33.1
Broad to Jadeja, FOUR, easily one of the shots of the day so far! Broad overcooks this one and Jadeja responds with an effortless straight bat shot, closed the bat face just at the last moment to ease it back past the bowler. No chance for mid-on
33.3
Broad to Jadeja, 3 runs, a touch too full again, and a bit too straight from Broad, not the perfect timing this time from Jadeja but he manages to wrist it wide of mid-on
34.1
Anderson to Jadeja, FOUR, cracking shot!
34.3
Anderson to Pant, 3 runs, too straight again and Pant puts it away with a neat flick through mid-wicket. Desperate chase from Potts who slides and hauls the ball back just in time. Saves a run

Broad to Jadeja, FOUR, creamed! On the fuller side once more, enticing the drive and Jadeja leans into a pleasant-looking off-drive, beats mid-off to his right and Stokes ain't chasing this down
36.5
Jack Leach to Pant, SIX, smashed straight down the ground! The Leach experiment has begun on expected lines with runs bleeding. Pant takes on the loop offered, charges down and tonks it downtown. Straight as an arrow, comfortably over the ropes
36.4
Jack Leach to Pant, FOUR, and the cat-and-mouse continues! Leach is forced to drag the length back and Pant is ready for it, sitting back and pulling powerfully past the diving backward square leg fielder
36.3
Jack Leach to Pant, FOUR, and Pant finally makes a move! On the cards really with mid-off up. Steps out and drills the drive straight back past the bowler. Hit hard and in the gap

41.4
Stokes to Pant, 3 runs, to deep backward point
42.5
Jack Leach to Pant, FOUR, gets to fifty with a sublime shot! Fractionally short from Leach and it's been whipped away off the back foot. Wasn't all that wrong with the line, just good use of the crease by Pant and he beat deep square leg to his right comfortably. Another typical counterpunch knock this, and it's come when India desperately needed a saviour. Typical Pant in Tests, no?

Matty Potts to Pant, FOUR, he continues to leak runs against Pant. Half volley on the pads and Pant is not missing out, he brings the bottom hand into play and whips it dismissively through mid-wicket. 2000 Test runs up for Pant
IND 211/5 (51) CRR: 4.14
50.6
Matty Potts to Jadeja, leg byes, FOUR, Potts has lost the plot in the last couple of overs. Strays down leg and though Jadeja does not connect with the glance, there's a big deflection off the pad to get it past Billings and down to fine leg
that is what Dessie wants from us. Positive fightback. But he has to realise that this is built on confidence and you can only get confidence by getting some time in the middle first. Chicken and egg situation

Anderson to Pant, FOUR, wow! The sheer audacity of Pant is something to marvel at. He runs down the pitch and gets nowhere close to the back of a length delivery, but still goes through with the slap and hits it straight back over Jimmy, one bounce and over the ropes
52.1
Matty Potts to Jadeja, FOUR, streaky! Full delivery outside off, Jadeja saw the length and went for the drive, away from the body and the outside edge flies over the vacant gully region. No one at third man to stop tha
56.2
Jack Leach to Pant, FOUR, it was just a matter of time. Pant runs down the wicket, gets to the pitch of the ball and whips it flat to cow corner, just bounced inside the rope. So much power generated behind that
56.3
Jack Leach to Pant, FOUR, Jack Leach to Pant, FOUR, what nervous 90s asks Pant! He's flat on the ground but the ball is behind the rope. Once more uses his feet, gets close and lofts it straight back over Leach.

TON TO PANT
57.1
Broad to Pant, 2 runs, hundred for Pant. Is this his best knock? Mind you, he has played some match-winning knocks in his brief career already. Also, the fastest hundred by an Indian wicket-keeper. He takes off his helmet and waves his bat around. The entire Indian team are on their feet applauding. Jadeja too walks up to embrace him. Short ball angled in from round the wicket,

Root to Pant, out Caught by Crawley!! England have bought Pant out here. They really should have turned to Root much earlier, who's done exactly what part-timers are meant to do with these massive partnerships and with batsman like Rishabh -- played to his ego. It's floated wide, outside off, almost forcing him to smash it out of the park. But he doesn't quite get to the pitch of it this time, swinging big and outside-edging it to slip. Nevertheless, this has been one crazy assault. In terms of audacity, box-office, and the sheer impact on match results, cricketing history will struggle to find a competitor to this 2021-22 version of Rishabh Pant ..\\

Stokes to Thakur, out Caught by Billings!! Well, well. Thakur falls off the extra ball, thanks to Stokes' relentless overstepping, and this never ending over. It's a sharp bouncer that does the job, climbing in and getting big on Shardul takes his eyes off the ball as he looks to evade. But the ball follows him in, takes the glove from in front of the face, and lobs towards the keeper, who dives forward and grabs.

Siraj to Matty Potts, out Caught by Shreyas Iyer!! Matty Potts is the last man out. Shreyas Iyer reckons he has caught it. The soft signal by umpire Aleem Dar is also out. He had fingers underneath before the ball popped out of his hands as he completed it on the second attempt holding on to his chest. The third umpire is satisfied looking at the replays and Matty Potts has to walk back to the pavilion. Was a back of a length delivery outside off and the batter poked at it, as the ball flew to the man at second slip. Taken on the second attempt and that's the end of England's innings.

How did this come about?
Summer last year, India were leading the Poms 2-1 after four Tests in England, when Covid started to strike down the Indians. The irresponsible way in which the UK has dealt, and are still dealing, with coronavirus, led to the Indians understandably abandoning the tour.
The compromise was that the Indians came back this summer to play the fifth and final Test.

Look, I am not thrilled the former slave-masters won. But India played badly. I will maintain that Root and Bairstow partnership was a good one, but not great and these are two ordinary batters.
India did not bowl well, I saw about 3 excellent balls all innings- Bumrah is greatly over-rated and the rest of their line up with the exception of Shami is club level standard.
