Today Lionel Scott and Freshair are on my mind

Back in the 1970s ‘Chester was known for academic prowess..not so much for sports and track and field in particular…
Then two long distance runners - Lionel Scott and a man nicknamed “Freshair”, lit up champs and caused a veritable national holiday in the town of Mandeville…..

Sadly Freshair later fell victim to mental illness…not sure what became of Scott…

Elaine Thompson(whose parents were probably toddlers at the time) is standing on the shoulders of giants…

Cant recall that…he spent a fair amount of time at Chester….in those days Chester didn’t buy athletes like some schools

It was Bryan, he won the 800m in 1980 upsetting the cocky KC half-miler.

Maureen Gottshalk was not thought of as the next Ottey as she was one of the Champs sprint star (along with Dorothy "Mule Train" Scott of Vere and Carmeta Drummond of StATHS) that came just before Ottey.

Ok…I was thinking 70s…I’m trying to remember Bryan’s first name…drawing a blank
Somehow I’m thinking it was Cleve Bryan…not 100% sure

William Bryan if I am recalling correctly. He dipped at the line in the Class 1 800 to beat a celebrating Byron "Bugga" Francis of KC.

More here…fascinating story

You Have His Eyes" chronicles the search for Lionel Scott, A Jamaican track runner and national record holder, who abruptly disappeared one day from existence. The story opens with a captivating personal confession from estranged birth mother to son. Heart warming as much as it is shocking, Neomi's account of her son's adoption is an empowering story about perseverance, sacrifice, resilience and above all love. "[Director Christopher] Wilson has used his skills to reveal a haunting story of love, mystery, and pain. By the time you reach the end of his escapade, your emotions are highly charged, filled with anticipation and hope. Wilson does not disappoint." (Emmy award winning journalist JC Hayward).
