sgtdjones 2021-07-31 14:13:46

Navin : "I live a minute away from the ground and it is bright and sunny, no worries about the weather today" See how do I know if this is true? Prove to me you live there. Go on

Michael: "Wonderful day for cricket in Guyana. No worries about rain today" Well they do say you should follow the two-source rule..

Yannick: "Navin is right, lol. I am in Guyana and this place hot, like hitting the first ball of the game for six. " Right, it seems like we a have a game then, folks.

sgtdjones 2021-07-31 14:20:18

Will it be Chris Gayle's day today? We've already seen three Jamaican superstars set the world alight at the Olympics, could we have a fourth here in Guyana?

West Indies have won the toss and have opted to field

Narper 2021-07-31 14:46:44

Two changes for the hosts. Lendl Simmons, who was felled by a sharp lifter from Mohammed Wasim(jr) misses out, he's replaced by Andre Fletcher.

Presume Andre Russell has just been rested, replaced by Romario Shephard.

One forced change for Pakistan. Azam Khan, who received a blow on his head and will miss the next two matches, has been replaced by Sohaib Maqsood.

this chap resting ah lot lol

sgtdjones 2021-07-31 14:57:31

Zionfras: "Is L.Simmons still injured from that hit he took last game or is this just the squad rotation again?" Yeah, that's what rules him out, Pollard confirmed.

Jos: "Guess they're giving R. Shepherd a run cause this is his home ground."

Asim Zafar: "I'd say a good toss to lose for Pakistan. A blessing in disguise! The wicket should play the same way in both innings and I guess the bowlers would dominate, so I'd say it's more important for the bowlers to know how to bowl on this wicket than the batsmen how to bat." Are you just parroting what Shan Masood said? smile

Sarath: "Is O.McCoy still injured ? He was mighty impressive vs Aus with his back-of-the-hand slower balls" I'm not sure, but with jostling for positions ahead of the World T20, I'm sure there's an element of experimentation, too. Might explain Andre Russell's absence as well.

West Indies win the toss, and Pollard opts to field first

West Indies: 1 Andre Fletcher 2 Evin Lewis 3 Chris Gayle 4 Shimron Hetmyer 5 Nicholas Pooran (wk) 6 Kieron Pollard (capt) 7 Jason Holder 8 Romario Shepherd 9 Dwayne Bravo 10 Haydn Walsh 11 Akeal Hosein

Pakistan: : 1 Mohammad Rizwan (wk) 2 Sharjeel Khan 3 Babar Azam (capt) 4 Fakhar Zaman 5 Mohammad Hafeez 6 Sohaib Maqsood 7 Shadab Khan 8 Hasan Ali 9 Mohammad Wasim 10 Usman Qadir 11 Shaheen Shah Afridi

Srik: "Will Pak continue to waste big hitting skills of F.Zaman by playing him at no.4/5 ??? He ain't middle order batsman " Possibly true, but in T20 cricket, inflexibility over batting positions is a liability in my opinion.

Narper 2021-07-31 15:00:21

Babar Azam -
He's a very good bowler (on Wasim Jr) and we are looking forward to him doing well. Familiar conditions for us, we know how the pitch plays. One change for us - Maqsood replaces Azam

Kieron Pollard -
We will bowl first. Early morning moisture, looking to exploit it well with the ball in hand. Happy that the fans are in, looking forward to giving a good account of ourselves. Two forced changes for us

Narper 2021-07-31 15:00:59

'It's hot and there's some breeze coming around towards the ground. It's a well prepared pitch, nice, hard and firm. The bounce will be low and will be less on pace as well. The spinners would like to bowl here. Toss might not matter a lot,' reckons Colin Croft, in his pitch report.

Narper 2021-07-31 15:02:34

Hasan Ali:
In rain affected games the batters have no fear. So I thought they are going to hit me, I will bowl the slower ball first ball (to Evin Lewis) and we succeeded. I am really happy to get the milestone (50 T20I wickets).

I am feeling proud. I did the extra yards in the net. I am focusing on my batting, want to be a good all-rounders in all formats. I have played a few CPL games here. Had a good time in my previous tours as well. We want to perform as a bowling unit. We focus on variations. We will look to restrict them under 150-160.

Akeal Hosein to Rizwan, 1 run, the arm-ball from Akeal, Rizwan backs away and punches it to long-on for a single
0.2

Narper 2021-07-31 15:09:35

1.6
Holder to Sharjeel Khan, FOUR, cracking shot, too full from Holder - Sharjeel gets right underneath the length, once again brings the bottom-hand into play and clears mid-on with ease, runs away to the ropes

Narper 2021-07-31 15:13:12

2.4
Akeal Hosein to Rizwan, no ball, SIX, back-to-back sixes for Rizwan, comes down the pitch, doesn't get too close to the ball - played with the angle and hoists it over long-off for a maximum. He's looking very impressive once again. Worse for Akeal, he has overstepped and Rizwan will get a free-hit next ball

Narper 2021-07-31 15:14:23

2.4
Akeal Hosein to Rizwan, no run, Rizwan runs down the pitch, gets too close to the ball as it was darted quicker by Akeal - drags an inside edge to square leg

Gayle to Sharjeel Khan, wide, another quicker delivery from Gayle, but he fires it down leg, called as a wide
3.3
Gayle to Sharjeel Khan, wide, Gayle pushes one full and down leg, called as a wide
3.3
Gayle to Sharjeel Khan, 1 run, almost a one-handed stunner from Pollard, but would go down as a chance. Flatter and wide of off, Sharjeel backed away and slapped it uppishly - Pollard leaped with hisw right-hand but can only palm it away

Jason Holder [1.0-0-8-0] is back into the attack
4.1

W
Holder to Sharjeel, OUT
Hit uppishly and straight to mid on! Full, on middle, looks to hammer it over the infield, but it's come off the toe-end of the bat. A fist pump for Holder, and Sharjeel is gone for a 16-ball 20.

Holder to Sharjeel Khan, out Caught by Akeal Hosein!! Good comeback from Holder - pushed this one further up around middle, Sharjeel wasn't fully forward on the drive, wasn't committed to the shot either - just a half-hearted check-punch, didn't bother to keep it down and offers a dolly to Akeal, who clasps onto it with glee. Much needed for the hosts, after that rollicking start

Akeal Hosein to Babar Azam, no run, that's a ripper and Pooran is quick to break the wickets, but don't think Babar has gone anywhere. The third umpire has a look, no edge and Ultra Edge confirms it, now onto the stumpsing - but Babar is safely inside the creaee. NOT OUT on both counts. Hayden Walsh to Babar Azam, out Rizwan Run Out!! 1 run completed. That is magical stuff from Evin Lewis. Just had one stump to aim at and he's smashed the bullseye. Rizwan had no chance, even if he had opted to go on a skateboard, would have still found himself short of the crease. Babar's pushed this into the mid-wicket pocket and the duo were determined to complete the second from the onset. Lewis storms in from the deep and pings the stumps on the half-volley despite Hayden Walsh's needless palm-poke at the last second. Rizwan did put in a dive but was nowhere in the frame. There was never a second there.

Jason Holder [2.0-0-16-1] is back into the attack

West Indies review: Holder thinks he's got his man and he looks pretty confident. Fair delivery and the front-on spin-vision shows that the ball is close to the bat. UltraEdge shows a tiny spike but it looks to be off the bat hitting the ground

16.1
Holder to Babar Azam, out Caught by Pooran!! The break in play has clearly taken the momentum out of Pakistan. Their set batsman is out first ball and it will surely have some impact as we head into the final phase of the innings. It was full and wide from Holder, Babar didn't use any feet, just poked late and did that with a slightly angled bat

Bravo to Shadab, 1 run, OUT
Magnificent from Bravo. Another yorked squeezed back down the ground. Shadab scuttled back for two, but the keeper whipped the bails off just in time so they'll only get one for that. Pakistan finish with 157 and it's West Indies on top at the halfway mark

Holder says this is a really good wicket but has something in it for the spinners. Calls it a par score.

Had the innings wrapped up at the rain break at 16 overs, WI would have had to chase 158 in 16. As it is, they need that same total in the full 20.

Andre Fletcher and Lewis are at the crease.

Andre Fletcher is on strike.

Hafeez will open the attack

0.2
Hafeez to Andre Fletcher, out Bowled!! Babar Azam has mentioned it many-a-times that Hafeez's role with the bowling is subject to behaviour of the surface and looks like this is one for the senior pro. Just enough nibble of the surface and the deep-rooted Fletcher couldn't get his bat in line with this skiddy offbreak, past the outside edge and smashes the top of off

PLAYER OF THE MATCH
Mohammad Hafeez

Mohammad Hafeez | Player of the Match -
I would love it, we had a score on the board, we knew it would be tough to score against spinners. We bowled well, myself and Shadab and then the pacers executed the yorkers well. Being here many times (having played CPL), I knew if I do the basics well, hit the right lines, executed the skills and that worked for me. A little more comfortable when I bowl to the left-handers, but it's still important to hit the right areas.

Narper 2021-07-31 20:24:03

Kieron Pollard | West Indies skipper:
Thought 170-180 would have been too much and the way the guys came back in the last 10 overs with the ball and be consistent in that part of the game, was good. There was moisture and swing, grip for the bowlers, they (Pakistan) used the angles and used the wicket a lot more. Those Hafeez 4 overs for about 5 or 6 runs and you look back at that and say that we could have knocked a few singles here and there. Having said that the guys really fought through and yes we came out on the losing end but the fight we kept through, that was impressive. The way they (Pakistan) manoeuvred their leg-spinners. I thought it was well done by them and then we had to explode towards the end. There are somethings we see there (during the chase) and we will continue to improve on that. Will have a lot of intense discussions and try and put your foot forward each and every time. It's all about improvement. For us, someone has to win and someone has to lose and yes we ended up on the losing end today but, all hope is not lost.
