It's fabulous

What hit me on Sunday was the reality that Bev is now in her 80s and clearly had a mild stroke.

As a kid I met her at a JBC outdoor broadcast at Westgate Plaza in Montego Bay. She was there with Jeff Dixon.

Did I say that I was awestruck? Fell in love immediately.

Similar story here... Fair at Black River 1968 and I headed there with my Polaroid Land instant camera to make some quick money. JBC had sent Uriel Aldridge and Bev to cover it and, of course, I made my way close up to gawk and wish. lol lol (Didn't catch her there when I joined JBC but saw her several times on visit.)

On the day the great Tosh and Free-I met their tragic demise I was sitting with a sistren in KFC on Hope Road near Liguanea when the news broke…the sistren was a med student so we rushed up to UHWI just as the ambulances were bringing in the victims…I was able to gain access to witness the whole thing…sad, sad day - 9/11/1987….

I was visiting the Yard in 87 when that episode unfolded.

My in-laws knew Peter well, so it really was a sad period.

I recall growing up in the country when we couldn't wait for JD to come on in the evenings.

Hmmm, your use of 'evenings' there is in the Yardie context. big grin  School used to let out at 3:30 and me woulda bex if nutten keep we up; I wanted to get to my 6-transister radio to chune in Platter Parade on RJR with "your pal, Rad!" Yes, Radcliffe Butler was my favourite DJ, and only when me neva like a chune dat me woulda switch to Jeff Dixon on JBC. Those were JD's pre-Free-I days, of course. Great rivalry/competition back then between both stations with their respective hosts for the afternoon listeners.

The media and Laborite propaganda brought down the Manley regime down without any doubt!

Moreover, the PNP center right was also not committed to the cause!

Now, the Laborites pulling from Manley's playbook while the PNP spinning around like a headless chicken!

Who financed dem.

Brerzerk 2022-08-20 18:23:13

I will repeat this many times until I die. 'Before the night of the eventide fire an M16, AR15, or any other semi-automatic rifles (except dem ole JDF Browning)had ever before fired in JA. The start of terrorism-grabbing and throwing back old, blind, destitute women back into the fire from whence they came. It was may more than financing propaganda.

Chrissy 2022-08-20 18:29:32

In reply to Brerzerk
Yep - it was more than financing it. It was sheer terror.

HumbleCalf 2022-08-20 22:29:43

This was great. Enjoyed watching all 4 parts.

My take is:
1. The woman is brilliant. Brilliance at times is the ability to take simple concepts and really bring them to life for all to see. For example when she says, a cent is not just a cent increase because for the mother who has 4 children, that's 4 cents increase.
2. I like her reflection on life when she asks, "what's the point", "does this make sense"
3. Love her honesty

Now a question for all you nice and decent people, you have NOTHING to say about her infidelity and her home wrecker behavior?
And for all ah you who were admiring her back in the day, she is now ready to play...if unnu tool still working.

Ewart 2022-08-20 23:34:19

In reply to FanAttick

Plenty thanks Fan! I could not get up. I watched this woman articulate her life with the two men she married and saw her strain to hold back tears.

It will be very helpful to me if I ever write another book on Jamaica.

I understand the sentiment.

However there are 2 things to consider:
1. The other party's feelings (lets say do unto others as you would like do unto you).
2. Decency. Being a home wrecker lacks decency.
In the lady's case, number 1 does not apply since it sounds as if she may have mentioned to Joshua that she was out.

HumbleCalf 2022-08-21 00:34:36
