I was in Oistin one night with a former roommate, one of my closest friends, I kept hearing Dr. Layne when people was talking to him.
I finally asking why are you being called doctor.
He looked and me and said," F...k you, you forgot I did a phd at UOC, that set the evening for a lot of fun, because we knew each other well.
All good on Shiv, one of my heroes.
My only hope is that he doesn't impart his awkward batting stance to the up and coming.

Four of his idols, have not be successful.
Kirk Edwards
Kraigg Brathwaite
Tagenarine Chanderpaul
Rajendra Chandrika

What, Kraigg Brathwaite, current captain of the West Indies test team, not successful?
Well, I'll be darned!
In reply to Drapsey
How do you rate success?
Dude, I have been following Kraigg's career since the U13 level, even had the historical data, which hope to retrieve, now the new BCA site is up and running.
I also was at home to see his first U19 and regional game, I know of what I write.
Kraigg from where I stand should had an average close to GG and DH, you don't score so many tons at such an age, and failed so miserably the last 3-4 years.
He has about 3-4 U19 test tons, plus a test double, yet he is averaging in the low 30, is that success to you?
In reply to openning
Come on openning.
While Kraigg has not developed into a great batsman as his potential forecasted, he's certainly successful in that he has elevated himself to be captain of the West Indies.
If you don't rate that as success then .....
In reply to Drapsey
I am Kraigg biggest fan on this mb, so I would not go any further, with this discussion.
I would never want a blind person, to be my driver.

About 5 years ago, I started writing about the role of a cricket captain, saying there is no need with all the technology given coaches, the on-field duties should be handle by the coaches.
Cricket is the only team sport where a captain make decisions in real time, I think it is archaic.

If all these chaps picked up from Dr. Shiv is his batting stance, then they are fools doomed for failure! I am sure the good Doctor will tell them that. A good coach will sharpen one's natural skills and ability, not trying to change or mold after their idol.

I could certainly win this argument, but I don't have the time for a 'long discussion', so I'll tap out after saying the following.
Your above post underlines why cricket is evolving into (near) oblivion.
Even the expression, "That's not cricket", meaning that there is dishonesty on display, is fast becoming a relic.
In reply to Drapsey
Before you leave explain, what make a current west indies player successful, by being made captain.
In reply to openning
By virtue of being elevated to captain.
That's huge.
Ok, we know that we've had the Reefers and the like, but there's always politics to deal with.
In reply to openning
cause them rass is Paint and Sun? you have to be like doctor Shiv
In reply to shivnotout
Shiv plans to keep it simple:
Poke the first 5 and then rotate the strike.
In reply to CricSham
them west indies players today is all dunce, them feel every ground is Antigua
Featherbed A batsmen-friendly pitch with little life for the bowlers. Often found in Antigua
In reply to shivnotout
You better stick to consultant coach Shiv, you know this mb, if Dr Shiv batsman failed at the U19 wc, every medical joke will be on this mb.
