The Koran and women

Alan 2021-09-18 06:26:16

Does the Koran actually encourage sexist discrimination against women?Or is the Taliban making stuff up?.That said the way women were mistreated during the horrors of the last Taliban government of 1990s Afghanistan was identical to harsh regimes like Saudi Arabia in the Arab Middle East. And yet in secular Turkey another Muslim country there does not appear to be any sexist discrimination. So we "infidels" are somewhat confused watchers. What does the Koran actually say? Any "believers" on this forum who can enlighten us?

Does The Jewish Torah and old testament bible says an eye for an eye and women on menstrual cycle must be banished? Do 99% of Jees and Christian's practice that? There's your answer re The Koran

The Christian Bible both old testament (jewish)and New Testament (Christianity) portrays women very negatively too.For example Eve is seen as the reason for all the things that has gone wrong in the world since the fairy tale of the Garden of Eden. Not too many people in the modern world believe all that rubbish. Is this what you are alluding to?...But my question friend has not been answered not having read the Koran. Are there passages in the Koran which discriminates against women?...I would have preferred an answer from one of the Muslim faith who has actually read it.You havent.

No. For reference, read some of the non religious, non Muslim western scholars whose research you will find very surprising. They point out that Islam was the first religious movement that categorically gave women, what we call today, "equal and defined rights"

What people get confuse with is so many Muslim majority countries treat their women badly so its normal for people to associate Islam with poor treatment of women.

But these Muslim majority countries follow their pre-Islamic, ancient cultural and tribal customs and norms in defiance of Islamic virtues.

So the Taliban and the conservative governments in the Middle East got it wrong.I couldnt possibly understand how a holy book would promote something so horrendous as any form of discrimination.

I do not like to delve/discuss religion..however when I observe ignorance and lack of knowledge I am obliged to say something.
The big problem is many making statements and not going to the source.
We were exposed to Islam,Christianity(and its various branches) hinduism but not judaism whilst growing up.
We have a knowledge of what is in the texts/teachings of those religions.
It will do you well to read/google about women in the quran...
Now Talibanism and treatment of women...Quran was revealed in what year???
Taliban came to fore in what year???
I am not gonna get into it with you...
Cultural practices evolve over years..and differ from region/country to region/country.
Your touting these practices as religious is ignorant.
It does not matter what religion you belong to..but its important to understand the others before running your mouth.
WE CAN ALL LEARN SOMETHING>>IF WE ARE WILLING TO DO SO>

The Koran is the only true holy book and the Muslim faith is the only true faith. All non-believers are infidels.
Asking questions like the one you did can legitimately lead to a fatwah against you.

There are no Islamic governments in the Middle East, but there are tribal and cultural conservatives.

Perhaps Iran, arguably the most advanced democracy in the region, has many Shia Islamic percepts in their constitution.

After I answered your question, you still make this statement? And I only answered b/c you told poster Bererzerk, this
"I would have preferred an answer from one of the Muslim faith who has actually read it.You havent.

So here's where I will end the dialogue as it seems you didn't get the answer you like, you continue . Carry on

Critical Thinking, The Jewish and Christian Holy Books' laws say discriminate against women and advise extreme violent measures to settle disputes but its adherents do not so do. Therefore if the Koran happen to say similar things and The Taliban practice such the problem wouldn't be the Holy Book but the Taliban. That was my answer. One doesn't have to read either book to see the obvious.

You need to go check that again and stop conflate the sinful practices of men and what the bible actually says about women or how one treat their spouse. As in actuality, it is the faithful teachings of the Christian faith that elevated the rights of women, from the traditional position as property. Where did one man, one wife come from. Husbands love your wife. But as everything else, sinful man take Gods word and do their own thing.
