Jaleel Hyde and Natoya Goule won their heats... nice.

Olympic track and field...finally started..Yah

Are my eyes bad or Jamaica's outfit has a Guyana kind of green ?
And why do they persist with the sponsors logo 'over the heart' rather than the Jamaica flag ?
Is there an identity problem with that country ?

it does remind me of Guyana a lil bit
In reply to hubert
yes it looks odd.. i am glad i am not the only one that noticed that our outfits look off colour. the track is super fast... elaine jogged 10.82 and Talou just ran 10.78 looking around TWICE...shelly 10.84... i expect 10.65 in the semis..wow
In reply to TriniStar
Plenty bit
Ta Lou scorches 10.78 to win her heat. Elaine had 10.82 in hers. Lets see about Mama Rocket. This is 1st round ////wow
Mama Rocket V easy in 10.84..experience to the fore
In reply to hubert
i expect a 10.65 in the semis...this is off the charts so far. neithr Shelly Elaine Or talou let loose.. and i am sure in the semis asher smith is gonna bring it.
In reply to rudebway
Add to that the spike technology, that's the main reason for the improved times
In reply to rudebway
has been so consistent really hoping she gets a richly deserved medal and hope it by some means even miracle above bronze
Just when you thought that Eugen track was fast, this Tokyo track will make Eugene look slow
who? Talou?
Ahye won that last heat. Sherika didnt get out of 1st gear. This is gonna be epic. Elaine Asher Smith and Sherika chasing Shelly and Talou. Is the great white hope Daphne Schippers not competing?
as i feared, Dacres' injury limited him. didnt make the discus finals
talou ran the first round as if she was in the finals
In reply to rudebway
No Goule re the medal., As for Talou's experience should have told her to cool it a bit. Guess she's trying to lay down the gauntlet. You don't phase ppl. who have previously won Gold in 10.7-10.72 like that.

100% agree on both counts. Have been watching Goule from her days at champs. the 800 is never easy, but with the removal of the ..less dainty participants, i am hoping she can medal.
As for Talou, i assume it was adrenaline.
In reply to rudebway
Jamaica 3:11.76 third in their heat of the mixed mile relay behind winners Poland.
Into the final.
Portious Warren has qualified for the Shot Put final. Well done to the young athlete
In reply to mikesiva
junelle bromfield looks like she should be replaced. the USA got disqualified so the gold medal is up for grabs. i cant believe how weak our 400 meter runners are. i am afraid this is the team we are going to use in the finals. we have no 400 individual men entrants, so i assume we didnt rest anyone.
In reply to rudebway
Jamaican ladies have to save their energies, as they are forced to run 6 rounds of relay, plus their individual event, due to a lack of adequate number of runners sent to the olympics. The coaches are threatening to pull their stellar athletes out of the relays, for it would be too much stress on them, which would be ashame for Jamaica does not lack female sprinters, just call up the top 3 from the Girls High School Championship 100 meters finals, plus Junior World Champion Brianna, and they will be good enough to carry the relay to the semi-finals, then the stellar runners would take over from them.
In reply to problemjay
She did good for her first Olympics
Saw the video of her throw on Team T&T Link Text
With Miller doing the 400 and 200 some say she may be too tired for the 200.
But for the 400 she is the clear favourite to win the 400 especially with Naser not competing. Does not mean she will win but she is the favourite. Felix to me is beyond her prime and Mchpherson may be the only serious threat to her winning the Gold considering how Mcpherson has been running this year
In reply to mikesiva
I am not able to watch much .I am not even aware of schedules with the huge time difference.
I am relying on you as usual to post the relevant and valuable stuff
about the Caribbean athletes.
Thanks.
In reply to hubert
For Real. I check Mikesiva's updates before i even check TVJ.
He is a good Comrade.
In reply to Slipfeeler
ok..you are referencing Stephen Francis' rant in the gleaner. i understand the rules but thats not quite what i am saying in regards to the mixed relays.
and in regards to the 4 x 100, i dont have the time to google if the rules changed, but to my knowledge you can only switch 2 runners in a 4 x 1. So Brianna and 3 schoolers makes no sense. plus they wouldnt qualify.
the stars have to run the relays. But they are all doubling. and two are his, and Shelly used to be his, but isnt anymore. and i think the pool was reduced from six to five. the pool is Shelly, Elaine, Sherika, Brianna and Ramona Burchell. this is going to get dicey.
In reply to rudebway
Well lets watch the Olympics runnings, will be interesting to see how the relays will unfold.
In reply to TriniStar
What makes you feel Felix is "beyond her prime"? Is Shelly Ann beyond her prime? Both Shelly Ann and Allyson are months apart in age and they both had babies recently.
In reply to DukeStreet
Simply based on recent performances. Do I think Shelly is beyond her prime? Answer is simply "No!", in fact I think she is better now than ever before.
Dont know why you ASSume it has anything to do with age and went as far as to tell me they are close in age and have babies. I dont care about all of that
In reply to TriniStar
Bossman, I been following track for quite a while and am a former high school sprinter. I didn't assume shit. If you didn't know, Allyson has been improving in her times steadily, over time and should be ready for any of dem in Tokyo. Not saying she's gonna get Gold but don't under-estimate her. She's focusing on just one event (which she should have done previously in her career) but I think it will pay dividends.
In reply to nitro
He is invaluable as a contributor on this MB when it comes to Track and Field and keeping us dated .
Appreciate him much. Class act..that's Mikesiva
In reply to rudebway
The US team has been reinstated. The rules need to be adjusted in my opinion. Disqualification should be last resort. Athletes have been preparing for years for the Olympics and its unreasonable to disqualify them for relatively simple violations that do not affect the outcome of a race.
They should consider alternative penalties, like adding fractions of a second to your time depending on the infringement. For example, if you step out of your lane without impeding anyone , then one tenth of a second is added. If in a relay race the baton is passed outside the zone, then time is added. Something similar can be considered for false starters.
In reply to Slipfeeler
you post made me go look at the jamaican team and re-read Stephen Francis' interview. i dont know the latest rules on relay substitution, but i believe he said we need another sprinter for the relay.
looking at the team (sportsmax article),the "additional" sprinter is there. the 4 x 400 mixed relay team shows Kemba Nelson. she doesnt run 400. she is a sprinter. personal best is 10.98. i dont think she can run 200 meters much less 400. might be a strategy to hide her there and slot her in. i am curious if that is allowed. otherwise, if you have to use someone from an individual event, i doubt that our hurdlers are fast enough. this is gonna be interesting.
In reply to rudebway
I just heard that Morrison has been added to the team, not sure if she was already in Tokyo.
In reply to rudebway
'Genklemen' haven't listened to what Francis said but my understanding has always been that up to 3 members from the rounds can be replaced on a relay team in the finals. We have 6 '7 rrunners there. Even if Francis was to keep Shericka n Elaine out we can still medal
In reply to Brerzerk
Rhonda Whyte picked the 400 hurdles heats..geesh
In reply to TriniStar
You may recall that sometime ago when PJ posted her college performance I said there's potential but she had work to do. I also advised PJ to note her jump distance. She will be a better athlete in 3yrs.
In reply to rudebway
Yuh hear the BS reason given for US mixed relay reinstatement? So, if you go to work and your boss place you in the wrong place, job, project shouldn't you basic knowledge force you to ask him if this is where you're really supposed to be?
In reply to Brerzerk
its the US. did you expect otherwise? if you look at the replay on you tubee u have to shake your head... . you could see all the runners waiting to get the baton but her.. looks like she lost focus and drifted..
discussing it, now during the 800m heats, the american commentator on nbc just said if you mess up, blame somebody else..lol.
In reply to Brerzerk
saw your post about Okabare. Elaine's semi got a bit easier. a blessing in disguise.
In reply to Brerzerk
You have your athletes all mixed up and confused. Portious Warren and Tyra Gittens are different athletes
In reply to rudebway
no pun intended loll
In reply to problemjay\thanks for the correction
In reply to Brerzerk
Brittany Anderson won her hurdles heats...it only takes one mistake in the hurdles... we know that. Tapper looked nice too.. ran pb. 12.53. wow
In reply to rudebway
Elaine ...yes....clean sweep...
In reply to nitro and hubert
Thanks for your kind words.
It gives me great pleasure too.
If our medal target falls short, I am still happy because of the 1-2-3.
Maybe she will win bronze, maybe. I am a Felix fan just being realistic but we will see soon
In reply to Brerzerk
According to Team T&T we will get to see Tyra Gittens tonight in action.
And I agree will take her 3 years to be up there with the very best barring no serious injury. I believe her college success cannot be easily replicated in the same year in her first Olympics going up against pros for the first time. That will be asking too much from her.
400m heats tonight. Several Caribbean athletes in action
Big showdown in this event between Wade Van Niekerk vs Michael Norman vs Gardiner
Hoping to see the finals winner break 43 sec
Caribbean sprinters that progressed to men 400m semis
Steven Gardiner (he was impressive)
Chris Taylor
Kirani James
Deon Lendore
Jonathon Jones
Machel Cedenio
Dwight St Hillaire
In reply to TriniStar
Hoping to see the finals winner break 43 sec
In reply to hotarobin
we have two women in the hurdles, and Brittany Anderson looked good
hoping Jaleel Hyde can make the hurdles finals coming up
In reply to rudebway
Would love to sae him in the finaL.He can do it.
Oh heck ,tumbled out at 8th hurdle while leading.
In reply to hubert
you saw the triple jump WR?
Oh la la Link Text
In reply to rudebway
Yes. Followed it all as I was backing Ricketts,,but from the off,Rojas was a tigress
with a games marker and probably intimated others.
I was rooting for her too to be honest as her country,Venezuela has been under an
imperialistic pressure.
It seems like my hope/ prediction for a TNT showing in the 4×4 could be on track. RSa, Belgium n some others are great threats. If TNT digs deep a silver is possible
In reply to Brerzerk
Sherika looked sluggish in that heat..hope she is ok. finished 4th. probably will not advance
i cant believe Ivet Lalova is still running.
In reply to rudebway
Damn - Sherika is out - careless
In reply to Chrissy
23.26. the twins from edwin allen can do that.. i take it that was a mental lapse from Sherika. she never got out of neutral... i kept waiting for her to get going.. amazingly bad from her
the cospiracy theorist in me says...there is a way to enter her in the 400. otherwise i dont get it
well. assuming she is not injured...look on the bright side. if she runs the relay heats, all problems solved.
In reply to Brerzerk
Megan Tapper picks up a bronze.. now that was unexpected...hooray for her. yes yes yes...
I am going with either Kirani James or Steven Gardiner to win the final
Michael Norman has looked very average in every race since the US trials.
In reply to TriniStar
Cherry looks better than Norman. I am going Gardner, Cherry, Kirani
In reply to hubert
i noticed in the 200 heats we have Dwyer and Forte. Tracey and blake are out the games. do we even have a 4 x 100 team?
Nigel Ellis to Jevaughn Minzie to Rasheed Dwyer to Oblique Seville.
In reply to rudebway
What ? I just noticed that..SOS for Bolt
This is rough..It's all up to the Women.
In reply to rudebway
Ivet Lalova has great pedigree. Yuh forget both her parents were former standout sprinters?
In reply to DukeStreet
but how old is she? come on man... i thought she was retired. when did she start? 2000 or 2004?
speaking of which, Allison Felix just won her heat, Roneisha McGregor second
