HEADLINE: Hetmyer should be West Indies white-ball captain - Dave Cameron
CaribbeanCricket.com

Cricket West Indies (CWI) should appoint Guyanese batsman Shimron Hetmyer as the new white-ball captain after the disappointing run of Kieron Pollard at the ICC T20 World Cup and, generally, for the men in Maroon.
This assertion has come from former CWI President Dave Cameron who believes that the current CWI leadership is not looking at the precedent of players’ leadership records when selecting captains.
“We felt as an organization that Hetmyer would be a future leader for West Indies. The way he conducted himself when we won the 2016 Under-19 World Cup and coming through the ranks,” Cameron said while speaking as a guest on Line & Length on SPORTSMAX.

Hetty and Pooran are the future and if I had to choose I would go with Hetty, but Pollard still has a lot of cricket left in him he is a good leader and strategically sound on the field, was too bad he was dealt a crap hand with the T20WC selections.

Pollard should be mentor of youngsters like Hety & Pooran... provided Pollard upgrade his performance and fitness in the international circles.....

I said the same thing about three weeks ago, and some people were in disagreement, Hetmyer has the persona to lead, however since Pooran is already the VC it would be awkward to appoint Hetmyer without giving Pooran a run

Pollard's captaincy was not the reason for the rot we have been seeing of late. Hetmyer has shown that he has the potential to lead a team as was shown when he led the U-19 team to their maiden title in 2016. However, making him captain at this point in time makes little sense when Pollard has done a decent job thus far. Furthermore, Pooran has done well for the times Pollard wasn't in the role. It would send the wrong message to the team and would be an unwise decision. The further Cameron stays from this team, the better.

It would actually be good if Hety were VC of one team (say ODI) and Pooran is VC for T-20s. That at least gives a choice when Pollard leaves (and surprisingly he did not even offer to leave after the WC debacle). It is still amazing that Hety is not captain of Warriors after being an international captain.

You all realise that this is just another rant from Dave Cameron who has always fought against Gayle, Pollard, Bravo and then also turned against Sammy. Dave would do anything to see Pollard being discarded. There is no need to change Pollard as captain because if a bad world cup. I support a comment in this thread that maybe Hetmyer could be made vice captain of the ODI team and Pooran remain as vice captain of the T20I team. That to me would make sense. Dave, in my view, just continues to be a very vindictive miserable little man who hates not being relevant.

Ohhh, Remember the Name. I couldn't figure out what the acronym meant initially. That appointment made no sense and was a slap in the face to Sammy. I respect Carlos Brathwaite's attitude as a player and he is a true team man. However, he was far from ready for the role and should never have been placed in that position just because of his heroics in 2016.

Gotta agree with Jump on both counts:
1. Pollard was not the reason for us winning only one match in the recently concluded t20 World Cup. Having Pooran or Hetmyer as the captain wouldn't have made much of a difference in my humble opinion.
2. I also believe it was a decision out of spite dismissing Sammy as captain for one simple reason. During the interview in 2016, Sammy made a comment about the rift between the players and the WICB. He stated that he wasn't sure if he would still be captain after this. This was said live on television before an audience of millions. It would have been too obvious to dismiss Sammy for the next series. So the decision was made to drop him when the team failed again under his captaincy. I think it happened after the series we lost against Pakistan.

Pollard a leader is a big reason WI did so badly in the WC.
I'll give you a few reasons for now:
1 Squad selected
2 The singleminded approach to how WI play it T20s
3 There are better alternatives for leader
4 Arrogant and stubborn leader if you ask
me
5 Not a very good tactician (again my
opinion)

Pollard is arrogant yes but outside of Pooran, who do you think would have done better? Remember we have to take a look at experience. I am not a big fan of Pollard but his record before the recently concluded t20 has been decent.

results wise he has done very well........whitewashed SL, beat Australia 4-1, beat SL at home last year in the t20 series. And both the t20 series and the odi series in india had to be decided by the final matches of those series....i call that progress

Pollard is still the man. The ODI team is very young and oter than the core( Hope, Pooran and Hety)...they are in need of guidance. The world cup was s debacle, nobody is not saying that, but it does not make pollard a poor captain

In all fairness to Hetmyer, he hasn't been given the opportunity to prove himself. Pooran on the other hand has done well when given the chance to captain the team.
