Peter Philpott, former Australian spinner, has passed away at the age of 86 following a prolonged battle with illness. Philpott made his debut for Australia against West Indies in 1965. After picking up 18 wickets in the series, the wrist spinner went on to pick up a fifer on home debut against England in the first Ashes Test in 1965.

"With the deaths of Peter Philpott, Alan Davidson and Ashley Mallett, this has been an extraordinarily sad few days for Australian cricket. We share our thoughts with all those across the world who are both mourning the loss and celebrating the lives of three men who had such an uplifting influence on the game of cricket."

My first test match=Yours as well.
I saw the Colts match=Camacho 157 and my Spanish teacher Horton Dolphin 61
First class match=Butcher 157 and Camacho promoted to Guyana team
Test match=Sir Lancelot 6-29
Those were the glory days.
Actually Philpott took a lot of wickets in all 3 matches if my memory serves me correct.
RIP Peter Philpott.

I saw the greatest innings of my life, (104 no ret hurt) by old man of age 40 plus, he destroyed Hawke, Mckenzie , Connolly and Philpott.
He Hooked, he pulled,he square drived, he on- drived,he flick drived, he cover drived and played his favorite cut. what an innings by Sir Everton.
Arthur Bethell (jacobs grand dad) made 180 in the Colts match along with Weekes who came out of retirement to lead the colts. Our colts teams were very strong back then.
RIP sir Everton , RIP Peter Philpott.

SCORECARDS - 1964-1965 West Indies v. Australia - Test Series
History records WI crowned unofficial world champions for the first time after edging Oz in hard fought 64/65 series
It was series which probably inspired Sparrow's classic ditty "Who is the greatest cricketer on earth or Mars?"
Openning, Dukes, Hubert?

CORRECT.
I lived very near to Bourda. You could see it from my house(Unlike Sarah Palin) and people would line up from 3 AM(When India toured in 1971)
My cousin was a classmate of Horton Dolphin. In the 1963-64 school year those two opened the batting for Queen's College.Going to see Horton Dolphin play against the Australians was sweet.Interestingly the captain of the British Guiana Colts was Stephen Camacho who had just left St. Stanislaus and was a contemporary of both QC chaps.
Looking back what is noticeable is that the top boys schools in those days produced top rate cricketers but today all the schools are co-ed and none of them produce top class cricketers since everybody beating book 24/7 and getting 20 grade 1's and do not go near the cricket or for that matter any sports field. What a pity.
