ST JOHN’S, Antigua – Cricket West Indies (CWI) announces the appointment of former West Indies captain, Ramnaresh Sarwan, as a Selector to the West Indies Men’s Senior and Youth Selection Panels, which are led by the Most Hon. Dr. Desmond Haynes and Robert Haynes respectively.

Ramnaresh Sarwan is a former West Indies captain who played at the international level for over a decade. His appointment was confirmed during a meeting of the CWI Board of Directors on Thursday, January 6, and he will be stepping down from his current role as Chairman of the Guyana Cricket Board’s Senior Selection Panel to focus on this role and avoid any conflict of interest.

CWI President, Ricky Skerritt, said: “I am delighted to confirm that Ramnaresh Sarwan has agreed to accept the post of Selector on CWI’s Men’s Senior and Youth Panels. He is a student of the game and knows what is required of our young cricketers in order to achieve international success. The Board of Directors is confident that Mr. Sarwan will add enormous value to the cricket system.”

The future of West Indies Cricket would be brighter with the following:
Head Coach : Desmond Haynes
Head Selector: Brian Lara. We need a head selector that can see talent beyond our regional competition. Fedel Edward was not even on the Barbados team when Lara saw his potential during net practice and picked him. I think of another Barbados pacer by the name of Jofra Archer. Who was in our U19 team but was never picked for Barbados. I think of this Athanaze chap from the Windwars that looked like another star but is in and out of a weak Windwards team.
Bowling Coach: Cotney Walsh. Out most successful test bowler is good enough to be the bowling coach of our women’s team but not good enough to be the bowling coach of our main mens team? To me that’s madness

I do not like this move by sarwan. He is being used by wicb. He will simply be a puppet as a wicb backup selector.

They would have never given him this job if he was not chief selector for guyana.

Why would anyone what's to give up a chief selector role for a simple backup puppet role.

I know sarwan reads here. Bad move. They will soon kick him out and he will left with nothing.

Who would be the actual players that play on the field?

No Selectors can fix WI cricket what is needed is better preparation as in coaches etc and facilities.

Oh stop. Its the players not the selectors or the WICB. How many selectors and WICB Presidents are you going to change before you admit that the players just arent good enough. They are well paid, they enjoy the privilege of being Caribbean and in some cases global celebrities...some have substantial 20/20 wealth and are all very comfortable financial wise but they still fail. Its not the WICB is the quality of the players.

os.

Fidel made Bim team before Lara discovered him like Christopher discovered the Islands, As for Archer he played for Barbados U19 , and also played for WI u19 against Bangladesh, he failed to make the 2014 u19 WI World cup youth team, Archer was an allrounder and bowled was medium. Jerome Jones, Ray Jordan , Marquino Mindley and Mcsween were the top U19 fast bowlers at the time.

Lara saw Fedel in net practice and pushed Barbados to include him on the Bados team. So after one game for Barbados he was on the West Indies team. So educate yourself
‘Fidel Henderson Edwards is a Barbadian cricketer, who plays all formats of the game. A pace bowler, his round-arm action is "not unlike" that of former fast bowler Jeff Thomson. He was spotted in the nets by Brian Lara and was called up for his Test debut against Sri Lanka after just one match for Barbados.”Wikipedia

I know all what you said about Archer. The fact remains that Barbados selectors did not see potential in him and didn’t even pick him to represent Barbados senior team. So happens he became one of the fastest bowlers the world has seen in recent times. Our selectors just look at performances during our regular season. But what about those players that never played for any regional team but later became world class players like Archer and Fedel Edwards?

@ TCI, I realized you must be very young and not too familiar with the history of some of our great players especially when it comes to our blind selectors that pick players on the bases of performance rather than talent. Do you know Curtly Ambrose was dropped from the Leewards team after one match? Had it not been for Viv Richards that was able to send him to England on a scholarship, Ambrose would most likely become another well talented player that was not spotted by regional selectors

That's why there should be scouts watching cricket at junior level, finding these rough diamonds and getting them involved before they give up or turn to other sports.

Sars campaigned for this position ... fitness first, raise the bar to 45, 40 too easy ....

so before he could select one Guyanese team, he's a CWI selector ....

Its a tough job you undertook, Sarwan. Have always been fan, and i wish you success. We don’t expect miracles, but want players with merit to have a chance… Many of our young players are frustrated for their non-selection, give our young players a chance and stop the recycling of dotards.
