Back in the 1970s Chester was known for academic prowess..not so much for sports and track and field in particular
Then two long distance runners - Lionel Scott and a man nicknamed Freshair, lit up champs and caused a veritable national holiday in the town of Mandeville
..
Sadly Freshair later fell victim to mental illness
not sure what became of Scott
Elaine Thompson(whose parents were probably toddlers at the time) is standing on the shoulders of giants

You mentioned two, was the other Bryan (800m)?
In reply to JoeGrine
Name rings a bell..but cant remember
who remembers a girl from from up Bellfied named Gotshok or something of the sort went to Vere, people thought she would be the next Ottey?
In reply to FanAttick
It was Bryan, he won the 800m in 1980 upsetting the cocky KC half-miler.

Maureen Gottshalk was not thought of as the next Ottey as she was one of the Champs sprint star (along with Dorothy "Mule Train" Scott of Vere and Carmeta Drummond of StATHS) that came just before Ottey.

William Bryan if I am recalling correctly. He dipped at the line in the Class 1 800 to beat a celebrating Byron "Bugga" Francis of KC.
