I would say because of their contributions over the years. There are a lot more positives to be honest.

Really what does dotties have to do with it?
Its relates to their contribution - and there is more to be unhappy with than

What happened to Shiv was unreasonable and as I said in another thread he was one of my favourite cricketers. I respect all of them because of their outstanding efforts which brings back great memories. Shiv and Gayle truly showed their commitment over the years. We have to remember that the board and players very often couldn't see eye to eye.

i definitely agree that we should respect both Gayle and Bravo for their skill and contribution to WI cricket, especially Gayle. However, there is a difference between respect and pandering. That is where I draw the line. The argument that we should not show respect to them because no respect was shown to Shiv is just not worth responding to.

I know that it's your opinion (to which you have all right), but what led you to such a conclusion?

Whatever you do, please, don't tell me it's because he has a higher average.

I think these two deserve more respect because of their opportunity cost every time they turn out for the WI, it's a new test players of eras gone by didn't have to face, WICB used to be the only game in town for cricketers.

Look at other countries whose players retire prematurely to chase T20 riches

Shiv captain the team at it's weakest, tried to bring a limited group together
Gayle and Bravo at the height of their careers seek to undermine ( in my opinion and profit via ipl )
Shiv stayed and played even through the leanest of times

Let's not even discuss averages and runs - because outside of lara, shivster was our best batter

Just a reminder... Gayle was dumped by Don Hilaire (actually HH based on the other H's recommendation/insistance) when he tried to implement the "Star Team". That was when the opportunity arose for Gayle to join the IPL.

Whatever you do, please don't forget your history.

Remember Gayle played for the W.I in the qualifying tournament for the ODI World Cup when others didn't make themselves available. How quickly we forget.

Plan compare gayle and bravo attitude and availability to the shivster
And tell me why they should get more respect than he?
He was dumped by the same coach here and made to feel he wasn't able to contribute while we must genuflect to Gayle and bravo

Your beef should be with the WICB and not CWI. If Shiv was under this current administration, he may have received a proper send off. All of these players deserve respect in my opinion and all of them left as champions.

Please remind him that leaked convos suggest that Hilaire planted the seed to IPL that 'Captain Gayle' would not be available for much of IPL and it was on that basis that NO FRANCHISE PICKED HIM UP AT THE HEIGHT OF HIS BEST FORM. Once he was not picked up WI then dropped him in the pursuit of putting youth in the team. Had Nannes not been injured RCB would not have picked up Gayle. Even then WI tried to stop Gayle from joining RCB. Gayle took it upon himself to still travel to India. A threat of a restraint of Trade Lawsuit is what caused WI to relent and issue Gayle an NOC.

Hilaire the self-proclaimed Labor Relations expert failed every test on that front.
The real question should be why SHOULDN'T Gayle n Bravo be respected.

n January Gayle, who scored 463 at a strike-rate of 141.59 for Kolkata Knight Riders in the previous three IPL seasons, surprisingly went unsold at the player auction. With a base price of $400,000, he found no bidders due to concerns that he would not be available for much of IPL 2011 due to international commitments.

He has since been left out of West Indies' ODI squad (for the first two matches) that will take on Pakistan at home from April 23, with the WICB deciding to focus on grooming youngsters after the quarter-final exit from the World Cup .

They represented us way above the call. They represented us even when our President was no where to be found .
They flew the WI people's flag when those "hoe"s in St Lucia were not doing anything for us except watch us slide down ALL the rankings.

It’s now in the modern era harder to see these guys as just not only West Indian cricketers. Statements by these two over the yrs since t20 cricket ‘club’ cricket emerged its ugly head gives a different mindset of them.
