Are you originally from the area ? Treasure Beach was one of my haunts back in the early eighties.

I also had a very good friend from Southfield - she died back in 2004. Imagine that her mum is still alive. I have two good friends from Treasure Beach.

Some of the words used by them, such as barbacoa ("barbecue"), hamaca ("hammock"), kanoa ("canoe"), tabaco ("tobacco"), yuca, batata ("sweet potato"), and juracán ("hurricane"), have been incorporated into Spanish and English.

I was so surprised to learn (some 30+ years ago) that the Barbecue was a Jamaican 'invention'. Saw the story featured in a Canadian produced documentary.

nitro is confused about his origin.

First, he was from the swamplands of the Georges Plain in Westmoreland, now he is from Southside in St. Elizabeth.

Born is different from lived. My pops was from Georges Plain. I lived in Westmoreland for about 15 years...well I am back but in the Capital of Casual.
