South Africa's Quinton de Kock opted out of Tuesday's T20 World Cup game against West Indies as he refused to take the knee.

Cricket South Africa (CSA) initially revealed De Kock was unavailable for South Africa's Group 1 match at Dubai International Stadium for "personal reasons".

CSA has now confirmed former captain De Kock refused to go along with the order.

A CSA statement said: "Cricket South Africa has noted the personal decision by South African wicketkeeper Quinton de Kock not to take the knee ahead of Tuesday's game against the West Indies.

"All players had been required, in line with a directive of the CSA board on Monday evening, to take the knee in a united and consistent stance against racism

"This is also the global gesture against racism that has been adopted by sportspeople across sporting codes because they recognize the power of sport to bring people together."

Taking knee is symbolic....not necessarily it means all those players, who do take part are not racist.......forcing somebody to do something "symbolic"....in my humble opinion, infringement of personal liberty....the decision by CSA was politically motivated.... playing to the gallery to garner home support for future elections.....

The Z team showed them up when they all took the knee. It looked odd,two mainly white teams with a huge difference in The Present
and not too disimilar in years gone by.Not good optics.

People are ignoring that the SA team had the options of taking the knee, raising a fist or simply standing at attention to support/respect the issue. de Kock apparently did none of the 3 and worse, at a time when South Africa are going through a process of reviewing how non white players were marginalized within the team, to see the lack of consistency was poor.

It is amazing how accommodating people can be when others are standing for the rights of a white South African not to acknowledge racism

Well that strategy worked for them because it’s his last minute replacement that helped take the game away from us. But no one should be forced to go on their knee. Going on the knee symbolizes a form of worship to God and hence, not even God forces us to take any knee

Some folks seem to have forgotten that CSA recently held an inquiry in the aftermath of Black Lives Matter, which revealed that many players of colour experienced racism in post-apartheid South African cricket teams. That included Ntini, Paul Adams, and Prince, among others.

When South Africans take the knee, it's partly to acknowledge that racism their former colleagues suffered, and to say, "Never again".

If de Kock refuses to take part in that acknowledgement, he should have no part in a future SA team. Even Boucher has apologised for his part in the racism directed at Adams.
