The situation that has been set up by the WI selectors is that both Brooks and Blackwood will continue in the second test in Barbados.Permaul will be dropped and Mayers will replace him.
WHY do I think that?
The alternatives have been whittled down to Chase and Hope.
Chase 11----21---0----314----14.95
Hope 7------14----0----228---16.29
One averages 14.95 and the other 16.29 in their most recent test matches
It would be ILLOGICAL to pick them at this point
THERE IS NOBODY ELSE
This is where we are.

Good team !

Who are the Covid reserves?
In reply to Dukes
Raymon Reifer should get a game
In reply to Dukes
With that team Kraigg will miss the third test.
Over rate penalty.
In reply to openning
third or second? Paint and Bonner can bowl 15 overs between them to even things out.
In reply to Dukes
Permaul stays also.
Only change may be Mayers for Aljo and that depends on how the Kensington wicket is prepared.
In reply to Dukes
I would include Roston Chase for either J Blackwood or V Permaul.
In reply to Dukes
I would also try Anderson Phillips - instead of Alizari Joseph.
I will play Hope .
I still feel that Shai Hope will be our next great batsman .He just needs to play more 4 days cricket .
I heard that he has gotten over the genuine pace ( Mark Wood is injured)
I went to Bdos a few years ago to discuss with him the possibly of him going to play in the English County Championship( some of us Guyanese living in New York were willing to assist him financially. However, he refused to meet with me despite great efforts from Basil Bradshaw)
We need him to bat at No 5 ( not higher for now)
Hope has been a stand out since the U 19 days . In his final year as the Captain of the Bdos okaying as the opening batsman/ week keeper he scored I think 3 hundreds .
Let us play him and guarantee him play in the next 2 Tests .
WI cricket needs vision which is seriously lacking .
Another visionary pick with be the left arm orthodox / unorthodox spinner Akeal Hossein .
In reply to Yadi
Alzari just took 3 wickets in the 2nd innings. Why would you drop him?
In reply to Yadi
Please justify the above and discuss the fact that in 2020 and 2021, Chase has scored 314 runs in 21 completed innings at an average of 14.95 and in those 11 test matches has taken 20 wickets at 43.85 apiece while having an economy rate of 3.46 runs per over.
You want to pick a man who is averaging less than 15 with the bat and taking less than 2 wickets per test.
GO AHEAD, MAKE MY DAY!!!!!!

This thread is so interesting.
Yardi, bro you was always a thinking poster, what's wrong?
Did you listened to the praise Ian Bishop gave to Joseph on the fifth day of the test?
Camos, stick to watching Curry goat cricket, that what your response tells me.
Star, it either we keep Permaul, because he got wickets in a previous test, or they is a spinner who has been performing.
Massy, can you tell the last match, especially red ball cricket, that Hope has not failed.
I would like to see Mayers in the team, that someone who the coach can work with, I am not sure if a spinner is ready to replace Permaul, on such a short notice.
In reply to Dukes
Ian Bishop said anybody can go on the internet and look up stats, but selectors require more than just stats.
Some of you would drop Kohli based on recent?current form...but would that be smart?
In reply to imusic
Yadi is getting slower with age.
I watched an interview with my boy and Ian Bishop, I was so glad to hear him say, he been putting hours with his PERSONAL batting coach in Barbados.
In reply to FuzzyWuzzy
The playbook is when you have no response, attack the poster.
PITIFUL
In reply to Dukes
I am replacing a spin bowler with
the same spinner who took 8 wickets
against England - in the Caribbean -
to win us a Test match.

Using that logic
Wouldn't it be even better to replace a fast bowler with one who took 13 wickets in the Caribbean to win us a test match?
In reply to Dukes
who is the fast bowler Mali Paul.
In reply to imusic
long standing anti Aljo I guess. I don't think he is going anywhere though. 5 for 144 from 44 overs in the match, but at 3.36 per over? why drop him?
In reply to Yadi
Yardi,
Joseph had a good 2nd innings bowl.
He was bowling fast and well.
He also took the most wickets for Wondies in the game.
Joseph seems to have recovered from his back injury.
His speed is around 90mph consistently.
He was finally bowling a good line and length,
after a horrid 1st innings.
He should perform well in Barbados.
They will most likely play they same team.
The only possible change is Brooks
His replacement will be Mayers or Reifer
Like I said, I do not see any changes after 1 test.
In reply to TanteMerle
It is hard to make changes in these Covid times, two regional matches and a touring match is no way to select an International squad.
We have players who FC stats are below 30, that's 15 at the international level, that's why I shake my head after the postings after every match.
In reply to TanteMerle
Merle, any replacement, mine, , will B for Reifer for Mayers. Riefer can put his head down and bat if the situation calls for it.
If we are going to go with stats, we play Darren Bravo because of his average. The problem with that is, we, in all fairness, should only be choosing players that have played recently in the 4 day competition and are match ready. My team is Reifer in for Brooks. He can bowl and deserves a chance since he scored a century in the warmup match. Time for Reifer's nephew to show the selectors that he is the right choice.
In reply to Windiesfan78
Brooks deserve more opportunities, at least a half of that given to Hope.
In reply to camos
Brooks is nearing 34 years old bro
When yuh age is almost 10 points higher than your batting average yuh have a problem
In reply to camos
Deserve based on what exactly?
In reply to Massy
Massy its time to get over the dream of Hope becoming a great WI batsman, he has demonstrated nothing spectacular except for one series in England. Like many WI batsmen, full of talent and potential but somehow never make it over the hump to become one of the consistent performers or great ones. I like Hope and I think he has the goods but somehow test cricket batting has eluded him, after 92 innings, he only has a 25.0 batting average to show for it.
Well, he still has some time to turn it all around but might need a stint in county cricket as you suggested.
