brians_da_best 2021-11-04 19:54:24

In reply to Larr Pullo

Powell should have been there, given he's played a lot in Sri Lanka.

Would have been good to have Joseph too

doosra 2021-11-04 19:57:22

In reply to brians_da_best

Powell looks like he has maxed out

conman 2021-11-04 19:57:24

Shame no alzari, he and angel are the only ones with real pace and he picked up a 4fer in the warm up

doosra 2021-11-04 19:59:33

In reply to conman

Alzari looks so off in the Jamaica test

Seales
Gabriel
Holder
Roach

is not a bad attack

perhaps 2 seams + 2 spinners on dem lanka lowies

conman 2021-11-04 20:05:07

In reply to doosra

He did, i still believe there is value in alzari, hope he can be a reserve in the very least

velo 2021-11-04 20:05:30

why do you need three specialists spinners when you have chase already ?

doosra 2021-11-04 20:06:55

In reply to conman

me too but he needs fc cricket to learn to bowl test match stuff

doosra 2021-11-04 20:07:10

In reply to velo

Chase is still part time

conman 2021-11-04 20:12:36

In reply to velo

watched an interview with warrican and the man made an interesting point

when him and cornwall bowl together they have never lost a series

TheTrail 2021-11-04 20:14:01

No Chemar Holder in the squad?

imusic 2021-11-04 20:24:59

How did Soloxano and Gabriel make that squad? confused

Happy for Permaul that he made it. Overdue recognition for his regional exploits

VERY ODD that Brooks isn’t in the squad. Like seriously……Solozano ahead of Brooks?

I know Soloxano supposed to be an opener…..but Damn! The thought of Paint AND Solozano opening the batting???

This team looks well short in the batting department.

Also….as much as AlJo has had disappointing returns….I still feel they could persevere with him or Chemar Holder….who as far as I’m aware, hasn’t done anything wrong since his debut appearance in NZ.

Oh well.

dayne 2021-11-04 20:33:48

It's hard to understand the direction the Selectors are taking WI cricket, but at this stage, why select Gabriel over Joseph, will Gabriel survive the tour without being hurt at some time of the tour? Why Permaul and Warrican, it should be one or the other, Chase is just as effective as the best specialist spinner on the team.

Drapsey 2021-11-04 20:42:00

In reply to Larr Pullo

Only one Muddie?

BS!

Logic 2021-11-04 20:45:22

Brooks like he getting punished 100 times over for skipping the Bangla tour. The last Best vs Best series before this recent one he made a century and peeps said it didnt mean squat. Now Solozano in on the back of a one off half century.

And Gabriel over Joseph or even McSween? WTF.

Anyway happy to see Permaul get recognised for keeping at it. Though I think its time for room to be made for young Motie, you cant fault Permaul for effort

Still want to see Hetmyer and Pooran playing red ball cricket but they got to want it too.

cricketfreak 2021-11-04 20:50:27

West indies cricket overall gone to the DOGS , very sad .

WalterWhite 2021-11-04 20:53:51

In reply to imusic

Brooks should be there over a guy averaging 23 in domestic cricket for sure. Both are crap but there is no reason why Solozano should not be displacing Brooks with those numbers. On top of that the guy paints more that the original painter.

Harper and his group really need to be sent packing.

embsallie 2021-11-04 20:55:32

My question is why persist with an aging broken down Angel who never seems to be able to complete a test in one piece?
I would tour with Aljo and give Angel the needed rest for a home series.

WalterWhite 2021-11-04 20:58:52

In reply to embsallie

Someone likes to see the Angel hobbling on the field.

in the name of! where are they going with Warrican again

Solozano should be displacing Brooks

Why can't you get it right, Solozano is replacing an opener.
I would had been nice to see a wrist spinner in the squad, instead of two off break spinner and two left arm spinners.
Also should had been in the squad, Chemar Holder struggle in county cricket, after a couple games he was bench, he has not recovered from the thrashing he received in the last Hero Cpl.
In has bowled a ball in the two Best vs Best matches.

Hope replace Brooks
AJ should be in the squad

Ramon Reifer is more than a tad unlucky. The guy has performed at every trial and still cant get a look in

Narper 2021-11-04 22:05:43

In reply to imusic

Happy for Permaul that he made it. Overdue recognition for his regional exploits

Like the last tour to Bang he will fetch water for Warrican

dayne 2021-11-04 22:07:03

I guess Hope is the back-up keeper, but it beginning to look like we are in the Selector Browne era again, but only now a different person is practicing what Browne use to do.

Alan 2021-11-04 22:19:02

Powell is useless....how many chances for this man?...It is pointless.

Alan 2021-11-04 22:21:40

Who is Solozano??....and where is Joseph?...otherwise seems good to me.

Thanks

VoopsandOut 2021-11-04 22:22:19

i would certainly have gone for Reifer over one of Permaul or Warrican. I suspect that we will end up with 2 spinners plus Chase and two seamers plus Holder

WalterWhite 2021-11-04 22:24:19

In reply to openning

Why can't you get it right, Solozano is replacing an opener.

As far as I am concerned we dont have enough resources to afford that level of specialization. We need to be selecting the best we have. Doesn't Brooks usually bat in the top 3? It should be obvious to everyone that Solozano will be a complete embarrassment.

dayne 2021-11-04 22:42:11

In reply to WalterWhite

Solozano will make Kraigg look like an aggressive batsman, but I do not have a problem with his selection as he is young and might improve, but Gabriel and the two left-arm spinners together, look like the Selectors were having a few drinks when they made those selections. In Gabriel case, it seems like the Selectors have not learn from the WC, holding onto a senior player too long.

Brerzerk 2021-11-04 23:04:04

i am Interested to see how Permaul does. I don't believe he's test quality but time and again he's performed in the competition that determines who steps up so I am wishing him all the best and hope he is successful. As much as Josephs seems off the boil it is time they stop playing with the youths career. Give him a run a long one too. He Hetty, Poorie n Chemar know what success feels like and have ability. Carty, Belly-Roll, Drakes, Rutherford n them must be put in the same senior squad and tour whether making 1st 1X or not. That's the future.

Brerzerk 2021-11-04 23:08:35

In reply to conman
vs. who though and a man says Solozano is young, we take too long to develop our players I see 22yr olds debuting vs us time and again n beat us down too

Norm 2021-11-05 00:56:52

In reply to Larr Pullo
Permaul and Warrican, but no Motie?
We just done effing up the future of WI T20 cricket by recycling a bunch washed up old geezers. Time to do the same with the other formats, it would seem.

db 2021-11-05 01:27:08

In reply to Larr Pullo

The most difficult batsman to dismiss, Reifer, was left out? When will they recognize this guy for his lower order batting . Ideal #6

WICFan 2021-11-05 11:05:20

I would have took Joseph and Powell ahead of Gabriel and Solozano. Powell because of his experience playing in Sri Lanka, and Joseph because whilst his firm has been indifferent, I think at this stage, you can't be confident in Gabriel's fitness and form, and also Roach doesn't have a great record in the sub-continent.

Whilst I don't think you need both Permaul and Warrican, it's hard to continuously overlook Permaul's performances domestically.

My XI:
Kraigg Brathwaite
Shai Hope
Nkrumah Bonner
Jermaine Blackwood
Kyle Mayers
Roston Chase
Josh Da Silva
Jason Holder
Rahkeem Cornwall
Kemar Roach
Jayden Seales

conman 2021-11-05 12:49:23

In reply to Brerzerk

I believe he and cornwall were the 2 main bowlers used during the "A" team tours a few years back and then Bangladesh

Im not saying i agree with the guys thinking, but cant fault him, he knows he wont ever get picked ahead of cornwall so the best he got is to partner with him

velo 2021-11-05 12:53:23

this side looks thin in the fast bowling department and considering gabriels history could have dropped one of the slow bowlers for a extra faster bowler. solazono don't know much about him but his fc average is even more woeful than bonner and mayers imagine a
top order batsmen averaging 22 selected to make their test debut west indies cricket is so horrible they might as well let alzharri joseph open lol lol

positiveg 2021-11-05 12:53:43

Al Joh probably gonna be in the white ball tour of Pakistan in a few weeks too so guess that's why they left him out. He might end up traveling with the team to Sri Lanka
I really would of gone with Powell, he was in Sri Lanka training.

positiveg 2021-11-05 12:55:39

In reply to WICFan

Good team batting down to 10 if needs be.
But also good mix cause you have
6 proper batsmen then keeper then all rounder and three bowlers. balance enough starting XI.

conman 2021-11-05 13:05:12

In reply to WICFan

I would be surprised if they open with shai, he made runs during the warm ups but not opening

And there seems to be a general belief that if shai is to be effective not let him face the new ball and bring him down the order

WICFan 2021-11-05 13:42:25

In reply to conman

I think the selectors have backed themselves into a corner, nothing against Solozano but with the experience Powell has playing in Sri Lanka, I would have took him instead.

anthonyp 2021-11-05 13:54:24

In reply to WICFan

Matches playing in SL.. XI need at least 3 spinners.. Seales might be on the bench.

Warrican, Cornwall and Chase will play.

In the practice matches Hope batted in the middle order so I don't think he will be opening. Solozano and Kraigg are the specialist openers.

Most likely XI

1. Kraigg
2. Solozano
3. Bonner
4. Hope (wk)
5. Mayers
6. Blackwood
7. Holder
8. Chase
9. Cornwall
10. Warrican
11. Roach

I am not sure if your team is selected on emotion, or you do not follow the longer version.
There is a reason why Seales is selected ahead of Joseph, that is by performance.
Only an injury, that will keep Seales out of the starting X1.

Mustwin 2021-11-05 16:21:09

This foolishness has to stop. Stop destroying our dotties. Smith, Walsh, Shillingford, Alzari.... The list goes on and on.

googley 2021-11-05 16:24:18

In reply to doosra

Seales
Gabriel
Holder
Roach

Will Gabriel last the entire series?

anthonyp 2021-11-05 16:48:14

In reply to openning

You do realize the matches are being played in SL right? On pitches that will be turning square from ball one? How many pacers does go to SL and dominate?

Given the conditions isn't it better to play 3 spinners instead of 3 fast bowlers? Check the XIs that SL fielded in recent years at home.. 3 or more spinners always in their XI.

imusic 2021-11-05 16:59:51

In reply to anthonyp

So you advocate for Cornwall, Warrican, and Chase in the starting XI? cool

Narper 2021-11-12 20:03:37

Will Gabriel last the entire series?

$2 question.

JamMack 2021-11-13 01:13:04

IMO The squad is a travesty without Brooks and Walsh.

Overthrow 2021-11-13 15:13:23

In reply to anthonyp

The starting eleven you chose makes sense. We continue with the four prong without the quality and skill set, along with pitches designed to frustrate fast bowling. Until our cricket returns to the unique talent of past years, selection to support perceived strengths required.

Windiesfan78 2021-11-13 15:51:59

I am not familiar with Jeremy Solozano. His stats don't look impressive at all. Kindly tell me why he was chosen to be a part of this team. He has a first class average of 23.41 as an opener. That is unacceptable. Surely we can do better.

rillo 2021-11-13 16:36:01

In reply to brians_da_best

They need to give Joseph a good run. Picking him then dropping him is not good. Plus he is a valuable bat at the end.
Harper and co are a bunch of waste.
Looking forward to another 2-0

hubert 2021-11-13 17:04:36

In reply to Windiesfan78
Powell should not have have been omitted. They just recalled the man and he still has
an upside. This new fellow Solozano only averages 23 ? They hope to catch lightning in a bottle with him.
Anyhow wish him luck.
To me the biggest omission is Brooks.I hope the Angel remains fit.
Apparently the selectors are looking at Joseph as an ODI player now.Hard to figure that out.

And why can't Chanderpaul Hemraj get a look in ?.

Windiesfan78 2021-11-13 18:09:02

In reply to hubert

Sometimes I am lost for words. It is unbelievable how as fans we can see talent that the selectors don't. Powell stats are poor but he does have the experience. I am afraid we are in a duck's guts. To be honest, I am really beginning to realise that we really seem to be lacking talent. All the players mentioned are averaging in the 20s in FC cricket. shock

Brerzerk 2021-11-13 18:22:47

Hope Mayers use's this tour to rebuild confidence and end up even as an average Marlon/Hooper rather than fool's gold

Windiesfan78 2021-11-13 19:14:56

In reply to Brerzerk

I am really impressed with Mayers as an allrounder. He is very handy with the ball but had a torrid time in the series against Pakistan at the crease. I believe once he can get some runs on this tour he will regain tbat confidence. He has a very healthy strike rate and likes to get off the mark quickly. I think Marlon Samuels was like tbat as well. Once he gets that first run he appears to settle in.

rillo 2021-11-13 23:17:51

In reply to Windiesfan78

Not many WI batsmen LOOKING BETTER THAN THAT.
They just cannot go from 0-50. That takes time and trust by the Boarrd.
Give him the chance let us see how he does.

Windiesfan78 2021-11-14 03:05:10

One thing that is missing in this team is a solid opener to partner Kraigg. This is a big problem and perhaps it is time for someone to step up.

VoopsandOut 2021-11-14 15:01:31

In reply to Windiesfan78

one can be cruel and say that a solid opener is missing FULL STOP I agree that it was time for Powell to step aside and give someone else a chance. I also wonder why Hemraj and Carty are not in the mix for the opening position with Powell, Moseley, Campbell and Solzano.

Windiesfan78 2021-11-14 15:10:35

In reply to VoopsandOut

You are correct!
