DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (CMC) — Pressure continued to mount on out of form superstar Chris Gayle after yet another failure yesterday during West Indies' seven-wicket defeat to Pakistan in their first official warm-up ahead of next weekend's start of the Twenty20 World Cup group stage.
The Caribbean side mustered only 130 for seven off their 20 overs, with Shimron Hetmyer top-scoring with 28 and Captain Kieron Pollard getting 12, while the 42-year-old Gayle scraped 20 from 30 deliveries.
In reply, Pakistan easily chased down the paltry target at the ICC Academy with 27 balls to spare. The run chase was spearheaded by Captain Babar Azam who stroked exactly 50 off 41 deliveries while Fakhar Zaman hit an unbeaten 46 from 24.
Gayle, whose place in the side has been questioned due to his wretched average of 17 in T20 Internationals this year, failed to change any minds, counting two fours before going bowled by fast bowler Haris Rauf (2-32) in the 14th over with only 63 runs on the board.

These fellas dont understand the impact of scoring rate in T20. Because Gayle used up 5 overs to score 20 runs, the other batsmen had no other choice but to go high risk!

Interesting how so many people here actually want Gayle to fail.

No... its not "so many."
I know who they are. I can count them. You can depend on them to continue their attacks.

Was that the player who contributed a grand total of
8 runs and
1 wicket for the entire T20 World Cup - but was nonetheless was sure pick,as captain, even it meant we had to virtually play every game one short!

Ah still dont get it.What is a 42 year old man doing playing international cricket? Universe Boss must be the oldest grandad playing in dee tournament.Blocking young talent coming through. That says a lot about the idiots running West Indies cricket.Simmons and co.Gayle was great fun and a legend in all formats. But its time to move on.

If the #3 is out for 20 of a total of 63 in the 14th over why isn't the main subject of the story the dismal failure of the whole damned team? Enough of making Gayle the story. Some will say if he made a ton I'd say different but Journalism is about more than grabbing headlines

It is not! In fact it is BS and a lack of either objectivity or an understanding of the game. The
#1 made 18 @ 78 S/R
#2 2 @ 33
#4 9 @ 69 and all being out before the 10th over.
In another scenario, another team, another player, another writer we wouldn't be surprised to see an article praising 20 from 30 as a fighting knock in an effort to stabilize the inning. Critical Thinking can die when men volunteer it to death.
