West Indies batting great Brian Lara does not believe it would be a good idea to drop an out of form Chris Gayle at this point, despite the player’s struggles at the T20 World Cup thus far.
The 42-year-old batsman has faced heavy scrutiny in recent weeks and has managed just a total of 25 runs in two heavy losses for the Windies at the tournament so far. The storm of criticism surrounding the batsman, however, extends beyond that.
Despite that, however, Lara, considered one of the game’s greatest ever batsmen, believes the player could still have a role to play in the team and should remain a part of the line-up at this point in time.
"Chris Gayle is already in the World Cup and his experience and the fact that he can pass on something to the younger players is key,” Lara said recently on Star Sports.

Not in the starting XI doesn't mean he would be sent home immediately.
MS Dhoni is there with the Indian team as a mentor...and he is not even in the squad.
I say if Gayle is not going to open, he should not be in the starting XI...and yes mentor the lads in real time in the pavilion...on the field its all Pouty

WTF is this sentimental bullshit? Either he can play or he can't. right now he can't so he has to be dropped. Has everyone forgotten about Gayle laughing at Jimmy Adams in England when Jimmy couldn't bat anymore? Sports is unforgiving, and there shouldn't be any room for sentiments if you want to win.

Wow thats what we needed to hear and while I am happy, I wish Lara had said that a week before the first match against England. When we have people we respect and call Sir going after our players on the eve of a World Cup, what do we expect? I believe it our critters especially the war Sir Ambrose started with Gayle that caused the poor show of the West Indies. You could see the distraction on every side. Now you guys curse me out as much as you want

Not dropping Gayle does not mean he has to be in the starting XI. Some in here need to read the Prince statement carefully

Waste of time for west indies to be tagging along with Gayle at his age and form .

Whoever plays next game it does not matter at this point. WI has to have a winning TEAM performance to succeed. We need a bunch of batsmen to lick big runs in this lick it form of cricket

Gayle should not have been picked in the first place. His good record belongs to the past.West Indies selectors are cricket's dumbest. They are only interested in the short term. Not the FUTURE of West Indies cricket.Name me one other team in this tournament that has a 42 year old "grandad" playing? Even though he is a "grandad" a country admires for PAST accomplishments?

Foolishness!
Ambrose started no war with Gayle so don't blame him for the predictably poor showing of the West Indies, given the composition of the team.
Gayle should have retired, with a modicum of dignity, about 5 years ago. His continued presence in the squad is more about his self-serving egotism than what is good for West Indies team, at this time.
What Ambrose said was a fair assessment of Gayle's talent at this, the twilight of his career. If Gayle, the self-styled "Universe Boss", is going to be so thin-skinned and truculent, that is all his fault and not that of Ambrose.
West Indies cricket is bigger than Christopher Gayle. It was here before he got here and will be around long after he is gone.

Gayle is the Donald Trump of West Indies cricket. Everybody is afraid of Gayle, just like Republicans are afraid of Trump.
