The Afghanistan conundrum

conman 2021-10-20 17:41:04

The Taliban has beheaded a female volleyball player Mahjabin Hakimi

They have made it clear that women cannot play sport or you will die

A country with that kind of thinking has no business rubbing shoulders with the rest of the civilized world

For a team that has overcome so much and showed the world some incredible players in a little over a decade, sadly, its time to ban Afghanistan

In light of a beheading of a woman a ban should be a must yes. Knowing Int'l sports organizations they'll go through a whole rigmarole to arrive at the 'truth' first.

That is truly disgusting.I did say in the backroom that those barbarians have got to change and drag themseles into the 21st century.Or they cannot interract with the rest of the international community.Yes..its their country.I get that argument. But the Taliban must learn to behave.

This act along proves they have no ability to be civilized

As much problems that world cricket has had with cricket Australia, their moral stance to not play their scheduled test next month

The rest of the cricket fraternity needs to take that stance

Rubbing shoulders with Afghanistan has no upside, it just benefits and legitimizes their stances

I remember the Apartheid years in relation to a different kind of discrimination...racial institutionalised discrimination.South Africa was isolated. But with regards to the Afghan sportsmen and women representing Afghanistan what circumstances are they are doing so now ? They may be playing sports having been refugees in other countries.Should they be blamed and banned for atrocities by the now Taliban govt?

West Indies should be front and centre in seeing that a ban is effected against Afghanistan....BUT guess what
They are not South Africa of apartheid era and guess what...they played Afghanistan today and goe butt whipped in a prqactice game.
They have no shame, west Indies , that is.

And my country of birth is silent..after all they treat women with little respect,,politican recently beat his 'wife' with a chair ? and its all over social media
and he is still in the House Of Representatives.

As soon as this Afghanistan government came to power , and announced their policy against women in sports etc, only Australia took a stand.
For a country founded as a convict colony, the descendants are certainly showing up other socalled 'good' boys. Respct OZ.
It is no too late to kick Afghanistan out of this WC and send a clear message to everyone ,especially the women of the world.

The Women’s Arm of the United National Congress (UNC), has taken Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley to task, following recent statements he made concerning the Opposition Leader’s move to have a tribunal set up to determine whether the President should be removed from office.According to the UNC Women’s Arm, the Prime Minister’s comments against Mrs Persad-Bissessar amount to “verbal abuse”, and he is acting the hypocrite when not long after those statements, he reportedly urged women to "stand up and support their female counterparts instead of bringing each other down".

UNC WOMEN’S ARM CONDEMNS PRIME MINISTER KEITH ROWLEY’S VIOLENT AND DEGRADING LANGUAGE AGAINST WOMEN AND CALLS OUT HIS HYPOCRISY

The UNC National Women's Arm notes with disgust that hours after criticising Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar for filing a motion under Section 36 of the Constitution for the establishment of a tribunal to investigate and potentially remove President Paula-Mae Weekes from office over the Police Commissioner appointment imbroglio, Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley urged women to "stand up and support their female counterparts instead of bringing each other down".

There is a culture of impunity, of accepting violent and degrading language against women, and an entire structure of power that supports that! The Prime Minister Keith Rowley is the perfect example of that!

The Prime Minister in his most derogatory and race-baiting performance in the presence of the Media has clearly signalled that he has given permission to use that language against his wife, his daughters, women in his community, and the UNC National Women's Arm is here to stand up to say that is not ACCEPTABLE!We stand with all women who have experienced verbal abuse not just once, but since they were little girls by men such as the Prime Minister! This behaviour by Keith Rowley and so many others will not be tolerated! All women deserve respect and fundamental equality. Period!

But are the Afghan cricketers who may be among the diaspora abroad be banned by the ICC...they may not even be in the country.Should they be banned and blamed for what is happening in Afghanistan? They may likely be opponents of the regime and fled. The situation is different to South African Apartheid situation.

hubert 2021-10-21 11:13:44

How is it different really. Action was taken by governments and the ICC against the SA regime and banned them. The cricketers plied their
trade all over but not as SOUTH AFRICA . Same should be meted out to the Afghanistan Regime and they should not be recognized as as part of
the cricket society

It's about the Country it should not be accepted in the world community until it becomes decent.
Individual cricketers can and will find a life in cricket in the same way the South africans did, becoming citizens in places such
as Australia and mainly England and prospered too.
I don't know if I can make it understandable for you.

Larr Pullo 2021-10-21 11:36:58

I'm 1000 percent on board with this.

conman 2021-10-21 16:33:16

Now there are reports that the rest of the team are on the run living in fear, if they already havent been killed.

Ban this team

Good Article on sports and the taliban

Should the ICC ban Australia?

Their continuing atrocity against the native people who they replaced is still ongoing. Is this worse than the native Taliban taking control of their native country with the support of the majority of their native Pashtun people?

However you feel about their philosophy, you must remember the majority of "Afghanis" are Pashtuns and so are the the Taliban. For thousands of years they stick together and they never accepted outsiders.

So don't let the western media narrative fool you.

conman 2021-10-22 12:51:10

In reply to Emir

They just beheaded a woman because she played a sport

However you feel about their philosophy,

what is wrong with you???

They even took away a team from world cricket just b/c of their "philosophy" that women should not play sport

googley 2021-10-22 13:26:52

In reply to Emir

so because Australia's treatment of their native people, are you suggesting that the treatment of women in Afghanistan should be overlooked?

Seriously?

hubert 2021-10-22 13:38:12

In reply to Emir
Should your questions be answered ?
I don't ususally respond to fools. but I will make an exception in your case.
No. go figure out why .

Australia at least rwecognized their error unlike other countries who continue to perpetrate callousness against their
own people and especially women. Beheading ?....Try putting your head on a block and get back to me.
Australia is the only country within the cricket community that has taken more than a principled and correct stance.

How about Trinidad ? Do they with the captain of West Indies team being a Trini, share the Afghanistan's Regime plans and philosophy ?
You obviously do...now kerry your skunt.

No, not at all and I hate this group, but I wanted to show the poster you ignore one and go after the other, just be consistent. The other thing is you want to punish the Taliban but how would that help the people, the Taliban couldn't care less, but the people who will be punished

i dont know if you are aware, but they are being punished regardless, you know beheadings and all

The Taliban needs cricket more than cricket needs the Taliban, "the taliban has a international team" sounds better to them than "because of the taliban there is no international team"
