biases.
