Roston Chase to Karunaratne, no run, the debutant Jeremy Solozano is on the floor. He has been smashed on the front of the helmet grille, gee! The Scoop stretcher is out to carry him off the field. The coach looks a worried man as he bustles down the stairs from the dressing room. The medical staff are out trying to examine the proceedings. Solozano remains unmoved. That was hit really hard by Karunaratne, it was dropped short and the Sri Lankan skipper had all the time in the world to rock back and muscle the pull on the leg-side, got it off the middle and bang into the helmet of the ducking short leg fielder. We are hearing that the rear part of the helmet has come off. The players, umpires are waiting anxiously as the sub fielders rush in with a bag of drinks

Not a good sign: Jeremy Solozano is being stretchered off the field as the ambulance rushes in around the sidelines... The West Indies head coach is ambling towards the medical staff to get an update. Let's hope it ain't as serious as it appears.

'No structural damage' in Jeremy Solozano's scans; to stay under observation overnight

Jeremy Solozano, debuting for West Indies in the first Test against Sri Lanka in Galle, will be kept under observation overnight after being stretched off the field to a hospital following a blow to his head by a shot from Dimuth Karunaratne. The scans have revealed 'no structural damage', said WICB in an update on Twitter.

Then he'll have to bat twice in 2 days.

But it could be a blessing in disguise. Should the debutant fail, there'll be a ready excuse.

That explains the 12 man team.

natty_forever 2021-11-22 10:36:55

Seems we need 13.

West Indies have picked Shai Hope as the concussion substitute for debutant Jeremy Solozano, who will play no further part in this Test. The substitute was confirmed after being approved by the match referee Ranjan Madugalle
