With bed space running out for critically ill Covid-19 patients, Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley this afternoon announced the following Covid restrictions to reduce the spread of the virus.
From midnight tonight, T&T will be under a State of Emergency.
It involves a curfew will be from 9 p.m to 5a.m.

The prime minister’s announcements came after the country recorded its highest Covid-19 positive cases in recent days. The highest death toll was recorded on Thursday with 21 deaths in 24 hours. The Ministry of Health reported nine deaths on Friday, along with 565 new positive cases.
He said T&T had tried to avoid this eventuality, but had clearly failed.
“I’m sorry it has come to coffins and the faces of dead people, to realize that we have always been in a very difficult place.”

And epidemiologist Dr Avery Hinds said 43 of every 100 people being tested were now coming back with a positive result.

The field hospital at the Jean Pierre Complex in Port of Spain is being readied for a ribbon-cutting ceremony by Monday.
When the Express visited the Jean Pierre Complex yesterday, the six tents had been laid out. There was no evidence of medical activity.

The United States government has donated two field hospitals, each with a 40-bed capacity, to aid in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic. The other is set up outside the Couva Hospital.
The 40 beds include High Dependency and Intensive Care units.

Rowley failed to purchase vaccines from Pfizer earlier this year when an offer of 351,000 vaccines was put on the table for US$8.4 million.
Was Rowley waiting for 100,000 vaccines from China?
The Government asked the private sector and when Ansa McAl offered to foot the bill and pay for the entire Pfizer batch in exchange for a tax concession – the government refused. Rowley is now saying Pfizer vaccines were not available for purchase.

Principal Medical Officer: We're basically out of hospital beds
PRINCIPAL medical officer Dr Maryam Abdool-Richards has said the parallel healthcare system is "basically out of beds," saying beds are even having to be converted.She was speaking at a press conference at the Diplomatic Centre, St Ann's on Saturday afternoon.She said the parallel healthcare system's Intensive Care Unit (ICU) is at full occupancy, the High Dependency Unit (HDU) is at 95 per cent, while the ward-level is at 66 per cent capacity. In addition to this, 57 per cent of the beds at step-down facilities are filled.
She said hospital occupancy in Tobago is at 25 per cent, it is 78 per cent at the Caura Hospital, 71 per cent at the Couva Hospital, 85 per cent at the Arima Hospital, 90 per cent at the Augustus Long Hospital and 80 per cent at St Ann's.Richards said, "Today, I would like to let everyone know that in our previous conversations we have been speaking about ten days, five days and seven days to go before the beds are all occupied. It's no longer a five days. It has been touch and go for the last three to four days and all our beds are occupied."
She said the rate of infection continues to surpass the rate of discharges.

Can you tell me how they would even think about such a ceremony now ? And ribbons aren't cut for those sorta things..
