That's what you think.

I for one dismissed him when he conveniently volunteered to return to test wicketkeeping duties. Figure out the rest.

Greatest batsman of the modern era.
His batting will be missed by millions around the world.

maybe his politics is offensive, quietly so, but he was indeed a great batsman. Ideologically Lara's successor in terms of his ability to score all around the ground. Harsha Bhogle said as much in a Castrol profile on him in about four years ago

SA's last great batsmen calls it a day.
It's all downhill from here.

IPL Goat

De Villiers retires as the sixth highest run-getter in the tournament and one of the two overseas players to scale the mountain of 5000 runs. It's not just the runs he scored that mattered but how he scored those and the chilling effect it put on the opposition bowlers and captains that, arguably, make him the GOAT (Greatest of All Time) in the tournament. With a bare minimum cut-off of 1000 runs, only eight players averaged more and only four scored at a faster rate than de Villiers in IPL. Chris Gayle's 351 sixes aside, no other player has hit as many maximums as de Villiers.

You/they shouldn't have mentioned Chris Gayle in the same breath as De Villiers.

Just saying. cool

AB inpressed me as a batsman when he debuted at 19 years old. I knew he would go on to be a great player. However, it seems that a lot went on behind the scenes which may have led to him moving on.

Kohli is also Lara's ideological successor in that regard but also in the way that Kohli thrives not only under pressure but thrives in an antagonistic atmosphere. Lara and Kohli will score a double hundred on a team because they have been sledged. Kohli is the most West Indian/Pakistani(Pakistan is a West Indian team in Asia) in the history of Indian cricket

Seriously, all Gayle is beating AB on in the IPL are the following...

1. Highest individual score (Gayle 175*, AB in 3rd place with 133*)

2. Most sixes (Gayle 357, AB in 2nd place with 251)

3. Most sixes in an inning (Gayle 1st, 3rd and 5th with 17, 13, and 12, respectively; AB in at 4th with 12)

4. Fastest tons (Gayle 30 balls, AB in at 5th with 43 balls)

5. Fastest 50s (Gayle in 6th place with 17 balls, AB in at 48 with 21 balls
