The only reason why Gayle is selected is because the cupboard is bare. We just lack quality batsmen at this level and we have to face it.
Yes we did ok against Australia but they were well below full strength. Pakistan however are at full strength..and we can see how our batsmen are struggling.

At this point, I would take Blackwood or Mayers over Gayle. Blackwood for his ability to take singles and his fielding; Mayers for his clean striking and ability as a bowler.

Gayle usually takes his time and then transitions to ball beating. Only problem now is that he gets out before or while transitioning to attacking mode.
I still think Gayle can win us one or two matches, and that is more than I can say for most of our batsmen

we won last time from these matchwinning innings, Gayle, Charles, Fletcher,Simmons, Marlon/Carlos if each one of Hetty, Pooran, Gayle,Simmons, Lewis cannot win one of six or so matches along with the supporting cast then we do not even deserve to go.

Lewis and Simmo don’t run no singles and turn over no strike anyway... unlike Pooran and Hetmyer and Holder.
So it’s not affecting anyone if he bats up top... Won’t eat too many dot balls deep into the middle overs.

They need to open the batting with Gayle today.. the Fletcher thing at the top ain't working out. Hetmyer nd Pooran need to bat at 3 and 4. If Russell is fit he comes in for Shepherd and Sinclair replaces Hosein.

He asked to play in any role. He was successful at the IPL at 3 so why the sudden drop in form at 3?
Gayle for himself should step down. He is a liability in the field and the bat.
Let another younger player take his place. We have younger players WHO are brilliant fielders and can bowl and hold their end with the bat.
