Yes..Staying on the crease and slashing..Had he advanced a pace down he could hit straight and lofted it higher.Does not and will not learn.
Shot and expression are perfected through practice..disappointing.

Wondering if his stature is a contributing factor to him getting out in this manner so frequently. I know there have been or there are batsmen with similar stature but somehow I can't seem to remember them getting out in this manner time and time again.
So perhaps it could be a combination of technique and his height?

When he was batting at 6, he was batting to low for our best bats. Now he is opening, perhaps he is batting to high. I suggest he should be tried at 3 and promoted to Captain. We have to find a way to extract production before this huge talent is wasted.

Batting at 3 would be tantamount to opening. With the openers we've had over the past few years WI starts at 0/1 before a ball is bowled.

Swiping is not talent at Test level. Throw him into the T20 mix. I find it mind boggling, he is considered only a Test batsman. He is wasted in test cricket. It goes against his natural instinct to block. David Warner was able to transition, Blackwood clearly can’t.

Should bat between 3 and 5.

VoopsandOut 2021-11-24 14:01:31

I disagree. Until we find a decent opener, he may as well open if he is on the team and let perhaps a better batsman slot into the middle order. I dont think it is a question of height as there have been many short batsmen eg Boon and Ponting and Shiv. It is a matter of technique. If a shot isnt working for you, dont play it. He cannot help himself. it is reminiscent of the days when Sarwan was the happy hooker. Blackwood plays the shot without getting under the ball to give it enough height. That means he is playing the shot to the wrong ball.

Everybody keeps bringing up Warner as if he only played t20s

The entire team is in flux....an opener gets injured...team management promote a batter habituated to bat at 5 or 6 to open in both innings....team management lacks strategical sense...in this forum players gets cussed 24*7....but management with their faulty strategies are earning huge remuneration without being held liable for their inefficiencies....if players are dropped after a series, then management should also be sacked after more than 2 years of failures....T-20 World Cup and Sri Lanka series should be the last mail for the team management....

I agree CWI has not adjusted to the 21-Century. All professional sports teams/franchises follow some basic principles (i.e., team management including coaches are responsible for on-field performance or lack of it). For years I have been advocating that players should be graded after every series, and highlight areas that need improvement. Not picking on anyone player but Blackwood should not be getting out the way he did insuch a critical innings the way he did. Is it his fault or management's?

I call it programming a player to fail... Opening is very special position for specialists.....a player habituated to playing at no.5 or 6 can't be promoted to open....

dayne 2021-11-24 18:03:25

By now a good coach would have strongly advised Blackwood to stop playing that shot, every series I have Blackwood in at least one inning I have seen him out that way,

Narper 2021-11-24 18:10:35

Woody's problem is not the position in which he is batting...he is simply not a test batsman...he will make runs now or then against the 2nd tier test teams....with his wild swipes and luck in his favour.

I would say it is his fault. He made the mistake on the field, not the coach or support staff.

The Coaching team is part of management - I am sorry but coaching teams creates scenarios/situations for players during training sessions. This builds confidence and iq.
Do you think other professional sports teams wait until game day and leave it upto the players in pressure situations. NO!
If that is the thinking no wonder WI have lost 6 wickets for under 100 runs.

If you followed cricket closely you would understand why.
