In reply to Kay Coco move on --- her opponent can make some noise in the future. She is coming back from a serious injury during which time she enrolled in college. I think she has talent
Sisipas out
Great start to the two weeks for me ....
In reply to Kay
Serena wins her first round match.
A difficult second round against Kontaveit up next.
In reply to mikesiva
Yes. But.......
She shows she has shaken off the rust of her previous game. She is moving well. Her first serve is back. And you could not mistake the sparkle in her eyes when she won.
I think the will is there and she wants to go the whole tournament.
We'll see..

Gwan Rafa,
Leh me see if I can stay awake fi Naomi now
In reply to Chrissy
Win yes, but he shouldn't have to play 4 sets against #198 ranked this early in the tournament. The man is 36 now....
#75 ranked Wang just took care of #3 Sakkari.
#5 Jabeur goes through ...

Keep an eye on this 17 year old Czech kid Linda Fruhvirtová coming up against Muguruza later today.
She looks very talented ...
In reply to Kay
You were saying what, again??? Not clear!
Gwan Rafa - hope yuh nose is OK today.
Tiafoe through as well
Andy M gawn home - Berrettini in four
Coco won the 1st set against Keys.
Coco destroys Maddie in two
a great career comes to and end..
In reply to hotarobin
She will be back
Australian Open and French Open next year
Coco makes the quarters in two = good win
In reply to Chrissy
She has been playing very well.
//
In reply to Ewart
Carlos and Sinner meet again
Gwan Ons -big up di Continent
Good win Caroline Garcia. She dominated Coco tonight.
That's how you control and own the baseline. She is even a step or two in on Coco's first serve too
Kyrgious lost to Khachanov and the house is silent..I thought Nick was going to take it further..
Khachanov showed a lot of promise when he came on the scene a few years back and beat Joka, I believe in a Masters tournament, but then he kinda went away.
He reminds me of Berrettini and like Berrettini, I don't think that he is consistent enough..was hoping for Nick to prove me wrong and go deep..
In reply to hotarobin
Nick should have won - had the 3rd set on his racquet- needs to keep his head although he has come a long way re anger management.
In reply to Chrissy
I went to sleep so I didn't see the whole match, but wasn't Nick suffering with an injury to his left leg/calf/knee? Mac was suggesting that playing doubles in between his singles matches was a mistake. I wanted him to go the distance.
In reply to FuzzyWuzzy
The knee was a problem early and he had treatment but he was playing very well. Blew a few breaks or he would have won.
Khach surprised me - played very well and kept his head. Was good tennis from both of them.
In reply to hotarobin
Wimbledon final followed by US Open quarter final in the same year is not going deep?
In reply to imusic
1st set to Frances, hes playing well
In reply to Chrissy
Tiafoe into the semis.
Iga through to semis ...
Madness on steroids ...
Nick
Carlos Alcaraz is UNREAL
Spare a thought for Jannik Sinner
What a match!!
Big 3 who?
In reply to imusic
I always see Sinners name deep into competition but never watched him play!
This guy has some skills! The next Gen has arrived!
Sinner always seems unfazed when things are not going his way and just focus on the next point.....
Ons tore through Set 1 - 6-1
I'm looking for two Champions from Africa.
Ons gets di break 3-1
In reply to Larr Pullo
Was thinking the same thing earlier - Ons used to beat up Garcia at the lower level big time.
4-1
6-1; 6-3
Rooting for Ons
Would be first Arab/African woman to win major
Big match coming up soon ....
what is special about Casper Ruud?? I have not seen much of this guy but from the little I have seen he doesn't seem special yet he is ranked #5 and he finds a way to get results..I just watched him close out on Karen and the one thing I can say is that he has a very strong return game which is KEY to success at this level and I would argue one of the most significant "must haves".
Other than that he looks like any other good player..I really have to start watching this guy more..
Tiafoe vs Alcaraz this should be interesting..
Tiafoe seems to be getting impatient in this first set..
..but he manages to win the tie-breaker and take the first set.
In reply to hotarobin
Carlos gets the break now
Frances is trouble now
This kid is in the zone!!
Big big trouble in da house ...
Frances got to find that second wind now ...
In reply to Kay
Carlos in four
In reply to Chrissy
Yeah ... looking fourish
In reply to hotarobin
Rudd is solid without being spectacular
Tiafoe is being completely outplayed.. Alcaraz is potentially better than Federer, Joka and Nadal..in the making.
Alcaraz has the mental strength of a super human!! This kid is beyond his years!!
There will be. 5th set
This kid got some heart. That is almost 14 hours now for his last 3 matches ...
..this kid!! This is one of the best matches I have ever watched!
In reply to Kay
Being 19 and so talented helps
Best match I have ever seen! Without question.
And the crowd was treated to some amazing displays of dexterity and power. They loved every moment.
//
In reply to Ewart
wow big statement that..for me the others I can recall that ranked up there: Nadal and Verdasco had some great battles...Murray beat Joka in an Epic major final, both were ready to drop..Federer defeated Nadal in another great final to lift the trophy down under..Joka wrestled the title from Federer in the last Wimbledon final where they faced off...many many great matches indeed..
Ons lost - stewwwwwwwwwwwps
In reply to Chrissy
yeah I am no fan of the Polish girl..would have been good to see Tunisia win a major..
In reply to hotarobin
But she is #1 by some distance and would take a lot of catching up to displace her. With the US open points she will double her closest rival
In reply to hotarobin
Think how mad you'll be if Swiatek - the first Pole to win a Grand Slam singles title - wins 25 of them. The dangers of living vicariously.
In reply to KKKTom
Think of how mad you'll be if she doesn't reach 15, much less 25.
In reply to hotarobin
Could you accept "Most enjoyable"?
//
In reply to Ewart
aye it's your view..was just acknowledging that it was a significant statement
I much enjoyed it too! not sure what to expect of the final..Ruud is deceptively effective and there is no buzz about him..
In reply to KTom
I said that I am no fan..how exactly does that translate to me being mad at her for winning?
This Alcaraz kid is a real beast..got this Ruud guy under pressure in the first game..Alcaraz almost broke him.
..now Ruud has a chance to break early..Ruud trying to say there is a reason I made it this far.
In reply to hotarobin
Ruud is a nervous wreck - go Carlos!
First break to Carlos
In reply to Chrissy
I am thinking that it takes something special to beat this kid and Ruud is and extremely good but not special player.
..the biggest challenge for Alcaraz is over confidence or getting bored playing Ruud.
Ruud is staying around though..
Ruud broke in the second and its up 4-2..
Ruud is up 5-2 in the second..sometimes it can be a challenge playing a tres ordinary player..his level has dropped tremendously..
In reply to hotarobin
1-1
Leh we go Carlos!
Alcaraz is struggling to step down to Ruud's level
This is a very lackluster final..
In reply to hotarobin
You een serious
Finish it off in four Carlos and become the youngest #1 ever
In reply to Chrissy
..meaning that the level is not as high as some of the prior matches.
Alcaraz is struggling to step down rather than Ruud forcing him to step up..
..plus Ruud just boring as hell!
In reply to Chrissy
We did say that this kid would be #1!!
In reply to Chrissy
Boring
Thus far this kid has the best of Federer and Joka..I don't see much of Nadal in him but it's still early days still..
In reply to hotarobin
What nonsense you talking? Ruud is playing well
In reply to FuzzyWuzzy
Agree Ruud played better than I expected.
The thing is Carlos is already better than most of the younger guys
In reply to hotarobin
Yes we did
Whats truly fukced up for the next Gen players is that with Novax not in this tournament, and Nadal aging and injured, a number of them felt they legitimately had a chance
Medvedev
Ruud
Sinner
Rublev
Berrettini
Tiafoe (late on)
All felt they had a legit chance of winning a grand slam.
Now they have to contend with Carlos and a motivated Kyrgios?
Dawg nyam all a dem supper.
No vax eh done yet. Carlos hes starting. Inevitable that Kyrgios will win one soon.
Enough to have Zverev reconsidering coming back.
Alcaraz had raised the physicality bar on the tour
..and everybody else has to catch up or perish.
In reply to FuzzyWuzzy
you said earlier that Ruud gets the job done without looking spectacular or something to that effect..I agreed with you. Ruud is consistent and persistent but he is very ordinary..the match was always on Alcaraz racket and Ruud can feel good that he actually won his first ever set against the kid.. I look at Ruud and see a replica of David Ferrer tbh..an exquisite also-ran..
if all ya cann see that Alcaraz game level dropped to probably the lowest of the tournament then all ya blind..
In reply to imusic
Im watching the Alcaraz vs Tiafoe semi
Great match. But does not match the quality of tennis displayed in the Alcaraz vs Sinner match IMO
In reply to hotarobin
In reply to imusic
Sinner will also win slams
In reply to Chrissy
Maybe
