HEADLINE: Rutherford, Narine among players ineligible for Windies World Cup squad selection for failing fitness tests

In-form batsman Sherfane Rutherford and spinner Sunil Narine were among a few players not eligible for selection to the World Cup squad after failing fitness standards, chief of selectors Roger Harper has confirmed.

In the ongoing Caribbean Premier League (CPL), Rutherford has been one of the most outstanding players so far, scoring 201 runs in 7 matches, with an average of 40.20 and a strike rate of 136.73.  Speculation had linked the player with a late consideration for a space in the West Indies World Cup squad but, as it has for other players in the recent past, it turns out his fitness level was an issue.

“As well as he has been performing he is one of a few players who did not meet our fitness criteria, so he was not eligible for selection,” Harper told members of the media, in explaining the player’s omission.

The fitness criteria such as the yo yo tests etc and exemptions for some gives one the feeling that it is being administered unfairly. That may be unintentional but the optics are bad.

Harper full a crap! Same as his excuse for leaving out Holder. He selected Darren Bravo wtf!!

The real Narine was left out … he would be under the microscope of the ICC for his alleged pelting
He is too good of a game changer to be left out, probably the best in the world

Sherfane Rutherford and spinner Sunil Narine, and Jason Holder

are very eligible for T10 and T20 leagues around the world tho.

Who gives half a hoot about Harper, Coach Simmons, the CPL and all of that?

As it is, the CPL is virtually dead this season, and will struggle to recover its fan base next year. WI cricket too will be struggling to keep its dwindling fan bas after a sound cutarse at the World Cup.

Word out was he had it easy guess age etc factored in and Harper said the “team” wanted him. The policy seems to have different criteria for selection based on numerous factors, that created distrust and some feel it is not fair.

Narine very happy. Anything to prevent him from playing for a chaotic West Indies

He will take that failed fitness pass any day lol

He is making more money than most of them via the IPL and TKR

Why you crying for a player to play for a team who seems to not want to play for the same team? This makes no sense to any sensible person. Furthermore the team should not be dependent on one or few players for success

Also WI is not his country #facts
