At this year’s Hero Caribbean Premier League (CPL) the tournament will use the Kookaburra Smart Ball – powered by Sportcor. This revolutionary ball will be used in a professional league for the first time when Hero CPL gets underway in St Kitts & Nevis on 26 August 2021.
The Kookaburra Smart Ball looks, feels and plays exactly the same as a regular ball but there is a state-of-the-art core that registers many more data points than using radar or ball-tracking technology.
The ball sends back significant information on each delivery including the speed and spin of a ball at release, when it bounces, and when it reaches the batsman. This information is then delivered to the commentators in real-time. This will be graphically displayed for fans to enjoy during the live telecast.

Amazing but not surprising considering modern technology. Congrats to CPL for being the first cricket league to use the Kookaburra Smart Ball. Let's hope all goes well and there are no issues.

It might be an issue later, since the data would be stored on a computer foreign opposing teams in the future would just download the Data to be used on Caribbean players. The WI might stay at the bottom of the ratings forever. They already use Data now, it might just become more clinical.

I spoke to Kookaburra, the next iteration, Phase 2 of this project, will be completed next year in time for CPL. That ball, apart from current enhancements, will bowl itself with speeds up to 150 km/h, and allow spin torques up to 9 rps, rotations per second.
This will address the dearth of quality bowlers in the CPL.

Hacking could fetch a hefty fee...no turn , nice accommodating bounce and nothing above 125 K . Anyone ?
Or will a Smart Bat emerge soon ?

How about a Smart Umpire. They could build a robot to umpire the game and instant review would become obsolete. Not so sure bowlers would enjoy appealing to a machine though.
