ST JOHN’S, Antigua – The Cricket West Indies (CWI) Senior Men’s Selection Panel today announced the squads for the West Indies “A” Team series against Bangladesh “A” Team to be played at the Daren Sammy Cricket Ground in Saint Lucia from 4 to 20 August. The two teams will play two four-day first-class matches followed by three 50-over matches.
Joshua Da Silva, the wicket-keeper/batter, will lead the team in both formats, with Andre Coley as the Head Coach. The squads feature several players with international experience, as well as others who have graduated from the CWI Rising Stars U19 and CWI Emerging Players teams.
Speaking ahead of the series, Lead Selector the Most Hon. Dr Desmond Haynes said: “We stated from very early that we would look to give the opportunities to players and broaden the pool. The ‘A Team’ programme is a very good thing for West Indies cricket and CWI must be complimented for ensuring that we have these matches back up and running and arranging these games in Saint Lucia.”

Thats commendable from CWI. But, why not include Hetmyer and Pooran and some the other 1st team guys that need more international exposure and experience to enhance and refined their skills. Unless, there are conflicting schedules with the senior team.

I agree some players need to play red ball cricket . Players like Shai Hope, Hetty and Pooran and Brandon King should have been in this A team .
Happy to see Teddy Bishop in this team .

i think that we have to conclude that the selectors and now concentrating on bench strength. In a way it makes sense if your first call players are likely to be jetting away at any moment to play in professional leagues. We are seeing the benefit of bench strength in this current Indian tour (from the Indian team that is!!!)

I see that CWI is grooming DaSilva for the captaincy..
Hope he does not suffer the same fate as Robin Bynoe and Stephen Camacho.

Thats a GREAT question. Niall Smith also seems to have fizzled out as well.

Robin Bynoe was never in a leadership position with WI, he played 1 game at 19 years in India, another 1 or 2 at 29 years old.
he was a very good opener but was never given a fair run. on the other hand, Camacho was given a leadership role in WI cricket.

Match playing in Jamaica with only one Jamaican? Then CWI expect crowd support in a country with dying interest in cricket???

What you need to do is to research what the late Sir Clyde Walcott had to say on this matter before opining on it.

I think Walcott was making a point about racism in WI cricket and it wasn't any serious analysis about who was being groomed for captaincy. He said what he did because Bynoe was white at a time when the captaincy was usually given to white men.
