Former West Indies batsman, Carlisle Best, insists he does not understand the reluctance by Cricket West Indies (CWI) to part ways with team captain Kieron Pollard and coach Phil Simmons given the team’s recent poor run of performances.

Simmons, who was appointed a coach of the team in 2019, and Pollard, who was appointed West Indies white-ball captain that same year, have come under immense pressure in recent months, following a string of bad results and poor performances.

“If we are going forward, we have to focus primarily on performances and those performances have to be result oriented…Do we want a winning team and can we find that winning formula, certainly we do not have that formula now with either captain Pollard or coach Simmons. It’s as simple as that,” he added.

It is ironic that Best should say something of this nature overlooking his own history with regard to when he was in the WI team.

Isn't it a known fact that changing captains and or coaches hasn't changed the status of WI cricket results?

Is it a known fact that cricket standards in the region has been below average for over two decades due to the politics and incapabilities of past Administrations. The quality or lack thereof of players today is as a result of this.

The quality of pitches in the region at club and regional levels have declined, the scouting and developmental programs from the school throughout the under 19 levels have been questionable and actually leaves much to be desired, etc ......

It is easy to criticize by some but never a solution to accompany it.

It is clear the CWI doesn't have a plan to get WI cricket to a point of competitiveness.

Pollard and Simmons should have gone long. But this is only part of the solution. Let's not kid ourselves that all we need to resurrect our cricket. There are a myriad of issues to address one of which is well identified by article on this MB

What do I speak about? The day after election the president and VP are campaigning for reelection. Every regime as lack the gonads to make the stuff calls.

There also the question of territorial tribalism and the ensuing crab mentality.

These and other cancers make it certain that the perennial issues are not addressed. No structures no systems. This means that there are wise disparities in the levels of cricket between territories.

But indeed Simmons and Pollard have done nothing to inspire confidence
