Venue: Bellerive Oval, Hobart

Day 1: Toss delayed due to rain
This game was originally scheduled for Perth but had to be moved out because of Covid restrictions in Western Australia. Unfortunately Perth has lost out on hosting Test matches of late because of restrictions and last time it hosted a Test was in December, 2019. But the shifting to Hobart meant, like never before, we now have two pink ball Tests in the same series.

It is still not cricket-dry and looks quite dark in the background. Seems like toss will take a while. But we all know the captain is going to field first because of so much green and overhead conditions. Will there be a bold call?

Joe Root:
We'll bowl. Overhead conditions, slightly tacky conditions. [On missing players] It has been frustrating and is something we had to battle with right through the pandemic. We have tried to manage it as best as we can and now have to take the opportunity to do well over these five days. It was very important that we got something from the last game. The way we played on the last day was brilliant and we can take something out of it here

Pat Cummins:
We were probably going to have a bowl with the weather around, but not too upset because you want to bat first in pink ball Tests. We had a lot of fun, day five got really tight. Really tough for Harris to miss out. He has grown in the last two years but when someone like Ussie (Khawaja) puts a performance like that, it's tough to go past it. It's been a great week. This ground has a lot of history and it's pretty good to be part of it.

So 5 changes for England:
Burns for Hameed, Pope for Bairstow, Billings for Buttler, Woakes for Anderson and Robinson for Leach.

While Hameed has been dropped, both Buttler and Bairstow are out injured and England have rotated Woakes for Anderson and recalled Robinson for the pink-ball Test in place of a spinner. No Anderson means we might well have seen the last of the great man on these shores.

Robinson to Warner, out Caught by Crawley!! Edgeddd and taken well at second slip. That was flying off the edge, but Crawley was alert with bent knees. Got his hands up to the left to pouch with both hands. Lovely ball from Robinson. Duck

Broad to Khawaja, out Caught by Root!! This edge goes straight to first slip and Crawley isn't coming across. Brilliant full outswinger, Khawaja doesn't resist the defence this time, 6

Robinson to Smith, out Caught by Crawley!! Edgeddd and taken low at second slip. There is absolutely no chance you can escape this pitch and ball as a batter in these conditions. Duck

Broad to Labuschagne, out Bowled!! 134.1kph, unbelievable dismissal. "I have never ever seen that in Test cricket" says Michael Vaughan on air. Labuschagne is on all fours after his spikes slipped and the result is Broad hits the stumps. 44

Aus batsmen are taking every centimetre of pink off that English ball. What a counter-attack by Head and the young boy Green.

Why did England rest their best bowler again? I am sure Jimmy must have felt he could have had 5 in the bag when Eng had Aus' back against the wall at the early stages of the match.

Mark Wood to Cummins, out Caught by Crawley!! Third wicket for Mark Wood and all of them have come with the short ball. 143.2kph, short and rising, Cummins takes it on but top-edges the pull and Crawley didn't have to move much at deep backward square leg. This short-ball ploy has worked so well for England in this game. And Australia are falling for it.

Woakes to Carey, out Bowled!! Inside-edge and gone. Extra bounce from a good length on off, Carey gets forward to defend, it trims the inside-edge, flicks the back thigh and then takes the bails. Tight line and length and Woakes has got a wicket. Expect Lyon to play more shots now.

Starc to Rory Burns, no run, beats him. A proper jaffa this, angling in on a good length on off-stump, only to straighten away past the squared up poke. Wait, wait. There's a clear spike on UltraEdge as the ball goes past the outside-edge. Nobody appealed!

and then get run out lol

1.4
Cummins to Crawley, out Rory Burns Run Out!! Absolute madness. As if getting undone by swing and seam wasn't enough already, England's opening troubles now have a run-out as well to boast about in their featherless cap. Duck
