WI missed Automatic Spot for next year T20

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (CMC) — West Indies have missed out on automatic spot in next year's Twenty20 World Cup following their abysmal showing at the ongoing showpiece, but Captain Kieron Pollard said the Caribbean side was not fazed by the prospect of having to go through a qualifying tournament.

The deposed champions finished fifth in Group One on two points after losing four of their five matches, slumping to 10th in the International Cricket Council rankings.

The top eight nations — the winner and runner-up of the ongoing T20 World Cup along with the next six highest-ranked sides — qualify directly for the Super 12 group stage for next year's tournament in Australia.

“Obviously we have to place a lot of emphasis on that. There's nothing much we can do about it now,” Pollard said following West Indies' eight-wicket defeat to Australia on Saturday.

“I think that journey [to qualification] would not have started just at this World Cup, this journey would've started before in terms of getting points accumulated to get to this stage.

“It is what it is. We have to live with that. A couple years ago we had to qualify for the 50-over World Cup as well and the guys went and they did it. So whoever is in the positions now, in terms of personnel to do that, we have no choice but to do it.

“So we've got to rebuild; we've got to start over, and that's what it is.”

A cut-off date of November 15 had been set for the qualification process, meaning West Indies will remain outside the top eight by the end of the ongoing tournament while Australia, England, India, Pakistan, New Zealand, South Africa, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh all secure automatic qualification.

might be the best thing for us as our players will get more international rather than club experience.

That’s the least of our problems
We don’t even have a qualified leader to take us forward
Jason Holder is probably the only leader who can take us forward

It is shocking that the WI team is below Afghanistan and Bangladesh rolleyes

By next year Ireland, Namibia and Sri Lanka may qualify ahead of us.

People keep saying that the W.I can't get any lower but this proves that we can. We now sit 10th in the table, behind teams that haven't been around for as long as us. That is despicable and if that isn't a cause for concern, I don't know what is. This team is the laughing stock in world cricket and you see and hear the digs in commentary. Time for some serious change before we are considered minnows. We can't ride on the coattails of former greats, it MUST be earned.

Look on the bright side, Slippy.

We'll become the first team to emerge WC champions after having suffered the indignity of participating in the qualifying rounds.

Just another entry into the record books.

Thats our hope that we will be able to dust off the ashes of 2021 T20 and move forward with motivation, competiveness and fight to regain our World Cup championship next year.
However we have to face the music for we played so poorly even in our warm-up games.
CWI might have to conduct T20 trial matches, much like the test team, in order to re-assess both experienced and new players abilities and form before selection of a new T20 team.

If it is done right, WI cricket could benefit from having to play the qualifying rounds, it could bring in more revenue to the Board, more young players should be exposed, more players will be battle tested.
