A difficult second round against Kontaveit up next.

Ewart 2022-08-30 11:19:49

In reply to mikesiva

Yes. But.......

She shows she has shaken off the rust of her previous game. She is moving well. Her first serve is back. And you could not mistake the sparkle in her eyes when she won.

I think the will is there and she wants to go the whole tournament.

We'll see..

Good win Caroline Garcia. She dominated Coco tonight.

Kay 2022-09-07 01:00:59

That's how you control and own the baseline. She is even a step or two in on Coco's first serve too

hotarobin 2022-09-07 11:23:11

Kyrgious lost to Khachanov and the house is silent..I thought Nick was going to take it further..

Khachanov showed a lot of promise when he came on the scene a few years back and beat Joka, I believe in a Masters tournament, but then he kinda went away.

He reminds me of Berrettini and like Berrettini, I don't think that he is consistent enough..was hoping for Nick to prove me wrong and go deep..

Chrissy 2022-09-07 14:20:35

In reply to hotarobin
Nick should have won - had the 3rd set on his racquet- needs to keep his head although he has come a long way re anger management.

FuzzyWuzzy 2022-09-07 14:27:52

In reply to Chrissy

I went to sleep so I didn't see the whole match, but wasn't Nick suffering with an injury to his left leg/calf/knee? Mac was suggesting that playing doubles in between his singles matches was a mistake. I wanted him to go the distance.

Chrissy 2022-09-07 14:56:22

In reply to FuzzyWuzzy
The knee was a problem early and he had treatment but he was playing very well. Blew a few breaks or he would have won.
Khach surprised me - played very well and kept his head. Was good tennis from both of them.

StumpCam 2022-09-08 12:02:32

I always see Sinner’s name deep into competition but never watched him play!
This guy has some skills! The next Gen has arrived!

Kay 2022-09-08 13:52:34

Sinner always seems unfazed when things are not going his way and just focus on the next point.....

Chrissy 2022-09-08 23:41:57

Kay 2022-09-09 22:24:36

Big match coming up soon .... smile

hotarobin 2022-09-09 22:45:47

what is special about Casper Ruud?? I have not seen much of this guy but from the little I have seen he doesn't seem special yet he is ranked #5 and he finds a way to get results..I just watched him close out on Karen and the one thing I can say is that he has a very strong return game which is KEY to success at this level and I would argue one of the most significant "must haves".

Other than that he looks like any other good player..I really have to start watching this guy more..

hotarobin 2022-09-10 00:01:53

Tiafoe vs Alcaraz this should be interesting..

hotarobin 2022-09-10 00:03:27

Tiafoe seems to be getting impatient in this first set..

hotarobin 2022-09-10 00:44:59

..but he manages to win the tie-breaker and take the first set.

Chrissy 2022-09-10 01:08:06

Rudd is solid without being spectacular

hotarobin 2022-09-10 02:10:50

Tiafoe is being completely outplayed.. Alcaraz is potentially better than Federer, Joka and Nadal..in the making.

hotarobin 2022-09-10 03:00:30

Alcaraz has the mental strength of a super human!! This kid is beyond his years!!

Chrissy 2022-09-10 03:13:08

There will be. 5th set lol

Kay 2022-09-10 04:02:12

This kid got some heart. That is almost 14 hours now for his last 3 matches ...

hotarobin 2022-09-10 04:06:42

..this kid!! This is one of the best matches I have ever watched!

Ewart 2022-09-10 16:12:07

Best match I have ever seen! Without question.

And the crowd was treated to some amazing displays of dexterity and power. They loved every moment.

//

hotarobin 2022-09-10 16:36:46

In reply to Ewart

wow big statement that..for me the others I can recall that ranked up there: Nadal and Verdasco had some great battles...Murray beat Joka in an Epic major final, both were ready to drop..Federer defeated Nadal in another great final to lift the trophy down under..Joka wrestled the title from Federer in the last Wimbledon final where they faced off...many many great matches indeed..

Chrissy 2022-09-10 22:29:13

Ons lost - stewwwwwwwwwwwps

hotarobin 2022-09-10 23:10:36

yeah I am no fan of the Polish girl..would have been good to see Tunisia win a major..

Kay 2022-09-11 03:05:42

But she is #1 by some distance and would take a lot of catching up to displace her. With the US open points she will double her closest rival

Think how mad you'll be if Swiatek - the first Pole to win a Grand Slam singles title - wins 25 of them. The dangers of living vicariously.

JahJah 2022-09-11 11:17:39

In reply to Ewart

aye it's your view..was just acknowledging that it was a significant statement lol lol lol

I much enjoyed it too! not sure what to expect of the final..Ruud is deceptively effective and there is no buzz about him..

hotarobin 2022-09-11 13:49:13

In reply to KTom

I said that I am no fan..how exactly does that translate to me being mad at her for winning? confused confused

hotarobin 2022-09-11 20:25:48

This Alcaraz kid is a real beast..got this Ruud guy under pressure in the first game..Alcaraz almost broke him.

hotarobin 2022-09-11 20:29:29

..now Ruud has a chance to break early..Ruud trying to say there is a reason I made it this far.

Chrissy 2022-09-11 20:33:20

In reply to hotarobin
Ruud is a nervous wreck - go Carlos!
First break to Carlos

hotarobin 2022-09-11 20:36:37

In reply to Chrissy

I am thinking that it takes something special to beat this kid and Ruud is and extremely good but not special player.

hotarobin 2022-09-11 20:41:31

..the biggest challenge for Alcaraz is over confidence or getting bored playing Ruud.

hotarobin 2022-09-11 20:46:00

Ruud is staying around though..

hotarobin 2022-09-11 21:36:56

Ruud broke in the second and its up 4-2..

hotarobin 2022-09-11 21:42:51

Ruud is up 5-2 in the second..sometimes it can be a challenge playing a tres ordinary player..his level has dropped tremendously..

Chrissy 2022-09-11 21:50:18

In reply to hotarobin
1-1
Leh we go Carlos!

hotarobin 2022-09-11 22:11:34

Alcaraz is struggling to step down to Ruud's level

hotarobin 2022-09-11 22:13:20

This is a very lackluster final..

Chrissy 2022-09-11 23:02:31

In reply to hotarobin
You een serious

Finish it off in four Carlos and become the youngest #1 ever

lol lol lol

hotarobin 2022-09-11 23:19:13

In reply to Chrissy

..meaning that the level is not as high as some of the prior matches.

Alcaraz is struggling to step down rather than Ruud forcing him to step up..

..plus Ruud just boring as hell!

lol lol lol

hotarobin 2022-09-11 23:41:09

In reply to Chrissy

We did say that this kid would be #1!!

In reply to Chrissy

Boring

hotarobin 2022-09-11 23:43:48

Thus far this kid has the best of Federer and Joka..I don't see much of Nadal in him but it's still early days still..

FuzzyWuzzy 2022-09-11 23:49:51

In reply to hotarobin

What nonsense you talking? Ruud is playing well

Chrissy 2022-09-12 00:17:52

In reply to FuzzyWuzzy
Agree Ruud played better than I expected.
The thing is Carlos is already better than most of the younger guys

Chrissy 2022-09-12 00:18:19

In reply to hotarobin
Yes we did

imusic 2022-09-12 00:49:47

What’s truly fukced up for the next Gen players is that with Novax not in this tournament, and Nadal aging and injured, a number of them felt they legitimately had a chance

Medvedev
Ruud
Sinner
Rublev
Berrettini
Tiafoe (late on)

All felt they had a legit chance of winning a grand slam.

Now they have to contend with Carlos and a motivated Kyrgios?

Dawg nyam all a dem supper.

No vax eh done yet. Carlos he’s starting. Inevitable that Kyrgios will win one soon.

Enough to have Zverev reconsidering coming back.

Alcaraz had raised the physicality bar on the tour…..and everybody else has to catch up or perish.

hotarobin 2022-09-12 01:53:05

In reply to FuzzyWuzzy

you said earlier that Ruud gets the job done without looking spectacular or something to that effect..I agreed with you. Ruud is consistent and persistent but he is very ordinary..the match was always on Alcaraz racket and Ruud can feel good that he actually won his first ever set against the kid.. I look at Ruud and see a replica of David Ferrer tbh..an exquisite also-ran..

if all ya cann see that Alcaraz game level dropped to probably the lowest of the tournament then all ya blind..

hotarobin 2022-09-12 01:56:21

In reply to imusic

Inevitable that Kyrgios will win one soon.
I doubt it..he is on the right track and surprised the heck outta me but still has a long ways to go mentally

imusic 2022-09-12 04:19:29

I’m watching the Alcaraz vs Tiafoe semi

Great match. But does not match the quality of tennis displayed in the Alcaraz vs Sinner match IMO

Chrissy 2022-09-12 12:30:44

In reply to hotarobin

and Ruud can feel good that he actually won his first ever set against the kid..
