Shai Hope. where is he?

shivnotout 2021-11-21 05:11:30

Shai Hope was widely considered as the brightest prospect in WI cricket even 2-3 years ago. Didn't make the squad in t20 WC, now out of Text XI. Sad how things turned out for him.

shivnotout 2021-11-21 05:15:18

ok. he is with Permaul.

Bench.

Shai Hope, Kemar Roach, Veerasammy Permaul, Jayden Seales

surprised

Its a mystery why this lad has regressed.First saw him when he made 2 test hundreds in a test in England a few years ago.A record on tbe same ground.I thought he would go on to be one of the greats....nobody knows what happened to him.Technically from what I saw on that ground he was head and shoulders over the other Windies batsmen.

Massy 2021-11-21 05:25:16

Shai Hope omission is a big surprise to me .
He was the form batsman in the A v B team matches . He scored a century and 7o’s in the two match series.

Based on what? Certainly not based on his current test average? Style doesn’t make one the best batsman!

Yuh gotta let dem know Blackood and Bonner are the best batsmen in the Region lol

Brerzerk 2021-11-22 01:50:30

What style? Too many QI batsmen pose for cameras after the ball hit by middle n evade fielders fuh 4.Matters not iron connection bat was a mile from pad

Not saying Shai should be in the eleven but we are too quick to mention a guy's average for his none selection.

Can't a player improve/develop?

Shai will have a chance to improve his Test average now....

Out for 10.

How many more chances should he get? Do we wait until his Test average drops below 20?

Chrissy 2021-11-22 12:38:37

There are no good or very good batsmen in the region.

Wake the hell up! We are reaping what we sowed. Have a good look at the base of cricket in every territory - clubs, communities and schools. .

Agreed Chrissy, also we discarded our somewhat performing experienced batsmen too quickly, with the "Hope" that the younger batmen were young Laras, Rowes, and Greenidges.

Well we are debuting a player who is 26 and his FC average is 23. I will take the guy who is 28 with a 25 test average over that until someone better put up their hand.

Lemme give you another perspective.

Shai Hope's last 39 innings where he was dismissed(he had a 6 not out which I will exclude)

13 times dismissed for less than 10

12 times dismissed for between 10 and 19

5 times dismissed for between 20 and 29

4 times dismissed for between 30 and 39

3 times dismissed for between 40 and 49

He also scored 57 and 67

If you know ANYTHING ABOUT CRICKET or even COMMON SENSE you would admit that is a VERY POOR RECORD

Today during the match , hope looked head and shoulder above all other batmen.... positive approach and technically sound...these are the exact words used by the commentator...was out to a stunner of catch...Wider question...after 2016 , under-19 World Cup victory... several talented and promising players were being groomed for future.. Joseph,Chemar,Keemo,Hety, Springers,Goolie,...some even played for West Indies...but sadly, after 2019, most of them regressed dramatically... Goolie score heavily in trial matches for T&T...whether West Indies Board or respective regional board are taking any steps to prevent them from going Jehovah's way.....

West indies keep on recycling those players who will not do anything better than what they did back then, hope just will remain hopeless .

For the past 10-years Bonner was no good and because of COVID he is suddenly one of the 2 best batsmen in WI.
Watch his average continue free fall.

VoopsandOut 2021-11-23 02:24:24

This was Shai’s chance to come in from the cold hit a brilliant hundred and then never look back. Ah well.

Massy 2021-11-23 02:49:34

I have written numerous times that Shai Hope should bat no higher than 6 in the batting order in Test matches .
Shai at this time in his career does not have the technique nor temperament to bat higher than 6.
The world know by now that he is a suspect to genuine fast bowling with 4 slips and a gully
At 50 overs where has an excellent average of over 50 (one of the best in the world) he does not bat to a field of 4 slips and a gully.
Plus there are fielding restrictions and limitations to bouncers per overs
Having said the above, I still believe that Shai will eventually be a great WI Test batsman .
He scores heavily in our domestic competition.
If a batsman can score back to back centuries in a single Test match in England facing Anderson and Broad must be a good batsman .
Let’s hope in the second he puts up a decent score .
He has too much talent to be cast aside .

The problem with this batting line up is that too many batsmen should bat no higher than six.

But only one of them can. Somebody has to bat at 2-5.
