In reply to mikesiva
Nice.

In reply to Ewart
Tiafoe out.
Felix outlasts his Spanish opponent 7-6,6-7,7-6,7-6 in a four hour marathon. Is there anything left in the tank?
Japanese qualifier Daniel puts out Murray in straight sets.
In reply to mikesiva
Murray is finished.
Medvedev has this one - up two sets now - event eh crowd can't save Kyrgios
Kyrgios takes the 3rd
In reply to Chrissy
Raducanu out too. Not a good day for the Brits.
In reply to mikesiva
Just tuned in to see the end of the match! Im guessing the girl was to big and strong for Raducanu???
Seems a like good match between Kyrgios and Medvedev!
In reply to mikesiva
If you watch carefully you will see that Felix moves very slowly before he serves and then... Bam!
Reminds me of an old story about a daddy bull and his son walking along a ridge when they spy a nice group of young heifers in the vale below them.
"Daddy! Daddy!" the young bull cries out. "Look at all those nice juicy heifers down there! Let us run down and fcuk one of them!"
"No my son," the old bull replied quietly.
"Let us walk down and fcuk all of them."
A lesson in preserving your energies for when it is most needed.

Among the third round winners today are
Monfils
Keys
Azarenka
Shapovalov
In reply to mikesiva
I was rooting for Carlos - he will win many slams
In reply to Chrissy
Barty wins her match in straight sets.
A set all between Osaka and Anisimova.
In reply to mikesiva
Much closer than I expected - Naomi needs one more game
Freaking wow!
Down goes Naomi
In reply to Chrissy
Naomi is still battling demons?
Saw the 3rd set of Keys match! She was brilliant in the tie-break, at one point she was up 8-0. BTW, didnt know tie- break went beyond 7 points, must be something new for the a deciding set!
In reply to StumpCam
Australian rules. You might remember there was a time when they bowled 8 balls for an over.
//
In reply to FanAttick
Doesn't seem so according to her interview. She seems quite composed and taking it in her stride.
//
In reply to Ewart
Off topic but it's things like that which make me laugh when purists complain about the sanctity of Test or first-class matches.
In reply to StumpCam
Its called a super tie break and is used at the Australian Open to decide the winner of the 5th set if they get to 6-6 in that 5th set. Or 3rd set for women
First to 10 and you have to win by 2
So you could be 9-9 and win the next point to make it 10-9. You still have to win by 2 even though you were first to 10.
But if its 8-8 and you win the next 2 points, you win the deciding set.
I think other Slams still use play till you win by 2 games in the final set decider. Oz open is different.
In reply to imusic
Winners today include
Halep
Medvedev
Tsitsipas
In reply to mikesiva
Add Felix - great match.
In reply to Chrissy
Crushed final British hope Daniel Evans in straight sets.
In reply to Chrissy
Indeed. That guy is so composed! Has great reserves and deploys them when needed.
//
In reply to Ewart
Winners today include
Nadal
Keys
Barty
Shapovalov beat Zverev in straight sets! Monfils also gets to the quarter finals in three sets.
In reply to mikesiva
..interesting that Shapovalov polished Zverev like that..
Nadal won in the end but made it look like a contest in the first, he was struggling..
Shapovalov vs Nadal should be a good one to watch..Nadal will fancy himself against Shapovalov over Zverev..I don't see Nadal making it much further though..
In reply to Ewart
Denis also played a great match this morning - damn he took out Zverev in straight sets. Monfils also won.
Berrettini is improving big time.
In reply to imusic
Each slam has it's own method for ending a match that is tied in the last set.
In reply to Chrissy
Shapo is amazing me. That was a great victory.
//
In reply to Ewart
Yuh know that Nation's CUp they won did a lot for their confidence
In reply to Chrissy
Halep out.
Felix comes from a set down to beat Cilic in four. Into the quarter finals.
In reply to mikesiva
Great win for Felix
Two Canadians in the quarters for the first time ever
Fritz leading 2-1
Can he take out Tsitsipas?
Good win by Tsitsipas..Fritz is improving.
Cornet into her first ever QF after 62 Grand Slam appearances..wow!!
Three Americans into the QFs on the women's side..
Over confidence sits between Medvedev and the title..
..some very interesting match-ups to come on both the men's and women's sides..
Keys just broke Krejcikova..I am tentatively backing Keys to take it home here..if she doesn't rely only on her power..she has to use some guile..
Great win for Keys..happy for her..
Nadal looks completely opposite to how he looked against Mannarino.. if he keeps this up this match will be done in less than 3 hrs..
Rafa Rafa. Rafa
In reply to hotarobin
Injury intervened, but Nadal dug deep and won in five sets.
Barty crushed her American opponent at two and love.
In reply to Chrissy
Dennis Shapovalov has a lot to say about Djokovic
In reply to Ewart
Rafa has only lost two five set matches in his career whens hes leading 2-0
Gael wins the 3rd set
In reply to mikesiva
I fell asleep, sounds like it was a good match..didn't expect the youngster to push Nadal to 5 sets..
For the first time in Monfils life he seems serious but I don't expect him to over the "new Del Potro"..I expect Berrettini to win in 4 but let's see if we are in for a surprise..
Wow! Monfils broke Berrettini to win the 4th..sorry I am not able to watch this match, I am sure it's good..
In reply to hotarobin
A fabulous match.
This one is also fun - Gael has come from behind and it's 2-2
In reply to hotarobin
Gael looks hungry - hope he wins
Come on Gael, you can do this. You have a long way from two down and out. Now finish it, by first holding your serve. Matteo looks like he is running out of gas.
In reply to Casper
Will have to break back now
Dis done - double break
In reply to Chrissy
..cha sounds like a let down..I remember many moons ago there was a highly anticipated match between Monfils and Federer and I was rooting for Monfils uncharacteristically..
Federer dismissed Monfils with seemingly little effort with Monfils putting up no resistance whatsoever..I was done with Monfils ever since
In reply to hotarobin
One mental slip up at the start of the 3rd, when he probably had the game in his pocket and Matteo on his back foot. I cant believe this turn around.
I think Monfil lost his chance of ever winning a Slam.
In reply to Casper
Since you watched it let me ask this, at any time during the match did Monfils motion to the crowd to cheer for him or one of his shots?
In reply to hotarobin
Near the end of the third set. It was a good match. Monfils gave his all and left everything on court. He was beaten by a younger, stronger and higher seeded opponent.
Swiatek and Collins through to the semi finals.
Tsitsipas crushed Sinner in straight sets.
In reply to mikesiva
Up for the Felix match.
1-1. 1st setting
Felix gets the break and will serve for the 1st set
Unforced errors- Med breaks back - tiebreaker
And Felix wins the tiebreaker
In reply to Chrissy
Felix did well to bounce back from being broken.
In reply to Chrissy
I have him pegged to beat Medvedev and win this match.
//
In reply to Ewart
Match after match Medvedev spends a lot of time whingeing about the fans or the court.
A real misery guts!
Felix breaks early in the second set to go 2-0 up.
Wow - break for Felix
In reply to Ewart. & mikesiva
My lil Ashe
Mek Med whine away
3-0
Wow I am missing this Felix vs Medvedev match..ESPN has it only on ESPN+ this year..
Would be great if he could pull off this "upset"..
One to go! Go Felix!
In reply to hotarobin
Felix takes the second set at three.
..to anyone watching is Medvedev injured or showing signs of discomfort in anyway?
In reply to hotarobin
Being outplayed - dat simple
In reply to Chrissy
This is an unexpected shocker. Felix is playing unbelievable tennis. If he can keep this up for another set and two more matches, we could be seeing the new entrant into the NextGen of Grand Slamers.
In reply to hotarobin
Felix has been out hitting Medvedev in the long baseline points, which has surprised the Russian.
Also, because Medvedev stands so deep on receiving this allows Felix to come to the net and volley winners.
Felix service has been on fire, while Medvedev has served some double faults at crucial points.
Felix receives closer to the baseline, and has been more effective on return of serve.
In reply to mikesiva
Med fighting for this tiebreaker - leading 5-2
Medvedev takes the 3rd
thanks for the feedback..
I see Medvedev mounting a cone back in the 3rd..reset for Felix in the 4th maybe..
4-4 4th set
Damn Medvedev gets the break and will serve for the 4th
On to the 5th
Good love hold for the first game. Come on Felix
Ah well - you will win Slams Felix
On the other hand one break back from Felix could change this but the trainer was on a while ago so I don't know
In reply to Chrissy
Tough luck Felix, you played a hell of a match!
In reply to StumpCam
He certainly did!
//
Cha tough luck for the Canadians but they battled well..Canada should feel proud if them..they both will be back I believe..
During the oncourt interview Medvedev was asked what was going through his mind when Felix had him down and out. He said "what would Novak do?" The crowd booed and he said of course Roger or Rafa too and the crowd applauded. Medvedev is Djoker's number 1 fan.

In reply to FuzzyWuzzy
I believe that he models his entire approach after Joka..
They are the only two on tour who actually get energized when the crowd is against them..those two feed off the heckling..
Of the big three I think Joka is the strongest mentally, then Nadal then Federer a distant third..
ya know that Fed is my guy but Medvedev is making smart, even if unpopular, move by modeling himself after Joka..
but I really wanted Felix to beat his...
Me thinks that Medvedev will beat Berrettini in the final..
I would say that Nadal has come to the end of the road in this tournament as Dep P ver 2.0 is too powerful for him..but saying that I cannot rule him out as he is one the craftiest the game has ever seen..
Tsitsipas is my favorite one left but unfortunately I don't see him getting over Medvedev in this tournament and if he does, neither of the other two..
Also I wouldn't mind if Berrettini wins but I don't feel that this is his tournament..
In reply to hotarobin
I like your analysis but Daniil aka djoker 2.0 is my boy. The other son Sascha fell by the way but he was my no 2 favourite
In reply to FuzzyWuzzy
sounds like you haven't read my post carefully..
Rafa can beat Berrettini, his backhand is not rock solid. He can also beat Tsitsipas, his head is not rock solid.
But it will take a miracle for him to beat Medvedev. Not the most graceful or technically correct but he can run all day long like an Ethiopian and he's a mental monster.
In reply to JohnBull
Let's see..he doesn't have a good track record in the finals down under..he made it 5 times and won once beating Federer because Federer had Rafa-inna-him-head issues..ya right about Medvedev though..
Poor Madison
In reply to Chrissy
Nerves 6, Keys 0..
Barty is playing well but Keys has got so much nerves it's completely unraveled her game..look at her terrible court positioning..can she turn it around before it's over??
Serena would double bagel the current world #1 when she was in form..
In reply to hotarobin
Maddie is playing better now- on serve. Hope she breaks Ash
Dis done
In reply to Chrissy
Unfortunately her positioning is woefully off..she has forgotten how to move.. she's overwhelmed by the situation..sad
Good win for Barty..not unhappy for the ex-cricketer!
In reply to hotarobin
Barty through to the final at one and three.
Keys only knows one way to play. The power game. But Barty didn't try to fight power with power. Instead, she used the slice to disrupt Keys game. Keys had to manufacture her own pace, but instead the errors flew off her racquet.
In reply to mikesiva
..expected her to put up a better fight though..
In reply to hotarobin
Collins heading for the final. Gawn fi miwalk
In reply to Chrissy
Swiatek blasted off court in four and one.
In reply to Chrissy
not surprised, she didn't put on a great showing against Kanepi in the last match..
Collins is very capable of pulling off the upset against Barty..should be a good game!
In reply to mikesiva
These wonders come and go with tasteless haste
Set and a break Rafa
Mek dat 2-0
Come on Rafa
And Rafa gets the break
And into the final
In reply to Chrissy
Rafa in 4 !
Wow I fell asleep and miss de whole thing..I thought Berrettini would beat Nadal actually..so let me eat crow and go back to bed
Tsitsipas is my boy but he ain't ready yet..hopefully Medvedev wraps this up in three straight and conserve energy for the final..
In reply to hotarobin
One set all and Medvedev launched a tirade against the umpire. I wonder how the media will cover this outburst.
In reply to mikesiva
I was just going to post the same..if that was Serena we would be hearing about it for the next 5 years..
..anyways I didn't see that one coming. Have to see how much this will throw Medvedev's game off..
Ok Medvedev up a break in the 4 running away with the set and match..
In reply to hotarobin
Medvedev wins in four sets.
In reply to mikesiva
Yep
Rafa beat Medvedev pm the final of the US Open in 2019.
Should be interesting/
In reply to Chrissy
Pulling for Rafa but Medvedev is a serious yute, no holes in his game and strong both mentally and physically.
Five yrs ago Rafa would kick his raass but this yrs Rafa may not be quite enuff.
We shall see.
In reply to JohnBull
Agree - ddo you know that he prevented the Fed from 21, Djoka from 21 - can he stop Rafa?
In reply to Chrissy
It was Djoker 1.0, not Djoker 2.0 who stopped Federer 21 st at Wimbledon 2019
In reply to Chrissy
Medvedev beat Fed in a final? I didn't know that..the last final I remember Fed featuring in was the Wimbledon he lost to Joka like a dunce..
the final should be very interesting..Nadal doesn't have a good track record in the Aussie finals but he has the experience and he is hungry to get that 21st and he constantly evolves and adjusts his game..
Medvedev is arguably not the same player Nadal beat at the US Open in 2019 and he will want to get back his revenge, he will also feed off of fans cheering for Nadal..
May the better man win..
In reply to hotarobin
Med never beat Federer. Federer has 3 - 0 h2h
Barry is Collins?
I will go with the underdog Collins..
In reply to hotarobin
Barty carrying the weight of a nation on her shoulders.
She's not playing as well as she did in earlier rounds.
Collins double faults to give Barty a break for 4-2.
In reply to mikesiva
they are both not playing well..Collins also not playing well too
Barrty takes the first set 6-3..
I still backing de underdog..
Collins breaks Barty in the 2nd but if she doesn't consolidate she will lose this match two straight..she is an emotional player..
Collins consolidates but these women are playing at a low level..
In reply to hotarobin
From 5-1 to 5-5!
This is some pissy tennis..there are about 90% unforced errors between both players compared to winners..low level tennis..
In reply to hotarobin
Tiebreaker time.
Barty wins 6-3,7-6.
In reply to mikesiva
Huge win- Collins blew the 2nd set. Ash is a genuine #1.
..that was such poor tennis I went back to sleep..congratulations to Barty nevertheless
In reply to Chrissy
Kyrgios and Kokkinakis won the all Australian men's doubles final.
In reply to mikesiva
How do you trust someone with 4 K's in their name???
In reply to Dukes
you still backing Rafa?
And Rafa breaks in the 2nd
In reply to FuzzyWuzzy
Medvedev is the favorite but Rafa is mih boy
In reply to FuzzyWuzzy
Gone back to bed!!!
😂😂😂😂
Just got up and seeing that Nadal down two sets..oh dear..
I figure this thread will be silent as long as Medvedev stays ahead..
Nadal fighting like a dog..holds serve to get to 3-3 after being down 0-40..
In reply to hotarobin
In the years to come Medvedev will win many Slams. He may even surpass 20 Grand Slam titles.
In reply to mikesiva
..wow it's extremely early to make such a call..he is only at 1 major and he has to remain healthy for quite some time.
Plus he's actually not that good..
Rafa gets the break - this isn't over yet
In reply to Chrissy
Nadal on the board
Takes 3rd set
In reply to hotarobin
Medvedev is only 25, and he will get better. With the Big Three up for retirement, the Russian only has to be better than Tsitsipas, Thiem, Zverev and co, which is not hard. Hopefully Felix can step up a level.
Nadal takes the third set! Good!
And Rafa gets di break - wooooooooooooooooooooooeiiieeeeeeeeeee muh!
In reply to mikesiva
25 is actually old.. didn't Joka win his first major at 20? Federer at 21 and Nadal at 19?
Anyways let's hope that we are around to continue this conversation 10 or 15 years from now..
Who call fi di trainer?
Back on serve
Rafa breaks again
The whiner is whining - losing his cool- and the OZ fans are now rubbing it in
..good fighting by Nadal..the crowd is terrible though
2-2
In reply to Chrissy
All square
In reply to Chrissy YEP! just start watching
[b]In reply to Chrissy - love it
In reply to birdseye
And Rafa gets di break
Sweet as
In reply to Chrissy
Nerves got the better of Rafa. I could see his hand shaking just before he served.
In reply to Chrissy
Medvedev breaks back 5-5!
Pickle juice working?
Another break! Nadal 6-5, serving for the match.
In reply to mikesiva
Goat
Rafa!!!!
Rafa! Rafa! Rafa!
In reply to FanAttick
Number 21!
Congrats Rafa
Congrats to Nadal!:you are a true warrior!
In reply to Dukes
The thing is he isn't missing on a second chance - nervous fi true - whole heap a history dis, but he got it done.
In reply to Chrissy
It truly is a remarkable win.He knows that this was his most improbable win even though Joker was absent because Rafa's recent bout with injuries were indeed career threatening. At 35 he was able to overcome the doubts and prevail.
KUDOS TO HIM
